You'd think a V8 supercar would oversteer in favor of understeer, but mine won't. I'm doing it wrong.

If yo have constant oversteer than 2 things are possible.

1. your setup is junk
2. your foot is waaaaaay to heavy on the throttle coming off a corner.

I am now managing to run mid high 8,s-9's at Singapore and only get oversteer is I have 12+ laps on the tires or I am too heavy on throttle coming off certain curbs in corners. :dance2:

Remember to attach your hands and throttle foot. When you start to apply throttle you unwind the wheel same time. coming out of left hander I start to press throttle and hands move accordingly to the right. so that when you get to WOT, yo are pretty darn close to neutral wheel.

foot goes down, hands start to unwind all at once. We will be totally assuming you are on the line and solidly hitting the apex area.

I used to tell students at racing school/ lapping days this. if the car is powerful you use your feet on the pedals as if one of your balls was between your foot and the pedal. don't make yourself wince! :laugh2::clap:

I just reread your post sean and see you are understeering. You are probably coming into the corner to fast and too heavy on the brake at the same time.

IT takes real touch to trailbrake in a simulation. try getting all your braking done in a straight line then ease off the brrake pedal as you roll into and through the corner. Pick up a neutral throttle around the apex and read above post about how to drive off from there. neutral throttle is on the throttle but simply maintaining current speed until you are able to strat accelerating off the corner.

They need to be steered using the throttle. If you get the gear selection correct, you can use the power to cause oversteer, but it requires care because these cars can oversteer rapidly under high power in a turn. If you enter the turn too fast and have to back off, then they understeer a lot.
Have you tried testing the different diff ratios?

I try and avoid touching setups as I have no idea what I'm doing and will only muck it up. I've tried reading the guides and walk throughs for setups but to no avail.

Where is the diff ratio selector in the setup menu?

Set up work is just tough to weed through when you first get going in the game or racing in general. It adds soooo muc to the learning curve.

IN order to really experiment w/ set ups you have to be able to drive the track consistently lap after lap so you can get real feedback when you make a change.

The default set ups are not the best to say the least. you can try to plug in someone elses set up and its bound to help some. IN the end though, set up is designed for a users driving style too so it won't likely be perfect for you.

there appears to be not setups for this car in the GTRE setups forum. try mine out if I can attach it to the post. its a basic one that got me in the 9's at Singapore w/ 33 laps f fuel onboard. Try reducing it to 17 laps and see if it helps at all.

Thanks, Eric! I'll give it a try!
Another problem I have is consistency. I've never put two laps together with similar times(usually 1 second off at least, if I dont crash). I don't have an eye for racing :rotfl: I just have fun doing it.

Where is the diff ratio selector in the setup menu?

It is not in the setup menu for these cars. It's all explained in the readme document with the mod download but in brief:

V8 Supercars (in real series) race with fixed diffs, which must be chosen to suit the specific track. GTRE doesn't allow for this in the setup menu, so the modders found a way to manage it. In your download, you should have got a folder named UserData\CarSetups. In there is a folder named _Output. It contains a number of setup files based on 4 separate diff ratios for each car (Holden and Ford). Use these files as a base for your adjustment, or just use one as is.
Copy the files into your Track Setup's (eg. Singapore) and you can then select them in-game. The number (eg. 3.15, 3.25, 3.5, etc, designates the diff ratio. Find the one that suits the track.

Hope that helps.

Eric, there is a section in the setup's forum for Mods, and it includes a couple of V8's.

http://forum.racedepartment.com/mod-car-setups/

We need to start putting a few in there, so if you could post yours there it would be very helpful.
I'll start to put some of mine in there too, as I develop them. But, as you say, everyone likes their setups to suit their driving style, but at least it might help people to choose the best diff setting as a base. So, if people put their setups in that forum, they should make a note in the description area to advise which diff setting they used.
