No, i simply took them out and spray painted them.

It's very easy to take appart the button boxes and remove the buttons.:

You have to unclick the back part and loosen 3 screws.
Remove the buttonbox pcb board and you can take out the buttons.

I used: Motip spray paint which you can order in any ral colour

nice. would you happen to have a larger pic of your setup. Im saving all of the pictures of setups I like to get an idea of what I want. My setup is good for now but it just doesnt feel natural.. It feels like exactly what it is. Driving a car in a computer chair.
