The A.I. I couldnt get close in the 2nd race cos the AI were ramming me off my line and sideswiping me. In the 1st race i didnt figure out there was no collisions until he'd floated through 4 cars and i tried to go around them.

Don't worry they got me too forced me into a barrier and damaged my steering so was drifting right down the straights in the end try to turn left at the 4th to last corner just went straight

Very odd about the collisions, since I didn't change the settings for the second race. More online kinks I guess. This patch better sort a bunch of stuff out. :whistling:

In any case, unless the online gameplay becomes more like the offline (host can set how to start each race...and I've started a "why is offline screwed up" thread with Codemasters) we will have to play each race (of three) according the "previous race order". In other words, qualifying will now become a 3 lap race with Race One being lined up by the finishing order of the three lapper. Then Race Two will be lined up according to the finishing position of Race One.

ALSO NOTE: Because parts upgrades require such a high level of XP for that given car; and because there is now a glitch which wipes out your game saves; and because several drivers have expressed the desire NOT to have cars be unequal in such a drastic manner since they could never get to certain XP levels...there will be no parts upgrades allowed for subsequent races if you are racing your own car. You can still bring your own car so you can tune it and paint it, but please do not upgrade it with any parts (engine, flywheel, brakes, etc.) as this would create too much of an unfair advantage and would not enhance the enjoyment of the game across the board. Obtaining a car (bug aside) and leveling it up is still relatively easily done and can be accomplished fairly quickly. See other threads. Thanks.

Does anyone know if a guy with the name, gamertag, or RaceNet profile of "Revver" is a member here? I have not has any note from him on this site but have a pending request for him to join our RaceNet Club. But I can't approve it until I know he is a member here.

I believe in the advanced options it gives you choice to turn them off Robert :)

The racing or the game Karl?

I saw Robert mention above about your missing the lap time info and I agree with your if that's the case. I like that information to be available too and the fact they mage it worse by removing the engineer feedback from the online side of the game was dumb!!

No idea why they have hamstrung the online side of the game so much (online requirement to purchase and level up cars, no practice or quali like you get offline either which is just ludicrous, especially no quali) makes it feel as though the online aspect was a bit of an after thought in some respects. It's a real shame as the game has so much going for it but mainly in its offline mode.
firstly, i thought everyone would be running a car that you couldn't tune. i thought i had seen someone post that online tuning wasn't possible.....
next, i didn't have the time to practice at all and only had 20 mins before the race to try and learn the circuit...whatever, i was fine with that
but then after the first race started it became obvious that i was slow. dropped back into 9th and the guy in front disappeared and the guy behind was no where to be seen... all this by about lap 3 or 4...with 14 laps in the race. it was fricken boring. and on top of that there was no feedback to help me improve. I had no reference point for whether my times were improving or not, and no gap times. just driving around by myself with a sponge suspension and a broken car.
a few other things that were really annoying were the ambient noise and the lapping cars. the crowd is so loud that in some of the corners i couldn't hear the engine and it was prohibiting me from getting good exits at times. also you can only turn them down to 50%.
the lapping cars and the cars you are lapping ghost, good if you're racing real guys, but i'm not sure the AI should ghost online. it's just lame. I can see why thy thought it would be a good idea, but the ability to turn that off would be a big plus.
last thing. my car was red and i couldn't see the redline of the throttle on the speedometer / tachometer because the lines are red as well. (and i hate red cars lol)

ultimately i didn't have much fun. some of it was the game, some of it(no personal car) was my own fault.
it can only get better from here.

Yeah I agree with you in some parts there Karl, the no tuning was something I was putting forward to keep a level playing field but I understand why guys would want to run with cars that they have worked hard to level up so just accepted it. Although some of the things I am hearing do make it seem that the tuning has more of an impact on performance than we first assumed.

The lack of feedback is poor and I'm the same as you I like plenty of info to keep me in the zone and in touch with where I am losing or gaining time.

I had no idea about the ghosting of other cars so hope that's something that can be switched off.

I hope the patch resolves some of these problems but I suspect most of them are just how the game is rather than things that will be fixed.

Try to get more into the offline Custom Cup and I'm sure you'll enjoy it more and hopefully it will keep your interest enough to get past the online shortcomings if they aren't improved.

Some of this we can fix or explain away, but some is just the way the game runs, either for good or bad.
Tuning is something you can do fully in offline Custom Cup. Peter is right about that. And it's a very enjoyable experience, IMO. If you get into it (kind of like GP in F1, but better I think) then you will find a whole panoply of options and statistics at your fingertips. You even get stats from your engineer on demand from the D-Pad. (how far to car ahead, car behind, etc...). We decided to go with tuning because it does take that "spongy" feeling out of the cars to some degree, but these cars are never going to feel like an F1 car, because they are not. But the tuning (which I think help to mostly let you enjoy your car) will alter the weak points of certain cars (in the MINI there aren't many, but wait until you get to the higher classes). A strong suit of this game is the handling of the cars, I think, and how close to real life it is. But tuning can only be done if you own your own car AND level it up (all explained in the forums). If you want to do this one day, just give the word and I'd be happy to help run some "cash" races with you. You will have enough to bu and then level up a couple cars in no time. Then you can go to offline Custom Cup and simulate a race, or practice, and tune them to your liking. If you tune them in your garage (online) they stay that way for the race.
I have heard others complain about the ambient noise. It doesn't bother me so much, but I found with the headset, and all the other noises but engine noise turned down and the Dynamic range on "high" then I'm comfortable.
The ghost car issue should not and will not happen in future races unless it's beyond my control. I don't know what happened there. If I mistakenly did it, I apologize, but didn't intend to.
This was a very long track, so I too was alone with just myself for a long time. There are only 12 A.I. allowed, or slots. So, like the classics in F1, it can get lonely at times, but hopefully other tracks will cure that.
Knowing the car and the circuit is critical, as you know. Next one is a proper road course I think.

Oh @Karl Fuss I forgot to mention, even if you are in a loaner, you can select your livery from a few designs. When we are in the lobby go to choose car and hit the "X" button I think, for your livery options. I hate red too. lol.

1. All races will start with a 3 lap qualifying session and the second race will line up in order of finish from the first race.
2. No parts upgrades allowed at any time on any car.

Thanks.

i tried some grid autosport this weekend but untill now its not what i hoped for. but need some more time i think on other classes.. some class really feel bad and to much arcade.
@ peter. did you change something at your wheelsettings ?
This is what I posted in the thread I started and I haven't changed it as of yet.. tbh I just haven't had the time in the game to look into it any more.

I've now changed my settings following some testsing last night with Robert Waddell and this is where I am at now:-

Steering
Deadzone 5%
Saturation 100%
Linearity -3
Throttle
Deadzone 5%
Saturation 100%
Brake
Deadzone 10%
Saturation 100%

The steering now feels much better, that linearity change of just 1 step seems to have eradicated the inaccurate zig-zaggy feel I had in the open wheelers. The throttle still has some issues in certain cars (the Lola in particular) but I will test it out with some longer runs tonight hopefully.

I changed the braking deadzone specifically for the open wheelers but up to now have left it that way for all classes and it seems to be ok although I am sure different settings for different classes of cars would be beneficial.

What classes are you not liking Wes? I felt that the openwheelers were a bit odd at times (kind of like they were on a central spindle) but have got used to them a bit more now and although I agree with what you say in terms of the arcade-ish feel the cars in the game on the whole are a lot of fun to drive.

It seems to be important to be able to tune them to get them to feel better but I just haven't been able to do that so far... I don't have the time to level the online cars up sufficiently to obtain that tuning level and therefore have not thought it worthwhile doing so offline yet as I would just be driving very different feeling cars between the two modes of the game.

To confirm:
When the patch arrives it will fix the saves that have become corrupt, you will not have to start again.
In regards to why the saves are becoming corrupt, it's primarily down to an issue with tuning and car ownership that's causing some corrupt data to occur.
I'm hoping to have an update on this for you this week.

Seems staying clear of car ownership and tuning at the moment would be the wisest step if you want to avoid the problem.
