Seeing that seat makes me think you are driving a pre facelift Honda Civic Type R 2001-2003 model !

Am I right ?

Guilty here!

About one year ago had the opportunity to buy the front and back seats and door cards taken from one of these Type R racing cars, http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xflka_honda-bpi-cup , pos face liftt, they were like new and were a real bargain.

So using this old one as a cockpit seat was one of the first things that cross my mind.

By your avatar, seems like you also are in the Type R fan group.

Got a couple of pictures of my setup today. The screen is a BenQ 24" LCD. The wheel is an old Logitech Driving Force for PS2, But it works just as well as any other wheel for less than 1000NOK so I don't see a reason to upgrade just yet. On the G15 LCD you have the vrisom GTR Evo applet and I have now disabled the in-car HUD and connected up a 5.1 surround system. The sub is right in front of the pedals, feels awesome to sit there, however, it looks flimsy (at best) in comparison to many of the cockpits already posted here.

I will however try to get a hold of another wheel of the same kind and take that apart to build my own, but I'm just in the planning phase right now. I do however want it to have a H-shifter and a clutch pedal. I will of course finish that off with a seat and harness at one point, but I'mma have to do with just some sketches for now.

Hehe you could describe it as that, but that would be me in my own Type R racing on Zandvoort

I found it time to start over with my Sim Setup, some changes to my gear (from Logitech to Fanatec) and some new wishes and ideas where the perfect excuse to start over

old setup:

SimDRNL-3.jpg

Logitech G25
Sparco Sprint V
Samsung Syncmaster 225BW

Not to bad, but some modifications made it less "appealing" then i wished.

New Setup:

First change was the switching of monitors, from 1x22inch and 1x19inch, to 2x 24 inch Samsung 2494HM monitors. Hdmi In was very important for me.

BuroRV.jpg

Then Forza 3 was released, which really made me want to buy an Xbox 360 and the imo only good wheel for the X360 which was the Fanatec Turbo S.

Gameroom_7.jpg

unfortunatly my G25 pedals where hardmounted to the extreme, so i couldnt use the Clubsport pedals.. YET

i fell in love with the fanatec products, so a GT3RS was soon added to the setup.

GT3TSG25.JPG

Now the real fun began. Bought an SLi-M and made a casing for it. Out of a Refrigderator case :)

slim_5.jpg

slim_8.jpg

After the Sli-M it was time to go further and make my sim as awesome as i wanted it to be.. So i ordered the Frex Sequential shifter and Handbrake. :D

The most important part of using the frex parts, was that i wanted to use them in all games, and on all consoles. The frex shifter and handbrake had to be connected to the Fanatec wheels in order for them to work on all consoles and pc. This was actually rather easy, an adapter for using the frex shifter on the standard ps2 female plug in the wheel was easily made, and the handbrake button was quite easily done by hardwiring it by soldering it to the B button of the Turbo S/GT3RS wheel.

24042.jpg

you can see me testing the handbrake with the standard sequential shifter here:

by that time i also acquired another Turbo S wheel, so i could switch the GT3RS rim, and i got myself a GT3RS steeringwheel with Turbo S functions. GT3RS wheel = Racecars, Turbo S wheel = Streetcars

GT3RSS.jpg

Designing the Sim itself was the next step, first on the pc

SIMV2P1_0.jpg

then in reallife

SIMV2P1_1.jpg

This is the sim without sidepods, with the old sim it was build as one whole, but i wanted to make it alot easier to change things and maintain my gear, so now it exists out of 4 parts (part beneath desk, sidepod left, sidepod right and the floorplate with the seat and pedals.)

placed the desk part, you can easily see the subwoofer and the ability to adjust it from the top

SIMV2P1_13.jpgp

placed desk back

SIMV2P1_16.jpg

Mounted the GT3RS Turbo S, Clubsport pedals and my Seat. Under the seat came a little gadget called "Buttkicker Gamer 2" If you look underneath the monitor you can spot the sli-m

Buttkicker.jpg

SIMV2P1_19.jpg

after that the Frex shifter/handbrake finally arrived:

testing the position of frex parts

SIMV2P1_20.jpg

and made the frex sidepod

SIMV2P1_22.jpg

You can see a large gap next to the Handbrake, this is where i want to make a button box :) For the time being however i temporarily covered the sidepod with black cardboard which doesnt look half bad actually, but when the buttonbox is placed i will finish it off nicely in black paint.

SIMV2P1_23.jpg

And this is how it is currently working

So my current setup is:

Sparco Sprint V
Samsung Syncmaster 2494HM
Fanatec Turbo S
Fanatec GT3RS "Turbo S"
Fanatec Clubsport Pedals
Frex Shift+
Frex Hbrake+
Buttkicker Gamer 2
Leo Bodnar Sli-M

Wishlist:

Buttonbox
sidepod with Fanatec 6speed h-shifter and sequentiall shifter changed as handbrake.

Everything works perfectly (except for sli-m which only works on pc) on all gaming systems (PS3/Xbox360/PC)

Hope you enjoyed the read :)

Here's mine went tripple screen a few weeks back.

new addition (saw someone else in this topic with a similar idea and remembered i had this)
Knocked up the mounting this morning so i can actually see the keys while racing. This came about after fumbling for buttons on my keyboard during fridays race.

Running the 4 screens from 2 GTS250's using softth, fourth monitor above is obviously for RTT

next job gotta pick up an old race Seat from my boss. :D then the real building begins.

Shhh Dont tell me misses

Hey fellas!

Beside this wonderful topic with ideas, is there any topic where I can post my thoughts and ask some questions regarding cockpits? I want something that works in my enviroment and therefore I would have to tell you something about it. This right here is the wrong place I guess... so?

A veritable cornucopia of shifters, top left G25, top right Thomas Superwheel sequential, bottom right Thomas 6 speed H shifter, bottom left Sim Gear SST lightning. The Wheel is a G25 with a Jegs mini Momo aftermarket bolted up. The pedals are ECCI, the Frame is a Cactus Dave custom build.

A while ago i tried to build a cockpit out of a set of old drawers (because im 15 and cant afford to make one properly), at first i tried but failed, the pedals wouldnt fit under the drawers and nowhere for gear shift.
While fixing the pedals problem by taking the piece of wood from the back on the bottom of the drawers giving more space for them to fill up i had an idea and used that piece of wood to attach the gear shifter inside and at the same height as my seat like in a real car! :D
