Sell me AMS2

Not available on PC unfortunately, but I am wondering if new Forza Motorsport coming next year is going to steal the show from AC and AMS2.
I doubt that. Forza has never attempted to be a proper sim. And I agree with JU. Numbers doesn't equal a better program. It's popular perhaps because of the physics? Easier to drive? It was last time I played it. That however, was years ago. But folks like what they like. There will never ever be a unified consensus. Nor should there be. I don't race online much because I'm in NA. It isn't easy finding leagues and proper mates to race with. And the time difference kills it for me.

I don't experience this. My AI settings change all the time because their strength varies from car to car and track to track. Having said that, I haven't touched the Nord since Forza 1. I really need to revisit that monster.
This has been my experience too. I tend to notice a bigger difference between classes rather than tracks though. A couple of weeks ago I started to make my own AI files based on the '91 F1 files Timo made to balance things out a bit https://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/f1-1991-season-custom-ai.47834/

I do suspect I'm playing a game of whack-a-mole though and it's beginning to remind me of when I was trying to get a decent offline experience in AC

Slightly back on topic; that AI file is included in the '91 F1 skin mod:
https://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/ams2-f1-1991-season.38880/updates - I definitely recommend checking this out as this was probably the turning point for me with AMS2. I'd just got myself a DD wheel and bombing around '90s Adelaide, Imola, Spa and Silverstone just brought back memories of playing Mr Crammond's first F1 game back then, but with the added bonus of fighting the wheel like a madman :D

Great read. Thanks.

Oh hey, this is off topic but the Perseids meteor shower is peaking this week end. If the skies are clear where you live go check them out..Full moon but the Perseids produce. Look to the North West and be patient, its not the 4th of July it might take 20 to even 40 mins but they come in spurts and sometimes big ones.
NORTH EAST..sry

My two cents with the AI is that you have to race them fair in a way. They seem to have problems or at least did a few months ago, i mostly play online and have actually taken the last few weeks off because ive been sick and did not want the bad feelings i was having mixing with sim racing so i just considered this the off season. Like at some corners they struggle and I just make a rule that I cant pass there or can only pass one car if it would have been realistic for me to do so. On tracks with no sharp corners, its anything goes. And of course you may have to reset the skill levels when you change tracks and cars. To get a good race, but honestly for a while i didnt play any online because the AI gave me very realistic races.

Ya, Multiplayer has to be the core game. Time trial is fun and AI is great too, but a sim racing game is judged by its Multiplayer experience. Now, I have made suggestions of a Default + option that would allow for small changes to base line setups while keeping a driver from having to have a detailed setup for every car that may pop up in Multiplayer and allow them to know win or lose that it was not because someone spammed the Copa B class and found that one tricky setup option that gives them an edge..Thats fun for league but a little much to ask an average or new player..At least allow for a shift in brake bias..Anyways, the menu is top notch, and the bugs of old seem to be gone dare i say. The community is a fair mix of newer drivers and aliens so it has something for everyone and honestly cant think of anytime I have seen people just trolling. I go hard sell on my Default+ idea, and still think its worth doing so..In all honesty, I dont really have a dog in the fight and own most sim games, if they were better I would play them but they simply are not.
Lol, what the... ????!!!!!!!!!!

I am a fan of online racing since the late 90’s. But have to say. Since NFS Porsche unleashed I did nit have this much fun racing AI as I do with AMS2 now. Set level to 105%, agression to 100, select stockcar 2022 and Laguna Sega, full grid. Start at back and try to get to the podium in 25 min races. Guaranteed fun!

I am one of the biggest fans of AMS2. But the biggest flaw of AMS2 is the multiplayer.

Once they get that on a higher level; so all bugs need to be fixed and you should be able to join a server until the race really start (now it's 2mins quali end->2-3 mins last track depending on track->2 mins before race, why, WHY?! is this not fixed after so long, it should be easy to fix), the game will be played much more.

Why do most cars continue to understeer and resist power on oversteer at all costs?

I jumped back in today and tried a few cars..... like the 90sCART cars. Laguna Seca hairpin and the following turn I cannot get the rear tires to break loose at full throttle with the wheel turned. Yikes, feels broken to me.

I just ran the Gen2 USA (is that the 90's Cart car?)around Laguna Seca and was able to break rear traction at will even in a straight line with cold tires.

After a few laps I was still instantly able to get the car sideways around corners and wheel spin on corner exit. Great fun drifting/catching the slides and the motion rig was going hard.

Full throttle with the wheel turned throws it into a spin....Not so much fun in the motion rig

i bet that is some stuff they cant even touch..I dont claim to be a programmer, but that is the way it is with PC2 so I am guessing they cant do anything about it. Ya, a million times I have wished you could join up to the race starting and just start at the back.

I think you should check your aid settings like stability and artifficial TC. What you describe is complete the opposite from what I experience and also the participants in the weekly Racing Club events. We just had some races in those cars. To much stability in the rear was not experienced by any off us. Join us in the Tuesday or Thursday racing club here at RD. You will find a nice group of fair drivers and organiseres that will set the races to challenging conditions. (This week its all about Stockcar, old and new).

Thanks. I looked in the indycar settings and there was no TC on the car to select or deselect from my memory. Is there an overriding control for tc or stability in AMS2 that impacts all cars? If so, where is that menu?

@traind

In options/gameplay settings/ authenticity
You can select driving aids to authentic/ on or off

I've been testing the GT4 class across 3 sims and really enjoying Reiza's version but I have noticed that the current tire model does understeer quit noticeably in high-speed turns.

I've also seen the same comments brought up on their forms for a few classes.
Hopefully, update 1.4 will improve it as they dial things in :)

that, and every time you leave a session it boots you back to the main homepage instead of the MP server home page.

Well, they are testing multiple things, that's what the beta branches are for, But they aren't messing with the installs of the general users base. Your game would be updating if they were adjusting files.

Personally, If I sit down for a session and something feels off, its normally due to one of my teenagers getting on the rig while I was at work and trying to do drifts....

takes me weeks to get everything in balance....

it likely is on my end. i had to reinstall everything and cant figure out how to calibrate the wheel in game. I got it ok, but it dont feel right on some cars. I really dont understand what im supposed to be doing with the calibration. turn wheel all the way one way...then 90 degrees. what? 90 dgrees from when it is neutral or from the furthest place where it is hard over. what number should it be?
