Tactile Immersion - General Discussion - Hardware & Software

Has anyone had any luck running transducers in 4 corners chassis mode?
I pulled the trigger on 4 Scorpion PT Actuators and debating if it's worth setting up the 4 BK Advances in chassis mode that I'm not using. The SRS software for PT actuators has haptic feedback settings.
This forum has made me change my mind so many times on transducers...

It might work only on very light rigs. Transducers are just not strong enough to shake popular heavy 80/20 contraptions like P1X. Solution is to mount them to isolated from the rest of the chassis seat and pedal plate.

I'm diving into tactile and have been combing these threads for some while now. One thing I'm looking for is specific opinions on which software to use. From what I glean from these threads the big two are SimVibe and SimHub.

Which do you prefer and why?

I had simvibe when I first got tactile, thats when it was released about 2012.

I find simhub much better and it also helps that I use it for other things as well, e.g. overlays, my wind sim.

Simhub you can do more things, more complex configurations. It doesnt cost a lot, I would just start there.

All the early posts in this thread (which are ancient) seem to be SimVibe focused. As the thread progressed Mr Latte and his more learned disciples seem to be leaning towards SimHub.

I have ordered the rumble motors kit for brake and accelerator by Sim 3D. Between Chip shortage, supply crunch, truck convoys and blocking borders, i'm hoping to see them some time in 2022.
You'll be very happy with that motors! I have it since some days (the 2021 V2 version with the mount for my T-LCM) and they're far better than the "classic" motors from a Xbox controller.

I'm looking forward to them. It's about the only thing I miss from the old Fanatec pedals.

I too ordered the same a couple weeks ago. Felt it would be nice to clearly distinguish them from my transducer under the pedal deck. I have the V3 pedals but those motors are never supported and I’d rather Simhub do it anyway on these stronger ones.

"never supported" directly by the games, you mean? Because, from what I know, they are supported in simhub (I don't have a V3 indeed, so I can't test it...) Anyway, the Sim-3d motor are certainly WAY much more powerful.

True, if using a USB connection, then I think Simhub and other software will recognize and support, but not with the RJ connection.

Since I do rarely but occasionally play on console I still use the RJ base connection for direct support. It’s rare to find games that natively give life to those motors, some do so at such a low power. I guess there is Fanalab on pc but I don’t use it.

Which effects are best suited to pedal mounted transducers?
I am running basically all effects like rpm, gear and road on the pedal plate with lower volumes, but what stands out is wheelslip. I can feel slip much better on my feet than on my seat and this really gives a benefit apart from immersion.

If you are talking strictly about shakers strapped to your actual pedal plates, i would say slip only.

Anyone have any experience comparing a decent tactile set up (LFE, TST, Dayton daex32ep-4...) to the D-Box Gen 3 haptic?
I'm almost certain a finely tuned set up using Simhub would probably be more detailed, just wonder how it would compare. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any places to experience the D-Box first hand in the Toronto area.

interest to know also.
what is cheaper? D-box with haptic or excellent motion plus full tactile DIY?

I can't say John, but unless you were going for one of the cheaper refurbished dbox units which seem to cost a lot less than new, I would def be going with nice tactile + something like PT actuators.

As an all in one solution it seems that dbox tactile is not bad. Even if you didnt want all the mucking around in simhub trying to get the 'ultimate' tactile I would imagine that using default simhub effects would match dbox anyhow.

I have never seen a comparison of dbox tactile with something like lfs/tst/exciters.

I've heard two accounts.

1. Guy with D-Box, hunted down every rattle and loose part on his rig so that the D-Box tactile could shake his whole rig and not create rattles etc.. He had a rudimentary tactile system before and liked the D-Box tactile and never added a dedicated tactile system back to his system

2. Guy with D-Box didn't like how the tactile worked and is setting up a full tactile system to complement it. I should hear the results soon.

Guy 1 didn't want to deal with the additional complexity of a tactile system, didn't like the aesthetic of mounting transducers and was happy with what he got from D-Box. Guy 2 didn't like D-Box tactile and was willing to rework his rig to accommodate both systems.

Sounds to me like there are pros and cons depending on your priorities like most other rig related choices.

I hear you Metalnwood I myself have 3 LFE's, 1 TST 429, 4 Dayton exciters, 2 Advances and am looking to add motion. I've been leaning towards 6DOF PT A, but am now hearing Surge and sway / yaw are a bit over rated. I currently have a GS-5 and GBelt, and am just not sure if the DBox is all that when it comes to tactile. If that's the case, then i would lean towards PTA if not DBox presents an interesting alternative.

Decisions ... decisions..... In some strange way, I know what the best path for me might be, just trying to flush out every possible outcome to justify such a costly upgrade. No matter how often i try to venture out, it always seems like PTA with full tactile via Simhub is the best solution given the current state of motion actuators. Call out to Jeff Weaver @SRS for evening the playing field.
