EDIT - Actually, not as big a deal as if you had already prequalified, but still, your first port of call regarding league absences should always be e-mail.

Yes it is for people who pre-qualy, so if you don't do any pre-qualy laps you don't have to report an official absence.
If you post any pre-qualy laps, then you must use the email address.
