I'm wondering if it happens online. But when I tried to go online with my alternate ID, it said I did not have xbox live privileges. I think you can have multiple user IDs under the same main account (re: live) but to get an actual separate xbox live account you have to pay for it. That's not something I've done or really wish to do. So, the bottom line is that I either have to pay for a new account or make a new profile in Autosport.

But if I make a new User in Autosport, will that overwrite my old one thereby rendering the patch useless or will I still be able to recover the old one either through the game (not sure it will retain the old one since I have not tried to create a new one) or through the saved (corrupt) file on my flash drive? I guess I could just back the corrupted one up to the cloud and have another avenue, but I'm still wondering how corrupted files not still in existence on the game will be recovered via the patch? Any geeks out there with some insight?

Hey Robert, I thought provided you had the corrupt one backed up to a seperate device which you can copy back at a later date it would be fine. You will of course lose the new save (unless that post I reposted here yesterday is correct of course) but at least you will be able to recover everything for the original one.

That's how I understood it anyway.

Is anybody else finding that the gearbox is suffering damage at every race or practice session. No matter what I do the car constantly has a damaged gearbox from about 3 or 4 laps and then 5th gear disappears shortly after. It's always 5th gear that is lost.

I've tried altering my shifting technique but to no avail, it still keeps happening.

This has happened in any of the touring car categories I have driven so far in races of 5 laps or more.

Hmmm. Strange. Sounds like me and you need to get together a little early to see if we can replicate this online. I'll start a new profile tonight. Might be able to buy a MINI and then go from there. If I get corrupted again, of well. I'll also try to see if I can make it through a 14 lapper without losing 5th.

I'll see what I can do Robert but I am out most of the day at one of my Granddaughters birthday parties so not sure what time I'll be back.

I checked out the Codies Grid Autosport blog and it does specifically mention the gearbox damage on there but I'm still none the wiser on how you actually avoid getting the damage.

I remember in Grand Prix Legends you had to lift off the accelerator between shifts otherwise the gearbox would eventually get damaged so perhaps that's worth a try here.

I sure was. In fact, after I created my "new" profile, the old one remained as an option to choose. So, if you ever do get the bug, backup to your cloud, your HDD and a flash and even the game will retain it. In essence, you could have two "driver personalities" to play with.
In any case, I got the MINI relatively quickly. Prices had come down to only $30,000. I would advise getting one Peter. I don't think it will hurt your game and even if it does, you are no worse off since you are not losing levels. Then, grab me or someone (I just created a room tonight and people joined) and run one lappers around short tracks. You will be at Level 16 in no time. I think I got to 31 or something. Far less flexibility on the adjustments, but at least I can tune it.
And I tried some of Boothy's advice and it worked! Well, most of it...like softening up the springs a bit and easing up on the downforce. However my diff is still fairly open and I just could not get used to those higher gear ratios.

Speaking of, I got the same message re: the gearbox about lap 56 or so. It must be just a pattern because I was never hitting the red line.
