That availability date is about as credible as weather forecasts a year in advance.
There was a time when M$ could persuade vendors that VR/MRmore expensive crap.
Was it specifically MS and not the whole VR industry? There was a time when M$ could persuade vendors that VR/MR
would be the next big mass market craze that would also drive serious PC volumes.
How this that work out?
Except for Oculus....Looks like VR industry works in reverse, instead of making better and cheaper headsets we are getting more expensive crap.
When people start seeing that they are not users but product of the company when they signing up?Except for Oculus....
They are subsidizing their headset and basically own the stand alone market now that they will milk for revenue.
The Dark Side is winning that war right now.
Meanwhile, Lynx has a kickstarter for true mixed reality headset with color passthroughmilk for revenue.
Would you use Facebook as an example to help prove or disprove that people are willing to give up cheap or free services despite knowing their data is being sold. When people start seeing that they are not users but product of the company when they signing up?
I don't use it, period, without "would".Would you use Facebook as an example to help prove or disprove that people are willing to give up cheap or free services despite knowing their data is being sold.
G2 v2 that was just announced can be actually a good option to buy some time (year or two) before we see (and will be able to buy) something from Valve.
Not going to shill for G2, it has its issues like atrocious facemask (that apparently is fixed in v2), but resolution jump was staggering enough to pack and sell Odyssey+ the same day I put G2 on. Plus it's what, $500?I don't think its worth it. Its just a resolution bump over the odyssey+ and that isn't enough of an improvement. I want wigig/wifi 6E for wireless and decent hand controllers that track well so I can get my room scale back combined with better lenses and more resolution and ideally foveated rendering from eye tracking so it both looks better and runs better!
Maybe for now, but VR is still a new market and Facebook is trying their damndest to be at the top of the pile. There's no guarantee it will work long term.Except for Oculus....

Oculus, however, got a refresh of its own following Thursday’s event, as CTO Andrew Bosworth announced Meta was phasing out the Oculus branding. The Oculus Quest product line will become the Meta Quest line, and the Oculus App will be called the Meta Quest App. Those changes will begin to take effect in early 2022, Bosworth said.
Computer says no. Mine does at least, its saying I'm lucky it can run the G2.Sounds like we are finally heading to the promised land if that is 12K per eye.

I'm sure I could get it working but I wouldn't like to buy a device that I can only half use due to my PC. Maybe if it just has more clarity by default because of the features you mention there might be some temptation. So there are ways to make this work with existing computers and still have some major improvements.
