Australia & New Zealand

I may be wrong, but I think one problem for getting an Oceania League style series going is that no one locally is trained in how to setup and maintain GPCOS.
Since it is the program used across RD (and other communities) for League management, we need someone who can maintain it for us, or someone who is willing to be trained to use it. (Volunteers ??)

I also think that some form of league or points maintainance system will add interest and help keep regular attendance.

Warren I have already setup a full F3000 league, so I have some experience there. I also told Cam several times I would be willing to get you guys started. It is much simpler than it looks.

Yup, I'll put my hand up for anything like that if we go in that direction. Good to hear you're around to get us underway Eric :)

I totally agree with a decent points system and a league type structure I have been managing GTR2 league and Race 07' now for nearly 5 years and come league night full atendance, organise a fun run and 10 turn up? its the same thing everytime drivers only ever turn up when it counts for something.

not really my discussion, but that's absolutely untrue and goes against everything that club nights should be and are about...

Looking at the replys here, I would doubt that a propper defined league would solve any problems, there are many guys that race in other leagues and I think you can not commit to too many leagues.

Same is true for me, my time is very limitted, mostly I only race on the week end, as I need the week for practice (I am in the same boat as Chris, if I want to run decent lap times I need lot of training laps). I commited to 1,5 leagues already (Mini and on reserve for the Camaro Cup). I would not commit for another one.

So for me, the fact that I dont have to commit is a clear plus!

Just to be clear. I'm not actually suggesting a league. I know what i'm saying sounds like a league (ie. identified schedules (at least 2 weeks out) with points) but that doesn't have to be the case. I don't think the past seasons were really treated like a league. What it did is reward the people who showed up regularly. That was more importnant than winning. The problem with a league is you care about coming 1,2,3, the focus is on results mainly and the fun disappears as the competitiveness increases. Provided we as a group remain focused on the 'club racing' concept foremost and the points are just an auxillary thing to add interest it could still work. It does require the right club culture that doesn't make winning more important than fun racing.

I was trying to think of slightly different scoring (consistent laps, or fastest lap closest to pole) to support this notion but i couldn't come up with something that works. But to be honest we shouldn't have to enforce it, but we may need to keep it in the forefront of discussions.

And finally, so nobody wants my excel sheets, is that what i'm reading :weep: lol.

I'll go take my ideas to Bernie Eccelstone in Melbourne tomorrow. Woohoo Melbourne GP here i come.:dance2:

Here is a copy of Tyson's proposed schedule for Saturday night. If anyone has any major concerns, please let us know asap. It all looks good to me. Also, if anyone currently signed up for our Team wont be available, please advise.

I think maybe we start the race at 8pm Sydney time. This should see the race finish around 10pm Sydney time. The F1 is on this weekend so this should give everyone a chance to watch the telecast before getting in some prac.

Are we all agreed on the times below.
- Gates open at 6:00PM AEST (7:00 Sydney, Melbourne)
- Practice: 150mins
- Qualify: 20mins (Super Pole)
- Warmup: 10mins
- Race: 8:00 AEST (approx)
- Race Format: 120mins
- Pit Stop: Open
- Damage: Full
- Flags: Full
- Weather: Changable
- Cars: GT Pro
- Track: Monza

There is a Typo in there.
Should look like this
- Gates open at 5:00PM AEST (6:00 Sydney, Melbourne)

Are we all set for this weekend guys? Everyone have the details etc?

Hmm, I was confused for a while there about the times, but I'm pretty sure I'm all set now...will arrive a bit early in case I've got an off-by-one error in my time zone calculations ;)

Not gonna be the quickest guy out there, but I've got enough consistency now to hopefully get through the 2 hours unscathed, so hopefully I can benefit from a few retirements and guys losing time to crashes/black flags...not the RD guys of course!

See you all Saturday :)
