Has anyone seen a nice set up for a three monitor display? From what I have seen unless you spend the big bucks, none of the cockpits come with a decent way to mount 1 or 3 monitors.

What do you guys think of the home made cockpits constructed out of the T-Slot materials?

Bob

I priced in building a cool racing setup. By the time you buy a bucket seat and all the other materials it will be the same thing as purchasing the Playseat (not counting the time and/or frustration u will encounter).

Just as a follow up. I looked at the gameracer elite link, notice how there are no wires connecting the wheel to the pedals to the monitor etc. Just routing the wires on one of these set-ups would be a trick. You obviously would want to snag the wiring every time you went in and out of the seat.

I don't need a Corbeau or anything. Checker Auto Parts out here sells decent racing seats for around $100, or you can get a padded plastic seat(What I would do) for like $30. Materials are cheap. I just need the blueprints :p

Bob, I have the wiring pretty well hidden wrapped up around the seat. I never snag awire:)

Sorry for my late reply on the subject but i wanted to think it over before i said anything.
When i read this thread i was initially surprised by the proposal.
However i can understand the motivation as given by some of you.

But i do think the North American forum is an important place for new members to get an idea of what they can expect @ RD.
To me it is obvious that since the NA forum seperated from the PAR team forum there has been an increase in activity and more importantly an increase in members.
If i am not mistaken the decision to split it up was made because it wasn't clear to new members that there even was a NA community.
Imo merging the NA forum with the main GTR-E forum will bring that back.
The majority of the GTR-E forum is european and i fear that new NA members might feel a bit overwhelmed and lost in the huge number of threads in there.

For me the NA forum has become a bit of a social club inside RD where people share all kinds of stuff.
Also retaining the NA forum would make it easier for people to remain involved in scheduling events, giving feedback etc.
My biggest fear is that the threads that are active in the NA forum will get harder to follow once they are merged with the GTR-E forum.

Now for something that i don't understand; there are some people that say the NA forum is hard to find. In the same time there is talk about reanimating the PAR forum...
All nice and well but how does this solve the issue of 'hard' to find forums?
Both the NA forum and the PAR forum are accessible with one click from the main page.
At least the NA forum is clear on what it is...PAR is still a racing team and new members don't go there ( unless they are real curious).

Let me conclude with saying that for me personally the merging of the NA forum with the GTR-E forums doesn't sound as such a good idea and i will sorely miss this place if it all gets merged.

Regards.

When I first joined I browsed the GTR-E forums and the PAR forums and was hesitant to join because I thought the PAR forum was the only NA forum, and the GTR-E forum was also kind of slow and lacking of any real close relationships that I could see. Once I was directed to the blooming NA forum I found my home :)

Hello, new here, need some help finding my way around. seems like great community with serious clean racing.

Hey Ryan,

Welcome on board, there is a little thing I wrote for another forum that you might find helpful if not just post on here or PM me with any questions:

I thought it might be helpful to give you some on navigating RaceDepartment.com and to point you to some interesting forums.

First please take a few minutes to read all the rules as well as the procedure to become a driver. All you need to know is very well documented here:
http://forum.racedepartment.com/important-information/

Executive summary:
- You have to use your full name on the forum and in game
- You have to apply to become a racing member
- Race:dance2:
- Follow all racing rules. The most important one being:
If you hit another driver and disadvantage him, we expect you stop and let the other driver regain his position on you. If this costs you many places (eg first few laps) then consider this a penalty for your driving infringement. Doing this shows respect to your fellow drivers and will encourage drivers to be more careful. Please use some care when letting the other driver regain position, do not immediately stop your car on the driving line where it can cause further accidents. Not following this rule will result in your membership of the racing club being terminated at once!
Please read the rest regarding the application process. It is rather straight forward.

Now the fun part. There is a North American forum already setup and active. As soon as Jarrod is ready I can make an official announcement welcoming you guys to the club. However, feel free to post there whenever you want. It is your forum!!

I am sure I missed some information. Either PM me or post all your questions in this thread. I will be checking it frequently.

Thanks.

It seem s that growth of this forum/family is what wil drive it forward. It can soemday be larger than it is now with bigger fields of racing action in our sanctioned events.BUt with this growth comes responsibilities and more managers needed.

I saw this happen in the Sailing club I was an officer in and it is something to be considered in the planning of the future. Eventually, some of us on the sidelines now will be asked or have to volunteer some time to club management duties.

I will say this. When I first joined RD oh so many days ago, it was a hugely intimidating site! Massive in scope and content and I was really pretty lost out there. Yves found me wandering about in the weeds and pointed to the pit area for the NA family. I am soooooo glad I am here now!

this is where I check in first. I then brave the other forums etc. and are finally getting comfortable out there enough to wander a bit further away from home. But if I get in a jam, I KNOW I can ask it in a thread in NA and get an answer pretty easily! I have tried search params in the RD avenues and come up completely dry at times! I typed in "TRack guides" in the search ebgine and got back crap.

But here in ther NA forum is a track guides thread! how come it didn't show up in my search outside NA? who knows.

And thats the point I think. The NA forum is a resource as well as a community.

I would say to postpone the move for another 30-45 days and see what happens. there have been a smaller # of positive responses than negative to make the change.

I say post a "VOTE" thread and do it democratically for now. It is the NA forum afterall.............

:eat:OK you can get this going but you gotta share some set ups..........:highfive:

Otherwise, I'll be the guy harvesting the crops w/ my splitter!

Welcome! we love to have more guys to race withand since you are a group of Easties you'l see me fairly often for sure!

lets run GT 3 class' at The Glen? yeah man that track begs for GT muscle!

I think it would be cool to have like a Baja race. Like OARR is it called?

It'd be cool to have it on something other than a circuit track.

  • Ian Landry

Hey guys...

Didn't have time to read all the topic, but with the way the community has been growing, all I can say is I fully trust whatever decision made my our admins here (Eric, Tim, Yves, Marcel, etc) to be the best for the community.

Just one favor though, as lately I haven't had much time for racing or coming to the site, could you guys PM me or send me an email if the hangout place is changed? Thanks!

Ian
