it's very different. there's several tricks you can do in real life that you can't in sim. also sim is a lot easier to drive aswell. sim guys can go a lot quicker through a turn than what they can actually at the track.

...
Looking for comparison videos of onboard video from the sim vs real-life, there are a few on youtube but mostly quite old now. I'm more interested in UK tracks really but really interested to see any.
...
Just curious. What exactly are you trying to compare? Like the one split video you posted, they will look very much alike because tracks are being modeled very well in this day and age.

The actual 'layout' of tracks in terms of width, corner radius etc. have been very good for some time but what I am particularly interesting in is how well they replicate 'known' real-life reference points.

In real-life racing you make lots of reference points, many or most of them off track as you often can see the track well in the pack when racing.

I'm also interested in how well they model track 'oddities' such as bits of camber and incline, I know i'm not going to get that from video although you can if you can see the wheel movement (i.e. formula cars).

Not specifically related but I was at Silverstone recently and at lunch there was a truck going round with what looked like some sort of revolving camera on a boom at the rear. Think it said something like 'real race'or maybe this realtimerace (http://www.realtimerace.com/)

Buildings etc. should be very accurate. For the smaller bits and tedious bits like individual trees it probably depends on how much effort they're willing to spend. I've heard of scanning the track with laser for precise camber & bumps etc. All in all it should look very very similar to the real thing.

Not bothered about trees as they will look different anyway at different times of year. It was more curbs, 100/50 boards, turn board, marshal posts boards, marshal posts themselves, speaker stands etc. these are mostly the things we use.

so your only one hell of a driver if you "win races"..........hhhmmmmm so then there are 1,000's of top level drivers out there who will never win a race but they are not great drivers?

thats really going to hurt the feelings of many F1 drivers.....reached the Pinnacle Class of Motorsport but never won a race......
