Generally:

Brake Bias - 10% rear
DIff - 100% right
Downforce - 50%-80% right (20% at Indy)
Gear Ratio - Depends on Track
Suspension (front) - 60% right
Suspension (rear) - 80% right

Since posting this, I've noticed a few things about the tuning. It maters more than I thought it would, although it still isn't there to primarily gain you speed, even though it can.

Brake Bias: this seems to be series specific. For instance, IndyCar and open wheel in general favors neutral bias, but this may be heavily dependent on your wheel or controller. I have a Fanatec CSR pedal set (non-elite) and the IndyCar locks up very easily no matter what setting I use. It helps to put a little dead-zone in there, but lockups still persist. Front bias tends to help, but this is dangerous, since this can cause over-steer beyond 10%. So I usually say at 0. For the tin tops, 20% on either side seems to be best, but this is very car specific. I generally do a lock up test (pick a spot on the track to slam on the brakes at high speed and see at what mph I lock and what the stopping distance is) then go with the best results. FWD cars generally like front bias and RWD cars generally rear bias, but where the engine sits makes a difference too.

Diff: This is almost always either 80% or 100% (for tail happy cars like old American muscle cars), but a setting of 0 or even -50% can help on an oval, for instance. This really makes a big difference is helping the cars to stick in the corners.

Downforce: Another big difference maker in the corners. Since this is not really a SIM, I tend to err on the side of more downforce except on the ovals, where zero downforce seems to be best (at least with the open wheel class). Some of the non-grip cars need loads of downforce.

Gear Ratio: More important than I first realized, since it can really help you with accelerating out of turns. I don't automatically set it at "longest" for ovals either, since that usually means I'm not at the peak rev range in the corners. Small sprint tracks could probably see you set the gears pretty short to gain an advantage.

Suspension (front): Highly dependent on the car, but always useful in getting the car to stick in the corners. Since the game tends to err on the side of cars being loose, I typically go +70-100% because the higher setting allows the front to turn in better whereas the rear does not need to. For any given car, I typically use a 20% difference in either setting with the front being 20% more than the rear. But you could probably go lower and be okay.

Suspension (rear): Another setting that is highly dependent on the car, but always useful in getting the car to stick in the corners. Since the game tends to err on the side of cars being loose in the rear end, I typically go +50-80% on the rear so the car will be very tight in the corner, but you could probably go lower and be okay. This range just gives me the crispness of handling I'm used to in F1 and plants the back end solidly.

One thing that I don't find realistic in GAS in the open wheel class is the damage model. Seems like it's roughly equivalent to the model in the sedans (which is pretty good, even if a bit too lenient), but quicker to give you damage when you make contact. They are trying to have it both ways in dumbing down the fact that you can't really touch in open wheel (yet you can here) but also punishing you more severely than sedans (as they should). As one reviewer puts it -- this groping for middle ground only highlights the biggest blots on the game -- lack of pit stops. I think they should have gone one way or the other with the open wheelers, but without pits, I'm okay with where they are, I guess.

As far as driveability, I got in a GP3 car the other day and boy that was a fun drive. I know why you like them so much now Peter. The sensation of speed is much better in this game than Forza, and even F1. And the handling is great in GP3. When you go up to AutoGP or Tier 2, then it gets a bit more "off" as you put it. I can't figure out whether its because these cars are supposed to be hard to drive or because it's just not a very good physics engine for open wheel. Whatever it is, it's even more present in IndyCar. Then again, IndyCars can take more contact than F1 cars, as I have seen them touch pretty hard and come away fine. This is especially true on the street courses, where the downforce is necessary but not critical. Plus, IndyCars are nowhere near as dainty as F1 cars. They are designed with just as much power, but nowhere near the grip levels, in exchange for more diverse racing and closer racing. So maybe they have it right in GRID. I know this...when you get in an IndyCar and have a go around the Brickyard, it's fantastic. At 240+ mph on the backstretch and averaging 230 mph or so, it's a wild ride, just like I'd imagine.

Whatever, the case, you are right, it's all fun with that game.

Did your HPPs work at game launch?

Mine worked fine until just a few days ago. Have no idea why brake and clutch map fine, but this is really annoying. I'm going to post in the Codemasters forum, and hopefully this will be resolved soon.

While GA isn't Assetto Corsa, I did enjoy the single player racing experience.

Nothing has been set in stone except the day. Peter, if you could give us the hour that would give you the best chance to make a race on Saturday, this would probably be what we would run with, since Alex prefers later and it's not really an issue for us in North America.

I would vote for weekly, since F1 is sure to pop up again soon, then we can gauge the success of the league (and game) in general and run another one in the same slot if the interest is there.

Thought I had already replied to this but clearly not... I was going to refrain from giving a time as I do feel it is best for those that can definitely make the races regularly to dictate when they are run and I'll fit them in whenever I am able. On the days when I'm out obviously the later the better so 10pm but just to re-iterate that doesn't guarantee I can make it as it all depends when I get back or when people leave (or if they leave as sometimes some may be staying over) and some weeks if I'm not out it may be earlier so best to stick with what you guys prefer rather than try to accommodate me.

I'd prefer that everyone could make the races. Anyone have an idea on how to do that?

I like 10:30pm GMT. Give those in Europe time to get home from an outing and those in North America to squeeze a race in before going out. July 26th is the first race. Going once, going twice....

Personally I could not care for this game at all. Granted, I haven't played it, and do not plan to do so, but I have been watching tons of gameplay videos on the Tube. Hoping that one day, I would stumble across something cool and interesting.

One guy that I am subscribed too, plays through the game and does some commentary about it. And by just looking at it, I can tell if does look bland and incredibly boring. To me, it's not really that big difference between this and the 1st Grid game. Okay, I lied a little. The first Grid game, if im not mistaken, were okay, at the time. But this? It looks completely soulless. And once again, I can never have an 100% opinion about the game, unless I have the experience, but this is one of those games, I just want to stay away from.

Can't say I've had a religious, soul touching moment, in A/C, GSCE, rFactor2, iRacing, or Raceroom either. I think the human interacting with the game is supposed to have the soul, able to slip into a VR world and race around. Different games have a certain character, Codemasters have their own underlying character. Didn't buy it. Didn't play it, don't review it.

From what I see, Grid Autosport just save the replay of the last race, but I'm convinced they are the cause of my stuttering. I'm running a SLI GTX560Ti 2GB, i7 3770k 4 Ghz, 16 GB RAM 2400. The game is instaled on a RAID 0 SSD. I read that the saved replay cause problems if the game is installed on an SSD:

But I can not find the directory where the replay is saved to make it read-only.

It's utterly pointless giving an opinion on something that you have not played. How can you have any valid input from that unobjective viewpoint. The game is far from boring as I can tell you from having actually 'played' it rather than simply judging it on some videos.

It’s a tough one Robert and especially with such small numbers to play with where just a couple of people missing makes a big difference. I am not sure there is anything more that can be done other than what you already have. I’ll make every effort to get to as many as I can but sometimes it is going to be very difficult for me to say with any certainty in advance.

I haven’t really seen too much of the damage modelling in the open wheelers yet, I’ve not really had that much in the way of contact to find out so far. One thing I meant to ask you though was whether you had found out if there are punctures in this game?

Regarding the handling of the open wheelers I think you are probably right in that most of their efforts have been ploughed into the sedans and they have just tried to tweak things enough to get the open wheelers in their too but have not been able to get it to work in the quite same manner. I certainly am not going lot start slating CM for that however, as despite the slight quirky handling at times I have still enjoyed racing them.. albeit very briefly so far. In fact I may nip home today for lunch just to get myself back in the cockpit in this game for a short spell as I have only managed about 30 minutes since we had that hour and a half session last Tuesday Robert!!

We really need some more bodies on board here...
I've sent out a message to those on my XBL friends list who I think are most likely to be interested to try to get some more involved in the league. Might be worth others trying the same too.

I do have interest from UKOG Cronie and Treviso from the old Race Pro days, but either one or both don't have access to a computer so they can't get on here to sign up they say. I'll be sure to give them the details again and mention that if they can get to any computer with internet access, they can get licensed here and sign up. Both are very fast. I've notice that Trev runs in Boothy time on GRID, as well as Race Pro.

I agree with Peter. I watched the same videos when GRID2 came out and if you put them side by side they both look about the same (whatever that means to you). But having purchased and actually played the games, they are completely different animals. One is for the garbage and one is for the ages. I had the same high hopes for both but only GRID Autosport met them.

Maybe we should all three post some speed test results to each others' location to see who would make the best host? I'm on wireless, but have not had a disconnect on GRID A/S to date. Well, maybe one I can remember, in a public lobby. But I have noticed ghosting from time to time, but lag is not a huge problem, just the ghosting, which can cause problems if the car reappears inside yours.

I messaged Chris (UKOG Cronie) as well. He's a pretty decent driver as well.
