Tactile Immersion - General Discussion - Hardware & Software

@blekenblue don'yt worry I sent a message in an log and high level thread and some infos can be missed.

@anton_Chez thanks really appreciated. Putting away the BT connection the ampli for around 20 euro (+refund) should be ok to run 4 pucks.

So the purchase list will be: this ampli, a sound card 5.1, another RCA cable, a USB multiport, a strip of velcro double face, 10m R/B audio cable (have already).

Can I proceed?

Thank you guys it is a bit more clear

So, if I follow the Home theater route
I need
1. 1 home theater - Cheap on the used market
2. 1 sound card 5.1 or 7.1
3. 1 3,5 cable to RCA ( I have already one )

Pro
High number of single channels
Power
Price
Con
Cable
Size, weight
sound card

I'm wondering if the Bluetooth can be used instead of grab another sound card.

When an audio device is connected, SimHub recognizes it as an independent external device.
The idea is to rid of the wires with the PC maintaining the ability to move my rig still swapping with the work monitor.
As said I'm waiting for 80 euro refund from Amazon.
Can this amplifier Douk Audio M4 do the trick?

4x Dayton Audio TT25-8 PUCK - 8 Ohms

Thank you
Just chiming in that I have used that Douk M4 amp and four Dayton 8ohm pucks under my seat for a couple years now and it works very well.

Though I just replaced them for an LFE, the pucks stickied in the corners of my seat gave really great feedback from that amp.

Thanks for your feedback really happy and excited to finish all the staff asap

Also, check if the amp has USB connectivity. If it does, it's already an onboard sound card and does not need an additional sound card in the PC and RCA cables to run. It will most likely be 2 channel stereo, so 2 individual units can run from it with their own channel.

yes it has a USB
From specs: With U-disk input, it can be used as a digital music player, supporting MP3, WAV, APE, FLAC and WMA lossless formats.

Couple things I’ll also add, I never used the Douk m4 in BT or USB mode. I had an external 7.1 usb soundcard already for my other shakers that I just plugged two RCA->3.5mm cables in for the four channels direct. I cannot state how well the USB port functions(don’t bother with BT as mentioned), but all four channels work perfectly running off RCA(making sure to toggle the tiny ch3/4 toggle button on the back to ‘in’ or not pressed in, easy to miss that. Otherwise ch 3/4 pucks won’t output correctly).

I recommend 3M double sided sticky tape discs to place the pucks(I think I used 2” diameter which fit perfectly), especially under a fiberglass seat. Don’t even need the included plastic mounts. They get stuck easy and never once in two years came loose no matter how much shaking they or my larger BK vibrated. Can use a hairdryer to easily remove them with heat later if needed(as I just did). No marks or residue or anything was left behind. Heavy duty Velcro may work, but eh…I like the sticky tape and it will secure them very well, transmitting all vibrations directly as if they were part of the seat.

Will need to dial in the gain on the amp. I settled on keeping the dials around 10-11am(just under 50%), any higher and you can overpower or cause knocking against the seat. Any lower and the effect feels too subtle or unfelt. Just need to play with it, but once you set the amp dials you can ignore them and focus on Simhub for per effect volume. Just don’t push those four red dials to max or far beyond halfway really.

Need some help here...

I've been using a TST329 and LFE connected to an NX3000D for a while now. I run the NX Edit software in Dual Mono mode so that I can tune each transducer separately. I have a different profile created in NX Edit for each car that I drive, as well as some different settings in the iRacing tactile section.

I just bought a second set of everything above - another TST329, LFE, and NX3000D. I can't figure out how to run a second instance of NX Edit so that I can tune my new transducers. (They are mounted in different places, so they won't be using the same settings as the original pair of transducers).

How do I go about using two NX3000D amps and running two instances of NX Edit?

****************** Looks like I found my answer *****************

I'll keep this post up in case anyone else needs the answer, or in case someone has something else to add that I might be missing (or in case I'm wrong).

Looks like you can only be controlling one amp at a time with Nx Edit. So I'll need to come up with some global settings for my second amp (which will be controlling foot pedal/steering wheel tactile via a TST329 and an LFE), "set it and forget it", and then I can reconnect to my original NX3000D which is running a TST329 and LFE connected to my seat, and that pair of transducers I can still switch profiles I've created for specific cars.

You could still switch profiles for both but you'd need to constantly remove one amp, set the profile, connect amp and repeat for the other one. I can't remember how Windows sees the amps, you might be able to just disable one of them in device manager and then the OS and NX Edit will only see one connected at a time. Saves the hassle of physically messing around with it. When I had my 1000D connected I never even left the USB in. I took it out, but I never changed anything once it was set.

OK.....

Most of you know that I've been involved with Race Bass for a while. Well, everything has been shaken up and there is a complete reorganization taking place. It probably won't be complete until September. We are trying to take the parts of this that are fun and remove the parts causing pain and aggravation. We are also trying to create a more inclusive tactile group that shares what we have all learned about tactile.

Key point #1 Race Bass tactile profiles, DSP profiles, hardware recommendations and full documentation will be available with no paywall of any kind or any requirement of any hardware purchase.

However, I would like to set some expectations before this happens. These profiles are very highly specialized for the standardized hardware that Rodney has recommended. They are very complex with many layers working together across multiple transducer types.

What this means is that for a single effect that there may be 3 or 4 separate layers for the large BK's and 3 or 4 more for the TST's and another few for the exciters. They are designed to work together so you can feel numerous effects at the same time and the effects are designed to utilize the frequency ranges of those specific transducers. Entire layers may exist below 20 Hz and work to create a harmonic with another layer and some layers are higher frequencies such that many layers will barely register on say an Aura that has a narrow frequency range.

There are also multiple variations for some effects with some favoring realism and other sim rig effects that people enjoy feeling but may not be as true to life. We all know how this works with FFB. Sometimes sim racers like to feel a few extra things because it adds to the experience. Others want as true to reality as possible. There are enough variations to be a bit overwhelming at first.

These effects absolutely work great if you have matching hardware.

However we've even seen that with the recommended BK/TST pairings but without exciters, some are not as happy with the newer effects which use exciters as part of the whole system compared with the earlier effects that were entirely BK/TST based.

So in the end YMMV in terms of how these work out of the box on your system.

So what about me with my Aura's or Reckhorns ?
There is a much larger group out there with all sorts of tactile configurations and transducers and SimHub tweaking experience.

Key Point #2 Supporting the larger DIY community There will be an effort to organize the efforts of people who want to develop and share their profiles and tactile efforts.

I have no doubt that people will find ways to adapt Rodney's profiles to work within the limitations of different hardware, and that some people will be able to tweak them to work with their particular systems.

There are also other people actively trying to develop their own effects for less expensive or simply different tactile systems.

We want to support all of that.

Key Point #3 The elephant in the room....
Rodney and RaceBass have been a lightning rod over the years. It's no secret that Rodney has strong opinions, likes his way of doing things and has rubbed many the wrong way.

Rodney will be Rodney and he will have a Race Bass area in this new structure where he is king. It will be for people following his suggested hardware solutions and he will have complete control of this area.

This public release will likely not change Rodney's direction. He's been on a mission for a while now to see what is possible. He will continue working in the high end pushing boundaries further. That is the nature of his drive and what is fun for him. So new profiles will continue to developed and continue to make people following his guidelines very happy and by extension be fun for him.

For the non-elephants
There will be a distinctly separate DIY area for people who are not following Rodney's suggestions. This will be an organized and moderated space for civil discussions. Rodney will be subject to moderation just like anyone else. The intention is to add moderators to this space who have no Race Bass affiliation and just want to keep the conversations constructive.

This area will have a repository of Rodney's Race Bass profiles for people to download. It will also have an area for other user profiles with the requirement that the hardware that they are designed for is specified to help people find profiles that match the hardware they own.

Structure will be added as needed. There will be some read only channels that only store profiles or documentation so they can be easily found by others and not lost in long chat dialogs.

Details on how to join this Discord group will come over the next month.

It's good to see that things are heading towards being more inclusive for those of us that don't have the funds to chase moving goalposts. I found myself up sh*t creek without a paddle, having half the gear but no profile creation skill :roflmao:

Hopefully we'll see this thread becoming active with help and advice once again, as let's be honest, it pretty much died once the Rass Bassers splintered off to form their own group.

I don't think you are alone, and I think this could be synergistic with people learning together.

This thread will never go back to the way it was. I see it moving forward.

I see the coming channel structure in Discord being a VERY dynamic thing that grows with our needs to allow storage of what needs to be maintained and easily found as well as different focused discussions. It will be a living breathing thing.

I still see people asking questions in this thread and hopefully people who live in both spaces can share appropriate information. This will continue to be a good conduit.

I like Race Department and my rig still isn't done yet ;) I'm not going anywhere.

Related to moving forward I have tried to make it clear that Rodney's quest hasn't changed. He still feels as strongly as ever about the right way to do tactile, but now he has proven his vision.

He started this thread at a different point in his journey. He has now achieved critical mass. He has absolutely proven his concepts work with a decent sized group of people who could afford to do things his way. Now that he has an interested group of people who have the tactile rigs that can give him feedback on new ideas and who are not fighting him every step of the way, he doesn't have to spend all of his time trying to convince people to give his ideas a try.

In hind sight I think for a while this thread was Rodney's way to try to get that core group of people together to help take tactile to the next level.

Now this thread will be something else. If anything we will hopefully end up with more resources for people at any level of tactile.

SimHub #shakeit-basshackers-setup is not the right place for this?
It already has decent userbase and all profiles are for SimHub anyway so this would help avoid unnecessary user segmentation and efforts of bringing people together on the new channel, unless of course Wotever has different view on this and prefers to keep anything even remotely associated with RaceBass away from SimHub discord.

This sounds like it was a fun experiment, but also sounds like other than for the extreme DIY diehards with a lot of cash, it’s not an ideal option.
I suggest worth trying. Mr Latte is pushing some hardware and its really good hardware, his profiles are made for that.

I wouldnt write off his profiles thinking they may not give good results for other hardware though.

I get that he wasnt keen on handing it all out and having people say its not so good on x, y and z which it wasnt made for.

Now he is giving everyone the opportunity to try things you can get what you can out of your own hardware. Maybe you have to remove a layer or two where your hardware might not cover the freq range well but its a far better starting point for those that dont tinker with profiles and with them opening up I imagine that many will take them, modify them and people with cheaper hardware will benefit.

I wonder if this change of direction was through choice or through necessity. I know that if I was the developer of free software that offers users the ability to create complex shareable profiles I would not be happy about someone commercialising some of those profiles.

A surprising number of people have already built up hardware that very nearly matches Rodney's suggestions.

I'm not saying people won't like these profiles. I am hoping that as people modify them for their various hardware configurations that they share what changes they made so others may benefit.

Speaking of hardware, the Race Bass hardware will be open as well. There will be DXF files available for people who want to have tactile plates made on their own , or that can be used as a starting point for their own designs and we would like to have an area for people to share their hardware solutions with others. Lastly there will be an exploding diagram and a parts list for the Race Bass isolation.

There were conversations with Wotever and ButoNz, but that isn't what drove the change in direction.

I'll answer this as transparently as is humanly possible.

We had a big shake up in the core group. Angry words were spoken, and the group almost disbanded.

After a cooling off period, we got together and talked about what it was that we cared about and wanted to accomplish with this whole "Race Bass" thing.

In the end none of us cared about the money aspect and that one thing was causing the most angst, the most ill will from the tactile community and was the most complicated to setup and explain. The whole paywall concept was the topic that caused the most arguments, and I would say flawed rationalizations. As the saying goes, if it quacks like a duck...

So at the end of this we came up with what it was that motivated each of us and what it would take to keep us involved. That is what caused all of these changes.

Even the name Race Bass was debated because of any remaining ill will towards that, but the name also carries some meaning for the user base who see it positively.

We renamed the Discord server "Good Vibrations" to help set a positive tone for sharing and collaborations and as a break from "Race Bass". But we have a Race Bass section within that for the existing Race Bass Users and for others who decide to follow Rodney's hardware suggestions.

There is still work to do and key people are on vacation right now.

We are hoping that there will be valuable trickledown to the whole tactile community from these efforts and depending on the involvement of others maybe even some trickle up with new ideas.

I hope that covers the motivations behind these changes.

The reality of any passion project like this is that the people involved need something to be passionate about if they are going to spend their personal time to make things happen.
