Really fun race

Had a late call that i had to jump in for Artitan who had a bad or non functioning internet connection.
Since the practicing was limited my main goal was not to challenge the front runner but to bring home the car to the finish line and hopefully grab some points for team Angle racing.

Since my own skin did not show to the other racers, but looked all right to me, i was also racing with Aritans skin on my car if someone thinks i looks strange.

In practice a managed a best of 1.19.5 something, but i totally blew it in qualifying and only got a 1.21.0. With that slow time i ended up being placed in a 13'th spot on the grid.

After some racers misfortune on 2'nd (?) lap i ended up chasing my team boss Mark B for some fun clean laps.

Then on lap 6 M Bommel went wide in T1 and was overtaken by some cars, and me as the last one. In T2 then an overenthusiastic Bommel came sliding backwards on the inside in a desperate move to take some places back. He slided backwards in in front of me and i had to brake and hit him some, and that was enough for Terry Harmer who was behind to overtake me.

After that a never ending chase involving me and Terry, and later me Terry and Christopher A, went on forever. It was a really funny, close and fair racing guys. :good:
Somewhere around mid race, and pit stops we lost each other.

After the pitstop, that i had in lap 23, nothing really challenging happened other than i noticed that i was closing in slowly on my boss Mark. We are team mates, i'm a reserve driver, and Mark is my boss so i had no intention at all to overtake him other if he were to make a really big mistake.

Then out of the last corner, when i was just on the rear bumper, Mark suddenly turned right and eased of..... giving me a 8'th spot instead of my 9'th. If i understood Mark correctly he was out of fuel.... bad luck
Anyway... the same points to Angle racing no matter who was in 8'th or 9'th.

Super fun race all, grats to the podium and all finishers a big thanks to the organizers.

I not fast on this series,
Today is fun drive, more guy is so far so good,
Nisse, you fast than me,but, why you only follow me to run ?

Dangit!! :pissed-off:

I don't know how it happened but I slept through my alarm. Bloody hell... this was just the right round for it to happen at too, because judging from Mtommi's screens I could have gotten a podium finish. AT THE VERY LEAST.

I would like to extend my apologies to my team, the Admins, and the rest of RDSTL D2, and commend my teammate Bob for his sportsmanship with Dietmar.

Epic fail from me:beat-up:.

Had managed to get the car feeling really nice during the week and though I don't like the track I felt confident that my setup would atleast help run clean to a good result.

Joined server during practice and the car just felt all wrong and I couldn't put my finger on (literally, but I'll explain that later). It was squirming and sliding and I couldn't get it to feel any better. Christ the car felt better b4 I'd started my setup over a week ago:(.

Took a long time to find it's new boundaries and try to maximize what I had.

Qual: 2nd. I was on a decent lap and though the car felt horrible and I wasn't confident with it I was on for a PB when I dropped a bollock in the 2nd to last turn and only just saved myself from ditching it in the Gravel. It was even more upsetting when I realised I was only just 0.035 off Dans time:curse:.

Race: 8th:beat-up:

Oh what a disaster this was. Got away ok, but was not trusting the car at all. Got into the lead when Dan ran wide on lap 2 and tried to press an advantage, but the car just wouldn't do what I wanted it to do and I kept making little errors. Dan got past a few laps later when I was too deep into turn 4. I tried to push to get back past, but the errors kept coming and Michel was now back past Mtommi and closing. Then it all went wrong when I nearly ran into the back of Dans BMW at the top of the hill and I spun onto the gravel and gave the barrier a little kiss.

By the time pitstops were coming the tyres were not feeling at all good and I nearly went off again on my in lap. I stopped on lap 21 with Dan and when I returned to the track my gap to the front 3 had reduced by a goo 8 seconds. With this slight pick me up I was starting to push with the podium back in sight. I was closing when I hit the self destruct button. First a made a mistake costing me about 10 seconds and then I lost the back end and I knew it was going to be a big hit. I managed to knock the steering out completely and lost the front splitter. I struggled with it for a lap as i had a 30sec advantage over the car behind, but the damage was too bad and the car wasn't turning in at all. I pitted and made a mess as I hurried to change the settings as I was going to take rears and replace the front splitter. As I returned in 8th the car wasn't to bad (well in right handers anyway) and I thought I'd try to close on the car ahead, but I made more mistakes and I very nearly hit the escape button. I new that I needed points so struggled home.

Very annoyed with myself. I knew when I saw the calendar that this would be my worst race, but my setup efforts during the week had boosted my hopes of a podium, but I got something wrong somewhere since last nights practice and I never sorted myself out:(.

So that added insult to injury. Yes the finger pun was because I'd managed to hurt myself putting something together for my daughter and my index finger on my left hand was strapped up. It wasn't much off a problem provided I remembered to let go of the wheel when turning full lock to the right as my finger was sticking out and hitting the shifter on my DFP:excruciating:. Although it had nothing to do with my terrible driving as that was just me messing it up:thinking:.

Well done to Dan and Michel for WSR's 1,2 and to Johan for finishing off the podium:good:.

I'm off to get myself drunk and forget about 2nite.

My best STL race by a mile.

Qualied 9th fninished the race 6th.

First time I made the least mistakes in the entire race. Well chuffed just for that. My team mate and principle Joao Andias qualied 8th and finished 5th.

I spinned early on, Mark overtook went ahead. I started getting into the groove and was battling with Mark. Brilliant racing and close. He made a mistake and passed him. After that it was trying to get the car home. Later during the race Mr Aponte was catching me fast. Started sweating and gripping the wheel tighter lol. Held it to finish 6th.

A massive thanks to Joao for taming these beasts.

Qualy 7th.
Race first laps following Peter Eriksson and Andreas Löffler quite easy,i started apply some pressure on Peter when Martijn crashed in T1 and Bram froze in T2....2 laps later Peter is 0.1 ahead and Andreas anothe .5 or so.Same faith as Bram...my wonderful GTX260 decide i had enough racing tonight and froze maybe 15-20 sec and when it come back the textures are really messed up.
Had a great feeling about this race the last couple of days and the pace i had could have been enough for a podium but....not this time

In the beginning you had no lag ín front of me, so maybe something (any program) went on during the race ?
I guess its the charm of overloaded saturday evening.
Anyway if I will race here again; when someone in my proximity will report me lag I shall withdraw immediately. This should not happen though, as usually my connection causes no problems.

So, what to do when you find yourself with an overall pace deficit around .5 of a second slower than your “usual” pace from practice? Well, you try to figure it out in the event practice itself, if that doesn’t work (has it didn’t), you go to the race ½ way through the grid, relaxed trying to "bring it home" in a decent position helped by some of the front runners attrition as unfortunates to a few is luck to others (a total of 2x disconnections + a T1 exit).

Qualification (8th)

From a PB of 18 low, managed to do a very low 19 … Yes, a 1 second deficit which is equal to an exact midfield start position (8th), 7 cars to the front, 7 cars to the back as unfortunately only 15 cars take part. Teammate grabbed the immediate position with a time slower than his race day event practice time…

Race (5th)

As typed above the final race position is the blunt result of 2 disconnections plus one T1 exit but that obviously doesn’t tell the all history.

The race plan was simple: As here it was almost impossible to overtake without a mistake from the front runner, the plan was to hope for a certain Seat to hold the usual BMW field tight and see what came out of the single pit-stop needed for this race.
Early on the things were going as predicted, or even better as 9 cars were held pretty much together for the first laps. When Abdul (teammate, 9th at the time) made a spin going into dingle dell (T7) I was left as the "last carriage" of the front train with 9th over 6 seconds behind.
That didn’t last long; the Seat driven by Martijn had a long exit at paddock hill (T1). Although most of us climbed 1 position, the front field started to break apart in 2 groups, the two front runners and a train from 3rd to my position (7th now). Not much after, Bram “disco” as 5th, 6th & 7th (me) all pass through a “frozen” BMW on top of Druids (T2) and are promoted one position (I’m 6th now).
Not much time after that, came the single “fright” of this man’s race when 5th (BMW – BR- Hellén) had his “disco”. Not only have I instinctively braked to avoid his frozen car (theoretically one can go over his “frozen” car, but we never know…) but also for a split second one thinks it is he who is disconnecting… but now, with "promotion" number 3, I’m 5th.
So coming the end of the first stint, two groups, 1st & 2nd and another from 3rd to 5th (Andreas, P. Eriksson and me). We all pitted at same time and only Andreas (again) had a different strategy has he came out 7 second in front of us (didn’t change inside tyres I guess).

Although there were no more position gains (mush less change), the 2nd stint was much more fun as not only Eriksson’s Alfa was always much closer but also the race pace went up finely to the pre-race practice times with a good number of high 19 (but again not the mid 19s). As we close in our 1st stint race group partner, Andreas, our car distance was mostly never far from a few hundreds of a second.
Eriksson did only 2 small mistakes, in one of them managed to put him on my side but he had the inside line for the next quick(est) corner. On the other I had to let go of the accelerator or we both would go into the "kitty–liter".

By race finish we all 3 finished very close but about 30 second a drift from 1st & 2nd as 6th (Abdul) came about another 30 seconds behind.

Although my pace wasn’t fully there (specially in the first stint), overall in the end the race didn’t come far from what I expected, the usual fight for 3rd with what can be said now as my usual 5th as a final result (1x 7th, 1x 4th, 3x 5th).

Once again a big thanks to my direct adversaries as it was another fun & clean race specially in the 2nd stint (Andreas and Eriksson). “Special” congratulations to Erikson as he beat me with a car exactly equal to mine. Congratulation to the podium finishers mainly to our new winner Mateusz and a thanks to all who participated as we surely were fewer than usual but "good" :wink2:

Thanks RD and its staff for another fine event :good:

4 things that come up during the event.

Lag
Didn’t have any...
My ping to Eriksson (immediate front runner) was a bit “high” 100 ms but as I’m used to simrace with N & S Americans (150 to 250 ms) it was very far of being a “problem”. All car models were well visible to me (but yes, sometimes with session transitions and a punctual lag from someone a failure to load a car model isn’t uncommon in Evo).
I guess its the charm of overloaded saturday evening.
Anyway if I will race here again; when someone in my proximity will report me lag I shall withdraw immediately. This should not happen though, as usually my connection causes no problems.
Like to Andreas you hadn't any lag to me in practice or at race start, as I didn't saw you after that... :wink2:
Unfortunately, I think Poland together with some other EU countries are in the "black" list of ISP abuse :( "Complain" and better times will come... :wink2:

Paddock hill bend
First I’m a bit sorry for my kind of intempestive reaction during the practice chat…. But this topic comes around everytime we do a league race here.

Instead of fully going about it again, will just say that I can produce photos (just do a forum search) of races in Kent around 2006/2007 where racers fighting for position ware fully over the green paint, weren’t disqualified and more importantly, no one complained.
Yes I know the circuit changed since then and the area is different now (we have Google hearth for that). Also, yes I know that in real live one doesn’t use fully the “green” area “as a system” because of the wall at the end of it… after all, no one likes the possibility of -5G front left side impact :wink2: But as this all virtual… we aren’t that afraid, are we? :D
To me there 2 basic ways of going about that corner… a 5th gear torque based way that implies some (if not all) "green" part and a 4th gear high rpm hp inside line. They are all equally fast as the outside runner will do more distance.
Also to me, like always this would be an important matter if the green part was an inside line, implying a shorter distance and yes, only than it would be a blunt unfair "advantage".
We are going to Istanbul next round, I can tell you that this is a track that would be much more fun to drive/simdrive if it had such “green” parts as Brands. Actually I’m thinking of at least 2 corner exit areas where you will “beg” for such "green" :wink2:

So by my calculations I must have went about 6 times fully over the green part, about 10 times I kept a wheel over the rumble strip the other 28 times I did the inside line. So now that you know it, feel free to complain to staff. :D

GFX "freezes"

...2 laps later Peter is 0.1 ahead and Andreas anothe .5 or so.Same faith as Bram...my wonderful GTX260 decide i had enough racing tonight and froze maybe 15-20 sec and when it come back the textures are really messed up...
Although I can reproduce such unfortunate events (I just have to alt-tab allot and run many things at same time), I’ve went through 9 RD league events recently without a single one. As typed in the chat (practice) I use an old Nvidia driver (18x.x series in GTX275), more importantly, I always reboot my machine 5 minutes before the qualifying session (clean RAM start, both main and GFX). When I’m running a game, as far as “useless” programs running behind, only have the mandatory Steam and G25 wheel profiler, not even display & sound drivers’ useless parasite programs are running (nView, sound help and such).

Even when I had the odd freeze in RD events (6 months ago, early F1 public beta stage), the game always come-back to me… although a GFX reset was needed due to textures corruption (minimize, maximize will do) and sometimes it took full 30 seconds to get back into race (don’t wary your car goes invisible to others as you are frozen just avoid giving more impute and get ready to go on the brakes).

A final thing regarding this, the above is not the same as the “ghost” connection problem or even worst, a full server "disco"…

D1, 15 race starters
What can I say… EndUrance team as presented itself always at its maximum permitted strength, with Tobias taking part in the first 2 races in replacement of Abdul and Andias doing them all so far. Apart from the odd power grid & ISP failure, to be honest I fail to fully undertand how teams of 4 drivers fail to have 2 racers on the grid, but I do admit that ultimately it isn’t something that important as this is all entertainment, but…. We also must not forget, that a few other people are giving us their free time to run these events...

As our team is concerned, we could have field 3 racers both in Estoril and here, and you can guess that I’m not very "fond" of explaining to replacement driver (who liked Brands) that there wasn’t place for him to race in a 15 racers grid… as typed by Yoeri in other topic, something to review for a future season I’m sure.

Cheers & thanks :wink2:

...

Nice report Joao but this time i did no "other" strategy. It was only possible to pit in lap 21 or 22 for a 1 stop strategy.
We all go in (You, me and Peter) and i had about 2 sec gap to Peter before the stop, i change all tyres and could increase the gap in the first rounds after pit to Peter with new tyres.
But i think i was to agressive because in the end i couldn´t go the speed of you, only 20 high or 21´s - also a little mistake in turn 2 cost me time and so i was lucky as i could go with 1 sec to Peter in last lap which was enought to keep P3 with a clean lap.

I´m glad to next round and hopefully again with Martijin and Mikael in our fight, always great racing.

Didn't have many freezes in race games at all actually, but it is a problem as it happens in other games more often.I just don't seem to be able to find a pattern but i will try to go back to the driver you say and also do the reboot before each event.
So thx for the tips João.

Yes Jan,I'm very sorry for that.Usually i'm not that overenthusiastic but because of that major crash i lost some parts on the car and it was just undriveble and unpredicteble.
I never even intended to overtake you but the second i touched the brakes i was a passenger in my own car.
I've spon practicly in every corner that lap trying to get back to the pits, and it wasn't because of my high speeds but the car was just in a terrible chape.
I hope it didn't messed up your race to badly.

Again sorry Peter for lagging in front of you.
For me it was all smooth and usually I dont have problems even with large grids.
Did anyone else had this problem with my car?

Yes,you were lagging really bad."Luckely" for me i was 1 lap down so i didn't had to push and try to overtake you.
For Peter it must have been an scary view, not to be able to get close enough to even think about some overtaking move.
