You can find the same in any game, nothing to do with Codemasters or console use.

Look in the right places and you find good, honest and decent racers who are there just to race fairly and not indulge in any of the demolition derby stuff.

Yea, it makes a big deal re: your perspective on Grid A/S in you are using a console vs. a PC. There really is no comparison, and there was no comparison before. PC will always be ahead. PC guys don need to keep pointing this out (as I sometimes look at the endless strings of code that people have to change to get one little thing right. Ugh!).

In any case, I agree with Peter that this what the console deserved all along....a real racer, with diverse cars, beautiful, real tracks, diverse yet authentic handling, and A.I. that will not back down if you are used to abusing them.

The result is the best all around racer the xbox has (and will ever) see. The fact that it came at the end, to extend the shelf life is just a huge bonus.

Morning all,

Had very little chance to get back on track since our session last Tuesday @Robert Waddell so not looking good for me in terms of getting things (cars bought, levelled up, etc.) any time soon. Hadn’t even been able to get involved in this week’s Racenet Challenges until late last night but had a half hour where I just got on and had one or two goes at the Touring Car, Street, Tuner and Party challenges just to try to earn a little bit of cash.

Autosport circuit in those touring cars gives some great close quarter racing. Plenty of opportunity to swap paint there lol. I love those Party elimination events and would have loved to run more than the couple of attempts I had at it. San Francisco was a fun circuit to drive too and those undulations really caught me out on my first attempt lol, looking forward to more of that one. I am really enjoying the street circuits more and more every time I try them, Chicago was a blast and those cars were fantastic to drive around it. Indianapolis Sport Circuit was a first for me and I don’t know what it is but I really like those Tuner cars, it feels like slow motion but boy do I find them fun. One attempt last week at Mount Tremblant in the open wheelers and I never got back to try that one again which was a shame as it looked a nice track to race on and neither did I get to try out the Spa reversed track which was even more a shame as I see I could have used my owned Honda for that one. Does that still give you the levelling up opportunities or is that restricted to actual races?

Two Brands Hatch challenges this week both on the GP circuit… the Touring cars (Cat C) and the Party checkpoint challenge in the Alfa Romeo 4C . Endurance is the tyre wear challenge at the Autódromo Do Algarve in the 787B, Open Wheel is in the Dallara F312 on the international circuit, Tuner is at the Hockenheimring on the drift course and Street is at Paris Champs Ellysees in Hot Hatch category. Should be fun :)

Oh boy! Some Brands Hatch challenges. Finally I can win another platinum. I've spent the most time on that track (it tends to be my test track since I stopped playing Forza 4, where, of course, Road Atlanta was....) and the Cat C cars feel eerily like the WTCC cars in Race Pro, hence I've hone a lot of racing in them on this game. Maybe I can break the top 50% now. I wish they'd fix those leader-boards. No info on when the patch is coming out, but they promised to have them fixed when they announced the game.

Peter, you already have a MINI, no? And I think you said you had enough money to by the next category we race (Endurance, tier 1) I believe. Granted, the "leveling up" is the trickiest part but I think (but don't quote me on this) that you can use your own car in the challenges and you can take them over and over, and you get more XP levels every time you attempt one...AND there is no damage cost. The last one I'm not as sure about but I think it's the case. I'll try and report back.

I've now changed my settings following some testsing last night with @Robert Waddell and this is where I am at now:-

Steering
Deadzone 5%
Saturation 100%
Linearity -3
Throttle
Deadzone 5%
Saturation 100%
Brake
Deadzone 10%
Saturation 100%

The steering now feels much better, that linearity change of just 1 step seems to have eradicated the inaccurate zig-zaggy feel I had in the open wheelers. The throttle still has some issues in certain cars (the Lola in particular) but I will test it out with some longer runs tonight hopefully.
I was running with those steering settings before i went on holiday, Just wondering why you changed the dead zone for the throttle and brake?

It was mainy for the open wheelers there was just something that wasn't quite right with the way the car was reacting and this change seemed to make it better.

The brake was just something I was playing around with and again this felt better and gave a little more leeway for me although in no way is it set in stone.

Yes I have the Mini and Honda for the first two series of races but haven't had any chance to test for the Touring Cars yet. The levelling up is definitely the most difficult part for me as it does seem to take a long time to get everything. Biggest drawback in the game for me by far, everything else I love so far.

I did see that I could use my car for the Endurace Challenge but didn't get a chance to test it out so not sure how it works in terms of levelling up or repairs.

Although I can still map brake and clutch to their HPP counterparts, I can no longer assign throttle to my gas pedal. Only GA appears affected, and my usual cold reboot remedy has no effect. Nor did exchanging USB ports. All three pedal axes actuate properly in Windows 7 controller settings (or whatever its called), and I can map the throttle to other inputs (e.g. CSW buttons).

I'm not sure if GA has been patched since launch week, but adding the CSW Universal Hub (plus accompanying driver/firmware update) is the only hardware change I've made in the interim, and that works fine.

I'm pretty new to PC sims, and Windows in general, so I may be missing the obvious, and any suggestions would be humbly appreciated.

Henk

I'll be on again tonight if either of you are.

Sorry for my hasty exit last night Robert. I went to check on how much a car was and forgot we werent still in a party. By the time I got back in the lobby you were offline.

Now THIS is what I'm talking about...
I'll quote the section that sprang out at me and lit my hair on fire (mirrors to come!). The rest may be useful, but the mirrors are essential. And it shows they are listening to us.

GRID Autosport // Multiplayer Playlist Changes
By Ben Walke @BenWalke · On July 15, 2014
One of the things we’re deeply committed to is ensuring the multiplayer experience is as good as possible. Part of this process revolves around the feedback you’ve provided and since launch we’ve been carefully sifting through everything you’ve had to say.

Currently we’re busy preparing a number of improvements that are due to come in an upcoming patch; including advanced controller options for all wheels and controllers, a virtual rear view mirror and we’re also tweaking the matchmaking system to ensure finding games is a much smoother process.

Today though we’re here to talk about playlists, and one thing we’ve been hearing from your feedback is that you want more variety in the available tracks.

As such we’ll be making the following changes in an upcoming patch:

It's interesting that they are looking to add virtual mirrors rather than just fixing the actual mirrors we have in the game. Wonder why they don't just do that like they gave us with F1 2013?

Virtual mirrors makes it sound like we may get some kind of added overlay on the screen with the view behind that you already get with the look back feature.

I also wish we didn't have such a long wait for these patches on the console. Once out on the pc we generally have quite a while still to wait while it passes Microsoft scrutiny, my guess is were looking at mid August at the earliest :O_o:

Yes, I would agree with you about the timing. I have no idea why it takes so long for the console, but my guess is they have to go through red tape via the respective makers of them, unlike computers.

Personally, I'd consider a virtual mirror better than making what we have into a mirror, simply because the cockpit views are not always good enough (wide) to have a mirror without skewing the cockpit. I'd rather the non-skewed cockpit (F1 has indeed stretched the boundaries of where the driver sits (waaaaaay back) to fit the mirrors in. It works ok on some cars, like Sauber, but not on others, like Red Bull. A virtual mirror is more like what you would see IRL. And that's why I like it better. The immersion factor. I would not press a button to look back IRL.

And they could solve all of our concerns if they would just put in a head cam or cockpit view that had a "look to apex" feature that you could adjust with a slider. Then you could have all the real mirrors you wanted.

That’s exactly the reason Robert and Microsoft are the worst culprits hence why we tend to get these things later than anyone else. From what I read a patch was already submitted to them so the latest news is possibly to do with a second patch which may be even longer before it sees the light of day on our consoles.

I have seen working mirrors that look really good with the cockpit positioning that we have now but I guess anything is better than nothing although it does depend on how they have implemented it. I have seen some really bad ones that spoil the experience so I hope they are an option rather than something you are forced to have in case they are not done very well. What I definitely don’t want to see is any overlay that just jumps out at you as that would spoil the immersion factor considerably, it needs to be something subtle that doesn’t intrude on your view all the time and kind of disappears or when you are not using it.

It’s a shame the look to apex view was not implemented as I am sure it was originally mentioned as being in the game. I first saw that working really well many, many years ago so not sure why it still doesn’t appear on all racing games.
