Is VR dead?

That plus RTX 5080Ti (or equivalent); good to anticipate.
I'm just happy to see that level of clarity with a non-fresnel lens available.

If you compare this with StarVR, it's less expensive, higher resolution and still has fantastic optics.
What you are missing is the wide FOV.

Still if they added wide FOV, there would be no way to drive it until until next year's 40 series release.

Ugh!
Had any of you seen this yet?

Note: These are NOT based on leaks. They are just predictions.

Then again if the only thing you need an ultrafast GPU for is to drive 3 x 8K monitors or a $2,000 VR headset that few can afford than the pricing may be appropriate considering they are supposed to be about 200% faster than what we have now in the 80, 80Ti, 90 space.

Still SteamVR stations only tracking, for me personally it's a deal breaker, but must be great for room scale gamers.

It is likely that enthusiast high end headsets will continue to primarily support Steam VR and base stations.

"My expectations" have been that my next headset would continue to use my base stations and Index hand controllers, but I was expecting my next bare headset to be in the $500 - $750 range. With current inflation maybe $750 to $1000.

I don't find this headset compelling at a $2,000 price point. For just the headset, they would need to check ALL my boxes before I'd consider ordering one and they don't.

I'm still betting that whatever Valve releases next will check all my boxes. and be something I get more excited about. I could be wrong, but the Index is so good that I think there is a good chance that their next headset will come from them and keep me happy for a few more years.

Interesting that they use 3:1 DSS compression to get this resolution over a small wire and they mentioned foveated rendering.

They also allow you to reduce the resolution and claim that even though this supports super sampling that you can drop the resolution a lot and it will still look better than anything else out there.

That analysis did seem to point to a critical issue that needs to be resolved before this headset could be recommended.

FYI, I watch a chunk of the live Varjo stream (pretty boring), they said this is still aimed at professional users first.

Pretty sure it is visually lossless.
And in my experience works splendidly on Samsung G9, you need RTX card though. I haven't seen any visual degradation when it's on, except with DSC I can use 240hz at 10bit color depth.

That's what the Varjo people were saying.

I would think of it like MP3 music file compression. A uncompressed FLAC file is MUCH larger than an MP3 file, but it's very hard to hear any difference that you would have a Good or Bad feeling about past 320 kbps or so with a good stereo system.

Mathematically it won't come out identically, but if you are dealing with an image going by at 90 fps, it doesn't have to be mathematically perfect for you not to notice a difference.

$2k is a lot once it's converted over this part of the world.

Its enough to put me off I have to say. Thats also not to say its an unfair price for what it is at this point of time. I have spent $2k here and there.... and there... for a number of sim racing things but I know they will last me many years.

VR still is early days and I think I will be wanting to replace it before I get the value. So will def be looking at the other options as they appear.

2000$ for me means 3000$( taxes high here plus shipping plus 2 light stations).
I really would invested 3K for it but 2 things let me down
1- FOV seems even smaller than the Quest2.
2- No inside outside tracking essential for motion simulator.
Let’s wait what Valve has to offer.. for now I’m super happy with my G2 reverb.
