On the iOpener website there is a very interesting article about an upcoming World Rally Championship simulator:

World Rally Championship's next game: Racing live against rally heroes

The next generation WRC computer game will allow players to 'compete' in live rallies", states ISC chairman Neil Duncanson in the April version of SportBusiness International magazine. ISC, the global promoter of the World Rally Championship (WRC), mentions WRC's ultimate goal as building up an online gaming world championship alongside the real thing.
ISC and the computer gaming industry believe the next step in gaming is this 'live' competition between gamers and real drivers, made possible through iOpener's patented technology.
ISC CEO Simon Long says: "Now we are a global promoter, we want this to be multi-platform, multi-publisher, multi-territory."
For Long and Duncanson the new game is part of WRC's broader efforts to appeal new fans beyond the hardcore enthusiastics. FIA's chairman Max Mosley has said the virtual champion will be honoured at the WRC's annual end-of-season awards ceremony in Monaco.

Last April we already brought you the first news about iOpener Media's beta testers recruitment for their Real Time Racing project.

The news about this technology where virtual racers can compete against the real drivers on the track in real time is now spreading amoung the simracing communities.

iOpener is still looking for the worlds best simracers to join their beta test program that's about to start soon. If you are interested in joining then you can sign up on the RTR website

WRC 3 Stage Guide coming up this week!

Wonder how all stages in every location relate to each other? I am working on a guide (pdf) that shows you the 'Master Stage' of every location and how each stage is plotted on it, so you can see where they overlap. If you don't like seeing the same scenery twice in a row this guide will help you decide which single stages to drive to prevent that from happening. ;) If possible... Info like surface, length, etc. will also be included.

Should be done somewhere this week!

WRC 3 Stage Guide coming up this week!
That´s an interesting point from J van E. I just drove the first Rally in Monte Carlo and was a bit dissapointed about the overlapping stages. In my opinion the "Master Stage" should be one single stage and in addition to that there should be 5 different others without repeating some parts. Is this overlapping/ repeating problem the same with the other countries?

Yes, it is. Unfortunately. It's my ONLY disappointment with this great game.

Each country has ONE master stage on which ALL stages are plotted: the master stage is either a kind of circular one or a long road with one side road. I can tell you right now that there isn't a single UNIQUE stage in the game: they ALL overlap somewhere. In large parts too. Some stages even are simply smaller parts of another bigger one and if you would drive those two one after another, that would be quite boring...Anyway, whatever stage you drive, you will always see some repetition of the scenery...

With my guide however you can pick single stages in such a way that repetition isn't too obvious (if you like to drive only single stages).

I also already noticed that the maps you see in the game are sometimes rotated, so it isn't too obvious the roads are pretty much the same... Sneaky guys over there at Milestone... ;)

So they used the same trick as Codemasters did in Dirt 3. Luckily we don't have only 3 (or 4?) but 13 locations, so there still is more then enough diversity in WRC 3!

Did anyone buy this from a digital distribution and not get the crash on startup issue that had to be resolved with the Demo .dll files?

I'm having to use the Demo .dll workaround and trying to wait to hear that it will be patched but am sort of worried about putting time into the career mode (30% done so far) since I noticed the save dir is in the WRC3_DEMO dir instead of WRC3... hoping they get this patched and that I won't lose career progress when they do so.

Enjoying WRC3 for sure but annoyed about the fact that they would release with a startup crash and no support section on their website when you try to get support.

I think all digital distribution versions have the same problem. Not good...

Another slight disappointment... weather and time of day is hard coded in the stages and since every location only has one real main stage every single stage in a location has the exact same circumstances... In Dirt 3 you could at least completely change a stage by chosing rain or dawn or dusk or night, but not in WRC 3. There isn't any dawn, dusk or night stage anyway. And afaik it only rains in Wales (which btw looks awesome). Pity... I still love the game but it feels I only got 13 stages which a set type of weather and nothing more. The more I play it, the more things I discover that make me think 'hm, that's a pity...'

And still I like it a lot... ;)

Yeah I don't mind the overlapping stages so much since that happens sometimes too in the WRC, but the hardcoded weather is a bit disappointing, I was just driving Wales in the rain and enjoying it and wondering what it would be like in the dry or mixed conditions.

Oh well, still having fun and hoping for a patch, thanks for confirming the startup crash affects all digital distribution.

just installed from DVD pc version using G27 wheel but gear stick shifter not working (paddles work fine) anyone know what I need so I can use the stick, I know in RBR you need a plug-in cant see why you would need one for a new game like this

also I’m using my G35 head set and I have no engine sound from the car in game but if I use my Logitech 7.1 surround desk top speakers its fine, but i would prefer to use my head set

if anyone can help with the 2 problems above pleas post up thanks

Well, I have sound problems myself. I tried the files from the demo to try and fix the issue (no engine sound once the stage starts), but I found the game doesn't appear to support surround sound. By switching to 2.1 sound on the creative control panel, it plays the sound perfectly fine in game. Andrew, it might not help your problem but this may help others.

the sound in the game is bad after playing for some time not using my G35 head set (because i cant hear the engine sound) just my desktop speakers im getting a lot of pops crackle and noise i dont get this in any other games i play and i play loads of games from RBR project cars to FPS games like BF3 and ARMA2 and alls fine this problem with the G35 head set is a bad thing and what’s more the problem with the G27 stick shift is crap its a rally sim well if you can call it a sim its more like a game from what iv seen so far a game like this should work out of the box with all the hardware out on the market today don’t they have players testing this before the game comes out

im disappointed to say the least

RBR blows this game out of the water IMHO

I finished my WRC 3 Rally Stage Guide! It (simply) shows you the basic information of every rally stage but most importantly how all stages in one location relate to each other. See the pdf (in the zip) for more information.

Let me know when you find big mistakes! I will only post the link on this forum for now (and on a Dutch forum) until I am sure everything is okay.

Enjoy.

EC Sim Hardware are working on a sounds, physics and FFB mod for this title. If they pull it off it could be good. I really like this game already because it's fun. But it's the stages more than the physics IMO that make it challenging, the physics are quite forgiving.

That is impresive...after those two videos, the game might atract some more people in to it.If EC get it done properly and they change everything, than we can say the succes of the game will be because of EC and not Milestone. But to make this game a real competitor for RBR the Physics, sounds and car models must be perfectly made,or remake better say as i sow a video that shows some wierd difference in car models inside than real ones and it is realy disturbing if so...
I`ve made a video too....on hood view it has a verry nice sence of speed than cockpit view.

Hood view always gives a better sense of speed. however with WRC 3 (and F1 2012) recently) I switched to the cockpit view after using the hood view for years and years. I always found the cockpit view a bit too hard, but somehow I got used to it in F1 2012 and now I LOVE it in WRC 3. It feels so much more real!

About that EC mod... what exactly is that? It is a physics mod too but you need their hardware or something...? (Yes, this is the first time I've heard of EC Sim Hardware......) Or can you use their mod with 'normal' hardware too?

EDIT
About that second onboard video: I also like driving without a HUD. Just the car, the stage and me. ;) They don't have a HUD in real life, so why should I need one...? ;)

O, and btw I ONLY play single rallies and stages: I looked at that Road to Glory once and decided to forget about it completely. Not my kind of thing. I am glad I can drive single stages, single rallies and even a complete customizable championship without any other crap: that's what I bought this game for!
