I was nowhere close to 2:04's... if they are doing that sort of speed I am thinking the tuning has more benefit than we first thought. Best I managed in a loaner car was around the 2:10 mark which I was able to do lap after lap but never got any lower in the 4 or 5 race attempts I had. I think I was probably too cautious through several of the lower speed corners though but doubtful I would have found another 5 or 6 seconds!!

If I can beat your time, it can't be tuning. Maybe wheel, but I think the key is that wreck, like you said. If you just point your car toward a car that is wrecking (like they say to do in NASCAR) it will be gone by the time you get there. lol. But you can't let off.

the AI are pretty bad. It's like they have no awareness of cars beside them, much unlike the AI in F1 2013 and F1 2012. With both these games coming from the same developer, how can they get the AI so wrong here? I watched a lot of AI last night while doing some of these racenet challenges and they simply swerve over onto the racing line for the corners regardless of cars. I had to restart the Brands Hatch challenge 8 times before making it through the first two corners.

Strange. The A.I. seem to be polarizing. You either love them or hate them. Railer, myself, and Peter love them. I think they drive much more like real drivers. They are unpredictable, they don't yield the line automatically, and you can't block them like you can in F1 (the F1 A.I. are really not competitive at all in my mind). The GRID A.I. also seem to hold a grudge. On many occasion, I have nudged one of them off the line, only to have him pr her come back and do the same to me! But the others did not.

The only gripe I have with these A.I. is their density. In that, when they do hit you, it seems as if their mass is much greater, so they always win and you spin. They also brake awful early. But that's generally not the case on Very Hard. I think in the challenges, the A.I. are set to Medium or Hard.

It’s strange how opinions vary on this… I actually really enjoy the AI in this game, I prefer it to that in F1 2013 in many respects actually as I find those you can pretty much hold them at bay forever if you can get in front of them but are slower (not a problem you have I’m sure lol) whereas the GRID AI really make it hard work and the slightest slip is punished. I’d go as far as to say that they are about the best I have come across and have given me some really fun races.
I will say though that in the Racenet Challenges I think they do seem a bit more aggressive but I wonder whether that’s because we are more conscious of the lap time in those rather than trying to race them. At that Brands one for instance I know that I kept being too eager to get past them into turn one or two and as a result put myself in a bad position and got spun out. Once I stopped that and remained a bit more patient I was able to get through there every time and make a move past them a corner or two later with little or no loss of time.

lol well i'll find out when I test that out. My times were also set with damage gearbox each time so that I am sure prevented any improvement over the last couple of laps.

Wondering whether @Chris Hempsall and @Matthew Booth found much difference between the times achieved tuned as opposed to untuned.

Yeah i did a 2:04:15 in qualifying. Tuning makes a big difference if your more comfortable with the car the faster you can push really. I found with my setup i could brake earlier and slide around several corners at a higher speed then under the default

I don't have a problem with AI defending their line... but when you've already passed them and they take you out from behind that's a problem. They seem most erratic at the start i guess, but i've not got too much exp with them at this point.

Big difference. I did a 2:07 with standard setup. Lost 4 seconds using boothys setup down to a 2:11 and found 3 seconds with my own setup down to 2:04

you both went in opposite directions for the diff and the gears yet both were able to do 2:04s....interesting....

I too go with an open diff and sometimes the gears. On some high end ALMS cars the Diff is almost 100% open IRL. Not sure about F1. But in GRID it sure makes the cars stick better and I like that feeling. (Although I may be losing time down the straights, it's probably just a wash).

MY SAVE DATA IS CORRUPT!!!!

Hours....****ing hours down the drain.

I know this feeling well. Take a breath. It's very upsetting and I'm still mad, but just save your file and be sure to do ALL of the challenges and get a high score. Then there is a big payout tomorrow and grab some online races and level it up in about 1 hr. I know you shouldn't have to. CM had been read the riot act by many on this.

I saved my corrupt file on the cloud and a stick. Then created a new profile and guess what -- the new profile did not overwrite the old one, it rides next to it instead. So I think I'll have two garages when the patch comes out. At least that's a little consolation. There is supposed to be patch info this week.

I got pushed into a barrier by the AI made my steering go red then turned left for that fast left hander after the triple apex and just went straight into the barrier
Whoops my bad. Nobody got a picture of the final standings since they disappear so fast and I had forgotten you crashed out. (DNF, right?) The video I made of the second race didn't go to the end unfortunately. If someone can record the finishes that would be great. There is barely any time to capture that screen.

So Matthew, you were 4th for the 2nd race, right?

What would you all think of having the next race on Monday, August 4 @ say 11pm GMT? Would that work? I have a quirk in my schedule that maybe we can take advantage of to have a weekday race, plus I have to visit my Mom in Norfolk (the real one, not the one they named after it in the U.K.), which means I'd have to miss the Cup race Sunday if we go Saturday. But I'm also good with Saturday too, but I'd have to go earlier, like @ 9:30pm GMT.
