The "What Are You Working On?" Thread

If you search for ".css" in your assetto corsa installation folder you'll find plenty of files!
Yeah I have found those files but wondering where Kunos has assigned those tags

For example, this is 'ui.css' but I want to know where these tags are assigned so i can change them

1934 Auto Union Type A is coming along nicely. The most detailed model we have made yet. Going to try and nail the suspension perfectly is the next step.

Some people have been direct messaging me about timeline. So I might as well update ya'll on that. The plan is that the Dawn of Speed pack (1886 Mercedes, 1906 Itala, 1906 Renault GP, and 1907 Itala) and the 1937 Mercedes W25 Streamliner will be released by Dec 1st, 2021 . Then the 1934 GP Pack (1934 Auto Union Type A, 1934 Mercedes W25, 1934 Alfa Romeo Tipo B Monoposto, 1934 Maserati 8CM, and maybe one more....) by Jan 1st, 2022.

Can't wait for the Dawn of Speed pack!
Same here. Mad respect for the pre and inter-war content. I know I've used this line several times already, but Assetto Corsa is slowly shaping up to be what Spirit of Speed could and should have been; a detailed, believable simulation of the early days of Motorsport.

Granted, scratch-built tracks and rebuilds/conversions of existing mod circuits from older sims brought to AC quality standards are hard to come by and lagging behind the car output but baby steps.

It would help realism quite a lot if... well, any of the common prewar suspension solutions could be accurately represented in game. And we know so little about these tires... But it's a nice approximation. The models look great.
One of the biggest obstacles with data collection on these relics is that they are the epitome of old, rare and poorly-documented, meaning doing any sort of strenuous real-world testing is a massive gamble as to whether or not the original real world example will survive. I can already think of two super-limited cars that have been permanently lost after their immortalisation in a sim, even if the incident was not related to sim-related test runs. (the Mazda Furai concept and Ken Block's Group A Escort "Cossie V1")

If one could hypothetically gain some access to the Goodwood Revival I think some data on at least the modern incarnations of these cars could be gotten. They run plenty hard there. (I still want to see the Beast of Turin properly done in AC...) :)

But what I meant is that AC cannot represent designs like a solid front axle or a de Dion rear... so from the very ground up there are a lot of compromises due to fundamental limitations of the game engine. Not saying we can't get believable cars & a great experience, but I think AC leaves a lot on the table as an "ultimate" prewar racing simulator.

Working on BARC Pembrey located in Wales.

It's my first track project so everything is taking quite some time to figure out. I've already got a better track mesh after setting both inside and outside splines at an equal resolution.

Unfortunately there was no public LIDAR data for Pembrey so I've got a normal DEM that i've grid aligned in QGIS and then has been imported as a heightmap in Blender. This unfortunately will require a bit of tinkering to get a mesh that is the correct height and is smooth enough to align the splines on.

The first is doable thanks to certain buildings that are visible in the height data. The second may require some sculpting to smooth out the surfaces as you can see here it is very stepped. I'm happy for suggestions!

Have to admit, I was rather sceptical when you at first announced your plans to make these cars, kept my fingers crossed though, but haven't put my hopes up high just then.
But really stoked now with the progress you are showing. Having legit cars of this era with detailed models, nice sounds, believable physics, and above all with accuracy to the extent possible, will be an absolute blast. :):geek:

Union is out and about
took an hour before work this morning to decide it's been about 10 days i haven't worked much on it
and that it was time:

Hi. This is a 10 km section of road up the Margalla hills in Islamabad. By posting it here, I'm hoping it'll spur me into making it passable (though it is drivable). As at the moment it's nowhere near being half decent.

Here's version 0.1

Feedback welcome.

Thanks for the kind words.

It all became possible once I relocated and started my new job this last year, it gave me the extra funds to try and build something cool to go along with my small but growing YouTube channel. If the mods are successful, well I have dreams about where I could take Casual Sim Studios, one of them being an advanced sim racing game based on the Cruden professional racing game engine.... But that's all still a dream at this point.

In regard to detailed models, well they get more detailed everyday. The only downside is I see so many things I would have the team do differently for the earlier models we are finishing up.

In regard to accuracy and physics, that is my biggest goal. But I'm striving to have the handling and car feeling to be accurate above all, because with older cars I can put in what the actual suspension lengths and figures are, but it might feel like crap, so then I have to work from there to add the realistic feel. Assetto Corsa doesn't exactly provide the best game engine for vintage cars, so I am refining my process a bit everyday.

In regard to sound, well, that will be what I work on following everything else being pretty much finished. Right now CSS is open to contracting with someone experienced with sound development. Otherwise I'll be the one learning it, haha. So no promises on sound quality, but they will be custom for each car.
