That didn last for long. In fist corner there was big server lag or perhaps it was just my computer but I went upside down and received stop and go.
Because im not sure what caused that huge lag I decided to quit.

peace

Dun dun dun, another one bites the dust! Sorry to hear that Jari, was hoping my disaster would be the last for the RD team. The race could get quite lonely if the attrition rate doesn't stop soon :p

Sounds like things are going pretty bad from what I can hear on TS, only Cam and Olly seem to be having no problems.

Still can't believe that I couldn't get in, I can't believe no one told whoever was spectating to get out!

Well that didn't go so well. There was HUUUUUUUUGGGGGEEEE lag coming up to the first turn and cars were jumping all over the place. I bailed onto the grass to try and avoid everyone until things calmed down. I came back on the track in 7th and tried to settle down for the long race. Everthing was fine for the next 5 laps or so and then evo froze on me. I hoped it was just the usual 1-3 second freeze but it never came back and I had to ctrl-alt-del out of there.

sigh.

What a disaster.
First we started everything 10 mins ahead of schedule. I asked if someone was spectating and was advised no, but I'm pretty sure some was. I saw Nigel Eiffe ask if he could watch. When Richard was trying to join there were only 23 listed cars in the game?? However Richard, were you trying to join in Warm up, I don't know if that is possible.

Race was a shambles for me (the little bit I had ). Qualified in the middle somewhere.

Turn 1 was a horror story. A massive lag at the chicane caused mayhem with cars lagging horribly and crashing all over the place. Somehow I managed to eventually get through the mess and settled into about P10. On lap 5 I had moved to P8 and was trying to settle into a rhythm when I was hit by Marty Atkins (who was a lap down by the way) in the last chicane, which flipped me into a roll and slammed me into the wall. The guy that took me out, continued on without any hint of waiting. After about 5 mins I managed to extricate the car from the sand and wall, but it was almost undriveable. Somehow i struggled it back to the pits (after spending about another 8 mins in the sand at parabolica) for repairs and tried to continue. However, for some reason the repairs were not effective and the car had the steering wheel at 45deg and wouldn't turn right. After about 3 more excusions into the sand, I gave up.

All that build up and practice for that. Hmmmnnnn!!!!

However Richard, you were trying to join in Warm up and I don't know if that is possible.

No, the first time I tried to join was at 7:55 AEDST, which was still in practice. It said for the server that there were 24/24 cars in game. When I clicked on it and entered the password it told me that the game was full. I then tried again a but under 10 minutes later, same thing happened. I then tried to contact you guys on TeamSpeak but my mic wasn't working. I then figured out how to send text messages via TS but noone saw it I guess. So then I finally sent a Steam message to Rhys who recieved it but it was too late by then and you were in Warmup. Tried anyway to get in but it was still saying 24/24 and when I entered PW it said "You can only join in practice and qualy sessions"

AAARRRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!

I'm willing to bet lots that someone was in as a spectator, especially since I saw him ask earlier.
Bad luck and very annoying, but we were nearly all out of luck with this one.
We need to have some discussions with Tyson before the next round.

Ok some more bad news from me....although I can't remember if I was needed next Saturday I won't be available due to having to work until 8:30 :(

Some good news.....I recently added another 2 GB of RAM to my comp, which may fix my Nurburgring problems - so I might be available for that round. I'll test and report back...

ok that was fun ,
congratulations and thanks to Tyson for organising this event ,it was an absolute shame that the lag messed up the start of the race ,but what can you do ? i finished 8th about 4 or 5 laps down ,ok that wasnt my plan ,my plan was to be there at the end and reasonably be reasonably well placed . a little disapointed at the ruthless nature approach that some took to the race in general ,ie passing ,ok i was slow but tried to get out of the way as soon as possible ,but this wasnt good enough for some as they became rather aggressive in their passing only to pit a few corners later . never mind my attitude towards racing online wont be changed ..... to have fun is my first goal and to be reasonably competitive is my second .
Tyson,
once again thanks for a great evening and for you efforts .

Hmm, sounds like almost no-one from RD had a great run last night

I'm still looking forward to Spa though, was gutted to be away for the ICONZ round there. Put in a few laps last night while I was supposed to be lapping at Monza, got down under 2:20 but have a heap of understeer to tune out, if I can get that sorted then 2:16-17 should be doable. Anyone keen to try for a combined practice/test night this week if/when the server flicks over to the new track?

Cheers,
Chris

First, thanks Tyson for an enjoyable, frustrating event. The lag at the start obviously effected the results greatly.

The aggression shown by some racers, I felt, caused many other issues and took away from some of the other more positive aspects of the night. I think that the aim should be about participation and ensuring that all racers finish. Of course I realise that that won't happen, but for 50% of the field to drop out is a real pity.

The frustration that Richard must have felt should not have happened. He seemed to have been knocking on the door for a bloody long time, but no more room. Perhaps no spectators next time or make the field larger (up it to 27?) so each team can have a spectator?

WD to Rhys and Olly, who made it through the race. Special mention to Olly who BEAT ME, despite my best sledging over Teamspeak. The better driver won!

Richard, you may want to run some practice in the Viper, it may be available that weekend. it might really suit you too at that track, it has super top speed for that looooong straight.

The Gumboot is definitely unmanned at Nurburgring at this stage, I would love to be there but will be out of town...

Oceania Inter-Club Challenge - Spa

I thought it best to start a new thread, the other one is getting very long.

We need to sort out our team for the next round at Spa.
Please note though, even though there are 9 cars available, we need a team of 8 drivers for the round.

Racedepartment's Team for Spa:

-Aston Martin DBR9 - Cam Wedgwood Confirmed
-Audi R8 GT Concept - Olaf.j Linortner Confirmed
-Corvette C5 R - Rhys Gardiner Confirmed
-Corvette C6 R - Michael Stead Confirmed
-Dodge Viper GTS/R - Warren Dawes
-Gumpert Apollo GT - Chris Rodgers Confirmed
-Koenigsegg CCGT - Günthar Rowe ??
-Lister Storm - Andrew Dawes Confirmed
-Saleen S7-R - Jari Vinnari Confirmed

I'll update this post as each driver confirms.
We need to salvage some pride next round, our luck has to improve this time.

Question for Tyson:

Which version of Spa, 2004 or 2003 ??

Okay, report time!

I didn't manage to set a time in Qualifying (those cutting rules... :pissed-off:).

I had EPIC lag at the start, as did everyone else. The race, apart from the lag, humourous banter with Cam and Olly over TS and getting a bazillion Stop-and-go penalties, was uneventful. Incredibly, I managed to finish 9th. However I was promoted to 7th after two people left....

Looking forward to Spa!! Oh, and on a side note... I won't be available for the Nordschleife round, since I will be at the Perth Motorplex, watching some Sprintcar racing!!
