Is VR dead?

I get that you are happy with your Crystal.

I already consider my Aero which is lighter than a Crystal an issue and my priorities are different from yours. You already know my feelings about Pimax as a company and the fact I consider that kitchen sink design an abomination, so the BSB looks like heaven to me.

I think there is a very good chance that the BSB will be a slam dunk in terms of my preferring it and sticking with it long term until smaller options are available.

We'll have to see if I feel the same way in two months.

Amen to that, hands on impressions beats some speculative expectations at any time of the day.
And so far we've seen only Crystal impressions from two users in this thread. Impressions of 3D printed BSB mock do not count, sorry. :D

Agree that's why I said: "extremely subjective" about what visuals are good enough and if it's worth it to trade visuals for it's form factor. To me personally the visuals can never be good enough until we reach real life visuals and we are decades away from that(if ever), so in my opinion the BSB is already a HMD from the past because the downgrade on the visuals is pretty significant compared to the Crystal: less resolution, way less brightness, less smooth(75Hz), less FoV, glare, poly material lenses instead of glass, small edge distortion I understood from reviews too.

A human head weights around 5 kilos for an average human, adding one kilo to that or 130 grams doesn't make such a big difference at all. It's a exaggeration to call the Crystal a "kitchen sink" for that reason, I am not build like Arnold Schwarzenegger but the weight of the Crystal is with my headshape an absolute non issue. Even after many hours of driving, my neck/head etc. has zero issues and the wobbling is not an issue too. I think that the vacum/sweat/used material story of the BSB is a bigger issue then the weight of the Crystal. Yes if your headshape doesn't fit the Crystal then it's surely an huge/unsolvable issue, but if it fits okay, I honestly don't see an issue for sim racers.

Of course we all have different priorities and I would even take the BSB over the Aero because of its probably/hopefully: better stereo overlap, better colors, better vertical FoV I assume, better blacks, hopefully less edge distortion, no motion blur, less chromatic aberration, less colour shift. I would trade in the nits/resolution for that probably.

But with your mindset I do believe that the BSB is going to work out for you! Because you have the form factor/size/weight of the HMD as high as possible on your HMD priority list. And of course, the BSB is unbeatable with that.

With G2 it was the cable that bothered the heck out of me, not the headset weight or comfort.
Until we have proper wireless PCVR HMDs, the weight of the headset itself would not matter much as you have two pounds cable lugging along.

As with e.g. bicycle wheel, mass added around the outside
more affects rotational inertia than added nearer center of rotation.
More than that the fact that a heavier object stays in motion and breaks free of static friction easier. I've heard many people complain about their 8KX or even Index moving around on them.

That is an issue and it does mess with immersion.

FYI, in terms of a Reverb G2 comparison with the BSB. In case there is confusion, he is saying the BSB looks much better.

Just saw that the DSP processing that Pimax added to make the DMAS headphones sound good also added about .5 seconds of latency which can be reproduced easily.

However if you run a separate USB-C DAC/amp out of the Crystal's plug, that delay goes away.

Pimax is supposed to be aware of this issue.

Interesting that VR Flight Sim Guy just did a flight video in the Aero after spending time in the BSB and Crystal and he said the Aero display looked letter boxed and small in comparison to both after not using the Aero for a while. Interesting. He also still called the Aero the most comfortable headset he has ever worn after saying that was his initial impression with the BSB, but after wearing it for a long period of time, he feels the Aero is still more comfortable.

He's talking about only 20 minutes comfortable after that the BSB is already getting less comfortable and in 2 hours clammy. And that's with flight sims, the most relaxing vr experience out there..

So sim racing doesn't sound to be even an option with the BSB if I must believe him, since sim racing is WAY more intense then flight simming.

The Aero also felt letterboxed to me because of the stereo overlap mainly, but also because of the vertical FoV. So yes the Crystal is still the way to go(If you don't have an special headshape and/or hate towards the company..).

Time will tell about the long term comfort and how I feel about it. Will claimed he was in for 3 hours and lost track of time. So it seems it will depend. I've heard some people talk about extended time in the BSB including sweaty titles like Beat Saber. There seems to be be some variability in how people feel about it.

Why is he taking the most comfortable made to your face headset and pursuing this??
He mentioned the comfort thing in his review a week or more back but are there more compromises than he let on if this monstrosity is better?
