Misc True to Life AI 2013 Season 1.4

Hi, first post even though I signed up years ago haha.

Been using this mod recently, and it has vastly improved the racecraft of the AI which is great! However, the performance of the 2013 AI doesn't really seem to match up to what we've seen in real life. The Force India, Toro Rosso and Hulk's Sauber don't seem too competitive with each other, they just kind of race in their own small groups in each team. The Williams also seems to get outqualified by the Caterham's at times. The main problem I have though is with the McLaren and the Mercedes, the Merc's seem to qualify and finish races at the tail end of the top 10, with the McLaren's finishing just ahead of them. This hasn't really been the case this season, so I just thought I'd raise this, could just be me installing something a bit wrong though.

Sounds like I'm being really negative, but what you've done so far is superb, just needs a few more tweaks to be perfect! :)

Glad to hear you like it
Keep in mind three things:
#1 if you're in career mode, the cars are still being developed so some performances may have some high fluctuations due to a driver having a "bad day", as well as their development part possibly failing. The opposite can be true too.
#2 in order to recreate the random "wow factor" we see from weekend to weekend, the drivers further back in the grid have been coded with higher chances for both good and bad days, which helps to recreate that randomness. Normally every driver is coded with a 5% good/bad day chance. With my mod some drivers have up to 20% good day chances for example.
#3 even in quick races the results follow this trend. I did a quick qualifying session on normal time and never went out. This lets the game "crunch the numbers" with plenty of time to crunch. The results from the first session (using v4.0 of my mod) was this

Just wanted to say that this mod is a masterpiece. Thanks to all who have contributed! Was getting bored on career legend, games so much more rewarding now. Codies should hire you all, the db balance with the supporting files is a work of art!
Best wishes, Chris

Maybe it's because I'm doing OSQ (I do this because it seemed like if you fast forward time in the full quali sessions it all messes up), I'm getting a 2 by 2 effect pretty much every race. And the Mercedes cars never really get higher than 6th (although they do seem to be better than McLaren now). Is it just not advisable to do OSQ with this mod?

Here's some screens of it (I tried to keep Chilton as close to last as I could):

EDIT - Okay, so I've tried a few races with the "Race Only" setting and that works much better with regards to the grid order! Merc's right up there on the pace and no Noah's Ark formation, had some epic races as a result of this. :D

However, it pretty much makes career mode unplayable for me because CM didn't give us a "Race Only" option for career, which is understandable I suppose.

The 2x2 effect is odd...seems like a fluke to me. Have you by chance verified files through steam and reinstalled over a fresh install just to be sure?

Secondly, OSQ is ok to do, but you need to keep in mind that it gives everyone just one lap to get things done. So the AI is coded to make mistakes, which occurs even during qualifying. So some drivers may make a mistake and wind up way out of place. By the 2x2 effect is odd.

At any rate, what I've found during qualifying is that as long as you (the Player) have set a laptime with enough time left in the session for the game to react to it, things usually even out. The game does seem to adjust it's performance based on your performance and the car you're driving. Where it does this I can't really tell, but I know I've "caught the game out" a couple of times by accelerating time until there's 2 minutes left in the session and I go and do 1 flying lap...I wind up in pole or much higher than I should have, and then during the race I tend to get caught up as the game "corrects itself" to match my performance. It's a nice concept to base the session performance around the Player, but boy does it lead to some sporadic behavior sometimes...

Here's the two ways I usually handle qualifying sessions:
I'll go out very early and set a laptime, come back in and accelerate time to see where I fall, then go back out as necessary.

or

I'll wait in the garage with time accelerating to see what the AI does, then go out with 5-7 minutes remaining to see where I fall in the pack.

This usually leads to pretty realistic and consistent results. Just keep in mind the AI tends to bounce around a little bit more in Career mode given the extra aspect of car development coupled with the "good day/bad day" parameter in the database. Quick races use fully developed cars.

Last resort - do a file verification and reinstall your mods to be sure there's no issues.

ive installed as per instructions, but dont think its installed as i can go online and still use same profile..i moved everything over to the common folder and overwrite everything..

Not sure what to tell you...if you're using Windows 7 you can right click the F1 2012 shortcut and select "open file location". That's where you want to paste the folders & files from my mod (and any mod for that matter).

Cant for the life of me get it to work, its like its not seeing the new files..i dont need to download anything else??, im using no mods at all..

Well let's start with the basics:
Did you purchase your game through Steam?
Yes? Do a file verification through steam to be sure you're starting fresh
No? You should do so, or reinstall the game from scratch to be sure you're starting fresh.

Make sure your game is then patched to version 12

After that, install v1tek's 2013 season mod by copying and pasting the folders into your game install directory. By default, this is C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\F1 2012 or if you're on a 64bit PC it's C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\F1 2012

So open the "F1 2012" folder and paste the files and folders from v1tek's mod into there and confirm overwriting anything.
v1tek's install guide: http://www.racedepartment.com/forum/threads/f1-2013-season-mod.68460/page-7#post-1426936

Finally, in the same manner, copy and paste my files and folders into the F1 2012 folder, and confirm overwriting anything.

Sounds like if you're copying and pasting all this stuff and it's not working and you can still play online, etc...then you're not copying the files/folders properly or to the correct location.

Other than that, idk what to tell you unfortunately. It's a pretty straightforward process. You just need to know where to put the files is the biggest thing.

Best of luck

ok thanks for your help, ill probs reinstall it all, you mention installing 2013 season mod..do i need to, can i not just use your mod and thats it??

ive reinstalled the game, steam updated everything, then i applied all ure files/folders by overwriting everything, but still nothing....

Bummer...idk what else to tell you.. No one else has problems like this. You didn't install the game twice and are running the exe from the 2nd location by chance?

I'm stumped...

i made sure everything was deleted before reinstalling, i just installed the 2013 mod and 2013 true AI mod after a fresh install, the 2013 mod worked, but not the AI mod..

im going to reinstall everthing again (as the 2013 mod doesnt run smoothly anyway)..and just aim to get all the achievements..:)

Almost fell out of my chair, when coming up to the last corner in China and suddenly Raikonen was on my inside trying to pass. Sadly he clipped the post and lost his wing and both frontwheels.

This mod is making the game a blast! Thank you very much :D
