Off pace but quite eventful races. Rage quit on the 2nd round, didn't like the insta-moaning in the chat for a collision where I don't feel guilty. I suffered a nasty little contact in the 1st lap chicane that left me facing backwards, Hamilton 2008 like, but don't feel the need to blame someone.
I'd love somebody to upload the replays to review the races.
But thanks everyone I fought yesterday, despite no grip it was pleasant racing overall.
About speed limit in pitlane, I thought I should have got a penalty in the 2nd R. pit-stop because I overshot a little bit, but maybe it's not working, maybe it's set @ 100 km/h, maybe I was focusing on a wrong line. Dunno.
Why no grip?! Grip was pretty good?!

I was short on practice, didn't find enough time to finish the setup. So I had 90kpa pressure, min camber and some other areas with minimum default values... Maybe it's a clue.
Caster was set on maximum tho. God, the chicane...

It was a nice evening. For my first race on RaceDepartment I didn't expect such a result. Race 1 was really interesting and I hope the next will be too. Unfortunately in race 2 in was caught in the incident between Tamàs and Andrew. As Matt said I don't use auto-clutch and I didn't react in time so the engine stalled. Race ended on turn one for me. See you at Mills.

I had a very hard day at the office.
In race 1 lap 1 I was stuck behind a clump of stationary cars at entry to T10 the "chicane" in sector 2.
I waited for it to clear and a previously spun car drove over my nose rejoining the track causing damage and requiring a pit stop.
Stopped lap 1 for wing and body repairs and earned a drive thru for speeding so stopped again lap 2 and watched the field lap me.
Rejoined 1 lap down. Still had some apparently unrepairable damage but had a bit of a race with Calum.
Finally spun and damaged rear wing and car was not safe plus 1 lap down so retired it.

Race 2 I was cruising around safely and gaining places as cars had issues. I was in P10 and a car was gradually gaining on me.
Lo and behold it was the same one that drove over my nose in race 1.
I was nervous not to be damaged again.
Then the contact. I was on the racing line in sector 3 exiting T15 (2nd to last )and was hit from the outside and spun off the track.

I'm afraid I was annoyed that I was taken out twice by the same car and typed "thanks".
I do have the video , have seen it and will happily provide it. It was not clear cut as to whose "bad" it was, The cars were side by side just maybe, just possibly a slightly risky move in a tricky spot.

No absolutes as to blame, if I had side mirrors on as well as rear mirror I may have seen the move coming. I was defending the apex, and just simply didnt expect a move there on corner exit on the outside.
When added to the race 1 contact I overreacted at the time. I will talk to the driver involved.

Positives: It was great to see a good grid and a high standard.
Negatives: My pace was very poor and my setup that I worked so hard on was rubbish.
I have much work to do. Oh well a second a round will get me there.

Thankyou for the race

I was honestly not expecting to be that far up the order.
I had Matt S's setup (won both races), but I really struggled in a very diffrent setup on the only race run I did more than one week ago.
With Matt's new setup I had a good qualy (4 tenth of his pole time), but did a lot of mistakes in the race and still managed P6 (with one full spin).
At least in race one the gap between P5 and the rest was massive (around 25 seconds).
So there are pretty much two classes in the current field.

I had some ups and downs :),

Race 1 after q I was surprised to be so far up I think 4th ? anyway a few laps I and I got massive vibration on wheel so pushed ffb reset button and it threw me to the left into wall and lost fwing. After pitting I was well down and then proceeded to make lots of mistakes lol. I think I ended up 13th.
Race 2 I got to start 3rd with reverse grid and was me trying to pass Kevin it was quite difficult with some small lag his car disappeared once and was shifting position on track. I was able to get passed outside t1 after a few attempts but was good racing.
I then just kept to track Didn't fight David Matt and Dino as they were much faster race pace anyway and managed to hold onto 5th.
Over all enjoyable races just need to work on race pace quite a bit I cant seem to brake without lock ups also.

Grats to Matt ,Dino and David I think they made both podiums if not grats to who ever it was :) and to everyone who finished.

TY Rd and Ian for the event cyas next race's .

Interesting event yesterday

Q: Did not really ever get a good lap together in all sectors. Most times turn1 was already the problem as I for some reason had huge problems with this turn for the whole event. Disappointed as the gap was small and should have been doable.

R1: After a decent start, my problems with braking in t1 continued, did also use up a bit too much front-tires this way which made it impossible to get pressure on Matt throughout the race. Also had 2 moments in the chicane where I just barely kept it on track.

Instead of pressuring Matt I had to defend from Arnaud who was clearly faster in s1, but with a bit of luck I could atleast defend p2, which is a great result for a not so great drive :)

R2: When the startcrash with Andrew and the others happened, they all shot in front of my car, I could halfway avoid it but my frontwing clipped somebody and suffered some damage, but that obviously could have been much worse that's for sure :D

First couple of laps was hard to get accustomed to the reduced front-downforce especially when the tires were still colder due to the more cautious driving in the pack.
Also had some contact with David B. in the chicane, sorry for that I did not notice that you were actually there. It seems the new collision model can work good, as our cars did nothing silly after we touched with our wheels :)

After a while I found a way to make the car work ok with the damage too by braking a bit earlier everywhere and could almost do the same times then usually. Even had a bit more tires left due to that in the end, but when I reached Tamas at the end the race was unfortunatly over already. Would have really loved to go on a couple of laps more ;)

-> q: 2nd / r1: 2nd / r2: 4th

Did not really get the performance that the car has on the track, but it was still fun and the results were good too and also David won a race which is great ;)

See you guys next time
btw I love this 3 week-rhythm, much less stress if you run other leagues parallel to this

Fun event. I wish the turnout had been a bit better. I was hopeful that we'd see a nearly full grid since the signups were there. Seems to always turn out that way with rF2 events.

Fuji isn't one of my favorite tracks. The first part of the lap is fine but everything from the chicane on is tedious and, in this car, quite difficult. But it isn't the fun kind of difficult, with it being a series of 2nd gear corners connected by short straights where you barely take 3rd before braking again. Unfortunately it's in acceleration out of slow-speed corners where this car struggles the most.

The big question going into the event was whether to use the high or medium downforce package, but in the end it was an easy decision. I was a few tenths quicker on the high package I developed, but there's really only one good place to pass here and that's down the front straight. Medium downforce gave just that little bit of extra acceleration needed to make passing or defending there easier, and I knew that would be important in R2.

Q: I was still experimenting with setup changes for a lot of the Q session but I got close to my personal best on medium downforce early in the session, which was good enough for pole. I had a lap late in the session that was more than a tenth quicker at the end of sector 2 but I couldn't put the final sector together as quickly as before, so that was a little disappointing.

R1: Not the best start as I got too much wheelspin on the dirty side of the track but it was good enough to hold onto the lead out of turn 1. Despite leading from start to finish it was never easy. This car changes quite a bit over the course of a 45 minute race, or at least the tires do. About halfway through they become fairly greasy, and by the end I was struggling with rear grip just as expected. I was a bit unlucky in that there seemed to be a lot of single car incidents in front of me which on several occasions cost me the gap I had built to Dino. That gap was never more than about 5 seconds, and usually around 2-2.5, so there was no letting up and no room for even small errors. I was intrigued to see Arnaud pressing Dino toward the end of the race. I hadn't noticed where Arnaud had been in qualifying but clearly in race trim he had something working.

R2: My approach going in was just to avoid any incidents and try to be patient. The easiest thing in this second race if you're starting mid-pack is to get caught up in something, especially with other faster cars trying to move through the field. Dino and I tussled wheel-to-wheel a bit in the opening laps but it looked like he had suffered damage from a few collisions and wasn't able to put up as much of a fight as I expected. From there on I just stayed patient moving and tried to use any speed advantage I had on the front straight to overtake. David G on the other hand had a blistering opening lap, going from 12th to 9th and moving forward quickly after that. I lost too much time coming through to give him any trouble but still managed to finish just about 5 seconds back and capture fastest lap points as well.

A good start for me. I don't feel like there were any more points I could have captured given the R2 inverted grid format, which I think is fun btw. Congrats again to Dino and Arnaud for their podium in R1, and to David G for the R2 win as well as Tamas in P3!

Thanks again to RD and Ian for running this series. Hope to see everyone again at Mills!

Just a few thoughts on the car since there's always talk about how hard it is to get power down with it. At this track the car is capable of about 3g's of lateral acceleration in turns 2 and 3, where you're at a pretty high speed. Almost everywhere else, especially in sector 3, it struggles to reach 2g's.

Meanwhile it's capable of fully 1g of longitudinal acceleration in 2nd gear. It isn't hard to see how that leads to a challenge when trying to accelerate out of 2nd gear corners. You need to take almost half of the lateral load off of the car before you can apply full throttle. I say almost because you can achieve something closer to 2.3g's of combined lat/long force. But it still means that you end up feeling like you need to have the wheel almost straight before you can apply any significant amount of power.

On the one hand that's what you often hear about cars like this, that you need to have them almost straight before going to full throttle. It's why the technique used in real cars that have such high power-to-weight ratios tends to be to square off (late apex) the corners where the car is traction limited. You also hear drivers say they have to treat the throttle like there's an egg under it, which is how this car feels. The numbers also work out when I look at it in Motec.

All that being said, the feel of it doesn't necessarily seem right to me. It does feel "too hard" to sense when the car is about to lose grip at the rear when turning and applying power. I own a C63, which is very under-tired and traction limited (451hp, 600NM torque but quite heavy of course) so I'm well acquainted with the feel of it. With the FR3.5 it's very hard to detect that you're approaching breakaway because the rear feels so stiff no matter what you do to the setup. The rear just doesn't feel compliant enough.

However :), I do know that the tires used on F1 cars, and these are probably very similar, are extremely stiff. The compounds in the tread block are soft, yes, but the carcass apparently has to be very stiff to withstand the high vertical loads from downforce and the ensuing high lateral loads. So the feeling of stiffness and sudden breakaway could be accurate.

In any case it is very difficult. When you're up into medium speed corners the car is much more enjoyable.

I want to say sorry to Andrew, i just saw in the replay how badly ended for you when we touched each other in R2, i didn t try to be aggressive or force you to change line, just tried to follow the white line which led me towards you :(
you have always been very helpful and kind to me tamas. you are an honest racer. on the replay, i realised what you thought. i am not very lucky with start incidents tbh lol in a horrible turn of events, i knocked into someone else...and slid off...the damage was limited...until that someone else came spinning back towards me and screwed my car lol so i pitted.after pitting i was one minute down from the next car and still had front right suspension damage. fortunately, everyone else killed themselves or ran out of fuel late on...so 9th place in race 2 felt good. 7th in race 1 was also a good result...after i had to park up and wait for some cars to untangle themselves early on lol

i wish you would have tried my setup too. you liked the last one :) well done tho..you were a reserve and with lots of practise, you would have been right up there

I will keep this short as very busy.
First, massive thanks to Ian!
qualifying: girlfriend returned from Wales just as quali started. i then got locked out of server until 5 minutes to go. got nervous and flustered, to only manage a 1.29.6...whcih was 7 tenths of my pb.. very disappointing. was impressed with the pace generally tho and @Calum McLure. i would have had to get my pb to beat that time. very impressive.

race 1: in the race, i tried to stay out of trouble, especially after the standard of driving in the clio series...i managed to do so but had to park the car at turn 5? (right hander) whilst waiting for cars to untangle...this cost time and a nervous few moments waiting to be smashed in the back! i got going again about 12 seconds down from calum (?) nicky de fre? i can't remmeber. i was extremely consistent and really on it. i felt my driving was really good. eventually consistency was rewarded as calum spun, april finally went off as i got close and nicky...i managed to get a good final turn exit on last lap..to get the pass on nicky..so glad i chose the medium downforce package and set my wings to the optimum level! any less and it wouldn't have worked! very respectful racing. p7 was great. one more lap and i'm sure frederic would have let e have p6 for the indicvidual standings...so p1, p6 and p7 for TXL was great.
@Matt Sentell being our first race winner for TXL!

race 2: the incident with tamas and the white line lol...spun me off. i managed to avoid everyone except arnaud...who then came spinning back at me.. it was the 2nd collision that caused the damage. i hobbled back to pits, got fixed up and was 1 minute 3 seconds behind an old xbox league rival. however, i also noticed i had right front suspension damage so drove with steering wheel at 30 degrees in a straight line! the gap to my former rival was coming down rapidly so that at the half way point, i was only 34 seconds behind. was looking tasty...the battle never happened as he and others fell away and before long i found myself in 11th. i was closing on april but not fast enought. the gap was down to about 6 seconds. david g passed me and i managed to keep pace (just about) then matt came near. i was so busy thinking about where to let my teammate pass and also pushing to close to april, that i spun and really screwed my car..it was ok as the next person was 4 laps down. but i was really delighted when on the last lap, i overtook ian in the pits and someone who had run out of fuel - to get 9th place. it really felt like a victory.

i had to be a prost rather than a senna last night...or shoudl i say an alonso rather than a hamilton. the top guys are in a league of their own but when you score points inspite of issues beyond your control, and get rewarded for just keeping going...it really does make it all fell worthwhile.

mills should be interesting. not easy to overtake and i expect collisions...but please, leave me out of it!

finally, i was really please with the balance i had in my car. i think i'm quite good at getting the car dialled in for my driving. then again, it doesn't matter how much time you spend on the car... a fast driver with a good setup will always beat a rubbish driver with an Outstanding setup. technique is crucial and the proof is in the pudding. well done podium guys!

I had been practising a lot for this race, ever since I signed up for the league, so I had a great expectations for the league. I was a bit worried about the event beforehand, due to late info and watching the clio crashfests, but I had a great time last night.

Quali: My quali was great. I had managed 1:27,5 a few days ago. I was quickest in the first part of the session and managing 1:27,8. I was sadly not capable of getting a better lap even that I could go about three tenths in the second sector. Dino took second place late in the session, with me in P3.

Race 1: Got off the line good, but had to back off into T1 because I was right in between them, Frederic also got by after that. Coming out of the final corner I was in his slipstream and got by him in T1. After that I spent about half the race behind Dino and couldn't get by, he was much quicker than me in the third sector so I couldn't get close enough on the main straight. Arnaud came seemingly out of nowhere and caught us. A few laps later I spun twice within one lap and I lost one more position to Tamas. I was stuck behind him for five laps or so before someone exited the pits and caused an incident in T1 that I could take advantage of. I was struggling in the penultimate corner for the remaining laps. Finished P4.

Race 2: Started twelfth, got a good start and went through traffic like a boss. I got the lead on lap ten or so, passing and taking advantage of incidents, but I bumped some wheels as well during those laps. I did a small mistake losing about 4sec but I could remain in the lead. Then it was just to focus on to not make mistakes.

Congratulations to Matt, Dino, Arnaud and Tamas for great drives and well-deserved podiums. Looking forward to mills =)

I can never remember what all the Mills configs are so I had to load it up and see. Default set, green track, cold tires, it feels like more grip than we had at the best of times at Fuji. So I'd recommend for anyone who was put off by the Fuji experience to load this up and try it. It's probably in part the better mix of corner speeds but I don't think that's all of it. It just feels like more grip generally.

Much more fun as a result, and the layout is a lot more fun as well.

I spent the days before the race with searching an excuse how to miss it, i didn t enjoy a single second driving the car, but couldn t come up with anything that would convince myself :p
I spent half of Sunday to practice and setup the car, but i was way off the pace, so i searched the internet and found something, but for another track. Yet i was almost a sec faster after a few laps, but still a sec behind Matts time i saw earlier this week.
On the Q i was able to shave off a few more tenths, and there was maybe a little more, but I set out the 2nd half of the Q, i didn t wanna get into the way of faster cars without any experiance of driving in traffic with the car, and also had no idea how my tires gonna hold on. I was satisfied i felt i can pull out a top10 result, if i can keep the car on the track.
I went into the race to just keep it together, avoid fighting and constantly monitoring tyre wear. It worked well and as cars spun out infront of me i got up into 4th at one point of R1, David retake it but i felt good taking 5th,
R2 started with an unfortunate accident, I agree with Matt i shouldn t follow the line by rule, and even if i should i dont think i do it if i see a car beside me. I did it because i felt i can. Unlike in the replay where i can see Andrew all the time beside me and im driving slowly into him, when the contact happened i was surprised i was hit by somebody, i wasn t aware of what happened i just had a scary sec to catch the car. I can t explain it, but its wierd i couldn t avoid a car that is visible all the time. Maybe i was too much focused on T1 and not to brake too late.
After that this race went even better and i was surprised how late Matt caught me, i could even keep him behind for a little more if i don t do 2 little mistakes, but that was enough for him. Then i saw Dino is coming and i had no hopes i can keep him behind till i looked at the lap counter. Three laps to go. Just crossed the line infront of him
This car takes 100%+ effort just to keep it on track with a reasonable pace, after all my negative preparation im very happy and surprised with 5th and 3rd i felt like i would won after R2 :D

Congrats to Matt, Dino, David, and Arnoud you all had exceptional race pace!

Maybe its wierd if im saying it after my start incident (just discount me :whistling:), but the driving standard was well above my expectations after the Clio experience. A nice surprise.

@Matt Sentell Sounds right. But if I press m brake/throttle pedal with 25% input, I nearly get 100% output. Pedal travel doesn't look messed up in rF1 so I am not sure if the potentiometers are going...

Thus I don't think it's the car's behaviour that leads to my problems(3s off pace can't be real).

@Xavier de Carvalho Ever heard of my contactspray?

In the end, I might have to try Martin's programme to re-calibrate my wheel. But with it apparently working normally in rF1, I have no clue what the hell is wrong. It's a shame, as the graphic&stuff is top and racig with you guys is fun.

Not that much fun when I am battling my own car rather than my rival's because something's f*cked up.

I noticed that there was no player directory in my game and the settings folder was just lurking around in the UserData folder.

I re-grouped it, created a \player directoy and put the settings folder into it.

But even after creating a path and putting in my skin, it still doesn't show up. I went into single player, went to tuning and pressed the reload button for the skin, but didn't appear.

Should it appear there? Or do I need to go to the server first?

...If there are highlights, I'd rather want to look good when I look bad. / ha ha joke

Maybe somebody wants to check if the skin is okay: http://www.speedyshare.com/X4mFT/Scuderia-Basilea.rar

3s off is not a problem with the wrong setup and maybe less practice time. Can you make a screenshot of the pedal inputs at half or 25% throttle in the settings menu?
According to your explenation they should show 90 or 100%. If you install the MoTEC plugin and activate data recording and just drive along with slowly and gradualy feeding in the power, you have to see a jump of throttle position in MoTec.
