Is VR dead?

I would much rather have all thumb rotary encoder reachable without changing grip, as on e.g. Simagic FX Formula Extreme Wheel Dual Clutch

Sadly, I'd need someone to reverse engineer their wireless protocol,
finding their wheel bases uncompelling.
It can also be run via USB...

nvmd already posted..

Past the extremely realistic view, the fact that the pass through cameras and logic made it so it both tracked and let his hands and arms be visible in a believable way and it handled depth well enough to handle occlusion when he put his hands behind something in 3D space. All of that accurate enough to be believable seems quite a feat.

It is exciting to know it has gotten that far at that price point. Keep in mind that the XR-3 and first year of maintenance is only about twice the cost of an Aero. It's not like we are talking 10X or something that will take 5 years to trickledown.

PSVR2 announcement went pretty much unnoticed, but I feel that this release will be something the rest of the VR industry will be watching to see how well it's received before investing more into new HW or VR titles.

Thanks
I called them about this and I told them to upgrade the powe supply to 1200W since Im reading 850W won’t be enough for the 4090!
Well I really didn’t want to upgrade my pc this gen but at the end I pushed the order button. 4500$ With 3 years of warranty.

Holy geez! $4500 USD? I hope that comes with a 4090 Ti, a 13900KS, 10,000 MHz DDR5, a Z790 APEX motherboard, a 1600 Watt PSU, and a 240 Hz high-end gaming monitor for that price. Wow.

Seriously. Who in the world is charging $4500 for that a system? What is that company smoking?

i could have built you that same system, probably even better, for $3000 (or maybe a couple hundred $ more). Next time let me know, I'll get the parts for you and build it for free and you't won't have to pay 50% for nothing, lol. Seriously, though, cancel that order ASAP. We, here, can help you build the same or better system at like 60% - 70% of that price. You're throwing $1000 - $1500 away for nothing.

Hi
Here in Israel every thing is very expensive. The 4090 alone costs between 2500-2800$.

I saw that a USB cable was included, but thought that was for configuration and/or firmware updates; their connector does not appear robust enough for driving,
and I have yet to read from Simagic that it was supported.
The connector could have better strain relief but I'm pretty sure the wheel is functional via USB and people outside Simagic ecosystem are already using it with 3rd party coiled cables though it's not officially supported. Wouldn't be too hard to use VHB double tape to fasten some kind of supplementary strain relief. I believe all functions work but apparently on the pro model with the screen the display doesn't sync.

Question for you guys.

Do any of you have Revive working currently?

Yesterday I reinstalled Oculus, and did the Meta conversion.
I reinstalled ReVive. The latest GitHub version dates back to 2020.

The ReVive window comes up Showing the Oculus games that I've updated, but when I click on them they error out.

I'm thinking mostly of The Climb, Robo Recall and Lone Echo etc.. that I have over there. Fortunately I purchased my games through Steam early on, but some of these are Oculus exclusives.

I was told from someone who ordered a Crystal in December that he was told it would be released in January. Now Pimax is saying March. Is anyone surprised?

To be fair I asked him if he would actually bet on that date and he immediately said he would not.

What are the odds that deliveries will happen in March?

I think that nobody is surprised by the delay. January was never realistic.

Let's hope that they deliver a bug free product of good quality this time.

But no matter what: I will wait until it's for sale at EU retailers because pimax.com cannot be trusted when it comes to after sales or returns/refunds.

Kind of sad that Pimax behaves like the way they do to their customers. If they gave better service/after sales then their reputation was not as bad as it is now. They imo ruin their own company by doing that.

At this moment pimax really has a bad reputation and they do not enough to improve it. Their refund policy on their website is the worst that I've ever seen, super customer unfriendly and their warranty is also bad, only one year warranty for a 1900 euro product(since tax is added in the EU). And I've read from many 8kx owners: when they got a problem after the one year warranty they are stuck with a brick, they simply won't repair it. So it's a HUGE risk to buy a pimax product.

I really believe that the crystal is going to be an amazing device for sim racers. But if I had any alternative, then I would always go for that. I hope that they will learn one day but it seems that it's still not the case.

Supposing linear uncertainty, 2 month delay for a 1 month estimate
implies 4 month delay for a 2 month estimate, so by July?
Uniform probability distribution -> 25%

So better than 25% chance by July ? Seems believable.

After all their talk trying to change their image, they are not following it up with any improved behavior. The ever creeping release dates do not engender confidence. It just shows that they are still figuring things out and running into unforeseen issues.

I found it interesting that MR TV mentioned while live with Pimax the distortion on the Crystal lenses and asked if they would have that resolved by release. To which they of course said, yes.

Perceptions can evolve (e.g. Hyundai); changing company culture is harder.
Hyundai and Kia are already looking like they are going to give Tesla a run for their money. They are doing the same thing for Korea that Toyota and Honda did for Japan. Start out with cheap inexpensive cars and the grow them into mature well rated reliable cars that are very good in their markets.

Which is not hard at all as it's the least reliable brand based on Consumer Reports ranking.

I saw that.
So on top of having the safest cars by a margin according crash tests, yet having a higher than average mortality rate ( my guess is that instantaneous super car acceleration available at any speed is getting people in trouble)
And on top of Elon doing his best to destroy the brand name, they have gremlins too!

It will be interesting to see how quickly Telsa can convert over to Sodium battery production. Of course Elon has secured direct from the mine Li production for a chunk of time. Seemed shrewd at the time, but may bite him in the A$$.

BTW I have followed Tesla way back from when Bernard was running the show and I used to think a Tesla would be my next car. Lately I'm heavily questioning that is the direction I'll go in.

I recently picked up a ‘23 Audi Q4 E-Tron. When I unplug it in the morning it says 300+ miles. More like 265 in reality. Love it. More money than a Kia, but very competitive with most Tesla’s.

The wife and I are going solar at the house which got me moving in the EV direction. It’s crazy to drive by all the gas stations I used to frequent.

That's the only electric car that I was considering myself, looks really good, like a normal car, good size for family too.
Still on the fence whether to go for electric or conventional ICE as the next car.

EDIT: I was actually looking at the other, original model E-Tron.
