I had a great few hours last night on a new profile. No thoughts about buying cars and getting money and xp and repair costs and all that crap 'cos i just used a new save while im waiting for the patch to fix mine (apparently)

Raced with a few guys in public lobbies who were really fair and even invited Karl in for a session on open wheelers.

it's not me that's slow.... it's the car.

Just had some laps with Chris online and had no problem doing a 1:33 my own Mini with no tuning. So someone explain to me why the loaner car is 5 seconds a lap slower?!?!?! and how exactly are you guys practicing with a new mini offline? I can't seem to figure it out. Everytime i start a custom cup race offline the only car i can drive is a loaner... and it's consistently 1:38s not 1:33s

Peter, you said you had a session the other morning and jumped straight into races and had a 1:33.... what mode was this? What car were you driving?
I got to custom cup. select street racing, hot hatch, select track and distance. End up in a Mini that has anywhere from 11,000kms to 14,000kms on it.... and it's feckin slow.

Something is not right here Karl. It's not you, it's the game. I mean to say it is you, but once you figure it out, the game will be the same offline as it is online. I need to ponder this. Maybe post some vids of the ENTIRE process you go through offline then with a buddy online, because it's just not the way you describe. I'm sure Peter and Mark would back me up on this. You get the same time with an offline non-tuned car and an online one. Same with tuned. How can I be so sure? Well, I'm the most inconsistent slow ass bastard on these boards practically...and unless I'm just a magic fit with sedans (probably some truth to this, but not that much) then me being able to match times to the second would never be possible were the game as you describe it.

And Peter, I agree with everything you said about it being uneven and not fair and all that stuff. I don't discount it. In fact, I take it into account and respect it. And you. But it's a bit like picking race date. It's all something we love to do, but sometimes you have a choice between a two not so good options. Like F1 and race dates. I'd much prefer to race on the day of the event. In fact, I only joined certain leagues in 2012 precisely because of that. But then when I found this group of guys, and the approach and passion they had, along with the professional way they did things, the hardcore objection kinda melted away. Personally, I don't ever think you will be at a bit disadvantage in the big picture because you are passionate about the game, you love the handling, the cars and the tracks, and the atmosphere, and you practice. From there, me and my customized MINI...or even Chris' or Karl's is no match for that, even if you don't have a single tune. But just to try and make it better let me throw this out...would it be better to reduce the number of cars (I was thinking more cars would be more exciting, but F1 proves that theory wrong to some extent) to say maybe 3-4 and extend the season a bit to maybe 15, so each car races 5 or so times. That way you will definitely have time to get a basic tune. Or would you rather have the diversity. But, from my standpoint, lack of tuning would seriously kill the game for me. Not completely, because I enjoy the challenges and they are untuned, but I can't say I would ever like to go more than 3 laps or so that way.

Karl that's what you are doing wrong its not street racing and hot hatch, its something like touring car category. I'll have to check exactly when I'm on next. I knew there had to be something different you were doing. You can only select loaner in the custom cup mode so it's not that.

Yea, but isn't the MINI only available in one category?

OH MY! Yea, that would do it alright. Thanks for digging that up Pete.
No problem... I did have to be very disciplined though and just check those things in the menu and not jump into a quick session as I would have still been there now rather than in work lol

Of course the trouble is that now Mr Fuss will be right amongst us instead of 5 seconds behind... on second thoughts Karl. strike my comments above.. you're doing everything just fine :ninja::cautious::whistling:

My reposne as promised.... My gripe is not to do with the league, yourself or any other such matter but purely down to my disatisfaction with the way the game itself has been structured in such a way that disadvantages certain people. It just makes no sense to me but I am sure they had their reasons. But of course we have no way to change that so one of my favourite sayings comes to play ‘it is what it is…’ My initial feelings when I realised that full tuning capability was going to take some serious online time was that we should run the league at least initially in loaned or at least un-tuned cars so that we all raced on a level playing field. However, once everyone got so into buying and levelling up cars that was clearly something that would have been unfair. That has become more apparent since I have started fiddling around a little with the tuning options myself and found exactly what you had pointed out previously from your own early experiences with tuning that the cars were that much more fun to drive once you had them tuned to your own particular style. So of course that makes forcing everyone to run un-tuned a no-go.

The number of cars is fine as it is too. I am sure everyone will prefer the chance to run a greater number of cars over the course of the season rather than fewer and even with fewer I am doubtful it would make much difference in whether I got the required cars levelled up fully. The basic tuning just doesn’t provide the depth and refinement required to get the car feeling how I liked it, the increments are too great. Which of course is how it should be otherwise what would be the point of it. I guess they thought needing to acquire the levels would provide more of an incentive to get on and play the game online but neglected to take into account those who are not able to do so with such regularity. There should have been an alternative and I have sugested as such to them but I am sure it will not be something they could change at this stage.

Bottom line is that it is up to me to do one of three things.. 1) Drop the other facets of the game and spend that time in the levelling up process or 2) Find more time to play the game 3) Drop the online stuff (apart from the Challenges which are fun despite the un-tuned cars) and concentrate on the strongest parts of the game.

Option 1 is not a goer for me.. I enjoy the Challenges and Custom Cup modes of the game too much to want to drop them. Option 2 is a tough one. Splitting time between F1 2013 (with the Classic series still on the go as well making the time split even more) and Grid Autosport doesn’t make that any easier and with GA on a weekly schedule I can’t simply alternate between the two as was possible with the F1 Classic series and the modern series until more recent times (and I’m not suggesting a change to that either btw as I think everyone is happy running it each week). Option 3… again not something I would want to do but equally like you I am not sure I would relish 50+ laps in the un-tuned car every race. Might just give a long race in an un-tuned car a go just to see though.

I’ll just try to find an extra bit of time somehow to devote to just the levelling up process but at this time of year that’s tough to do, as explained elsewhere I am away after Friday (next week) and most of my time will be taken up on Summer stuff until the end of the month which will already see us closing in on halfway through the opening season.

Anyway, I am likely popping home for lunch again today to get in a few more Challenge runs so if you around let me know and maybe we can fit in a few levelling up races then.. it’ll be about 1pm my time. Unlikely I know but just in case

That's right now, so I'll check.

Nice one Robert, good use of that extra blue brake into one of the early left handers
