Pre-Race
I had a quick seat fitting and lesson on steering wheel controls at Sauber after scrambling for a new team after some (insert nasty word here) STOLE MY RENAULT.
Qualifying
the session went all wrong for me, after a few runs at the start to get up to speed on the wet track i went back to the pits and waited till near the end of the session as i knew the track would be faster, unfortunately i got a puncture in casino square for the slightest of touches..
ended up P5 on a 1:26xxx.
The Race
Lined up on the inside and as the lights went out i got superb traction, and coasted up the inside into turn 1. Took it nice and easy, gave plenty of room the the guy outside of me as i didn't expect to overtake, just wanted to not crash. Speeding up the hill i look back to a big incident at turn 1 just behind me - unsure who/what cause it, so i pushed on, taking the first few laps nice and easy on full fuel to keep the car out of the barriers. On the tail of Dylan and David i saw Jack increasing his lead and i knew i had to push on and pass these guys otherwise it would be a run away race.
My original strategy was a 2 stopper starting on primes and 12 laps each on 2 sets of options - based on my assumption i'd be stuck in traffic.
However, soon David made a couple mistakes, ran wide allowing me and Dylan to nip past. Now I was running 3rd place right on Dylan's gearbox on a lower engine mode to save fuel for later. After a few laps Dylan made a mistake allowing me to overtake by which point Jack was some 6 secs ahead of me.
I began to push hard on fast mode keeping the gap about 5 secs to Jack - he pitted on lap 9? relief for me matching his options pace. I kept on pushing slightly extending the gap to Dylan every few laps. I think he had a drive thru in the latter stages ruining his chances of catching me.
Pitting on lap 27 for options my pace was consistent and fast, I heard Jack saying he might as well pit again because there wasnt chance of him catching me (i think) so ambitiously lapped some qualy laps setting my PB ever of a 1:14.982 (never done that in qualy nvm race).
I was close to lapping Jack until I made an error at turn 1 and spun on lap 37, leaving my wing on yellow, this was the 1st mistake i had made all race pretty much.
Summary
My best monaco race ever, winning convincingly with virtually no mistakes.
Roll on next race..
