I'm having some difficulty with skinning for the RACE 07 series lately, specifically STCC 2. The BMW 320si and Accord models are giving me particular fits.

I use a Mac, with Photoshop CS4. I have to run the flattened PSD file through a program called SquishDDS, which has usually worked pretty well for me in the past. But lately, it seems I can't get any of the settings to work properly. Every time I try to load the skins ingame, I get this error:

Failed to load texture 'C:\Users\Jim\Documents\SimBin\RACE 07\CustomSkins\Team Kamikaze ATCC\77_Eagan_BMW_320.dds' for car [BMW 320si 2009]
Failed to load texture 'C:\Users\Jim\Documents\SimBin\RACE 07\CustomSkins\Team Kamikaze ATCC\77_Eagan_BMW_320_WINDOW.dds' for car [BMW 320si 2009]

I've already created skins for the RACE 07 series with this method several times over with no difficulties. Even the ones I recently did for the STCC2 Volvo C30 had no problems. Does anyone else use SquishDDS on a Mac? Any suggestions? I can send any and all files you need to help me diagnose my problems.

Thanks.

Update. Even with the Template you sent me Marcel i am still getting the same issue... So i am thinking that it is my PC specs that is causing this problem and not the templates.....

I am Running an ATI Radeon 4350 512mb G/C and 3 gigs of ram and think this is the reason why...

So thanx to all for the help...

There are several software suites that are capable of this (3DSMax, Maya and other open source programs) but you'll need additional files in order to see the models in 3D. Luckily there are many rendering scenes available for download, I myself am working with 3DSMax and once you've got it setup correctly it is waaay easier than booting up the game constantly. The only time I go ingame is to race with my new skins. I added an example of a rendered STCC2 car.

If anyone wants to learn more feel free to send me a pm.
Cheers.

Can you recommend any open source 3D model programs? And what extra files are needed? I downloaded trueSpace as that seemed to come up several times as being a good open source program, and I downloaded a model for the Cruze, but I have no idea what files I need and what to do to get the Cruze model/skin showing up!

I go into an open practice on Sachenring or Alpine Hills (because the cars sit in the open, ie no garages to obscure the sides and rear) Then Alt-Tab out and work in Photoshop. Save, Alt-Tab back into Race and I think the shortcut is Ctrl-F5 to reload the skins.

I have been having some trouble with this method lately in that PS sometimes lags, but it works well enough for me though I never try anything too complex.

I usually do that, except just on the car loading menu instead (if you go back a couple of steps then minimise, then when you go back on the updated skin is loaded)

The only thing is with my laptop the graphics are poor, so the skins don't look brilliant, and for some reason the STCC Cruze skin in the car selection screen is incredibly blurred (usually the cars look like they should on a good PC in-game on my car selection screen). So it's hard to get a good idea of what the skin looks like on my Cruze.

I've got most of it done in Photoshop. Just can't get the DDS plugin to work and the deadline is today for skins. However I don't think with my slow moving skill set I could get it done before the end of the day today. Would someone be willing to help me polish it up if I send you the PSD file? Still need the windows sorted with the correct logos to suit the league requirements.

I am trying to make a team of cars using the same model, I am Using the Alfa's and wud like to have them all as the same paint scheme and under the same name. But my Problem is I don't know how to get the folders right so would like some help with this..

Thanx

Finally got the DDS plugin to work. Seems my CS4 didn't like the 64bit plugin but works fine with the 32bit. Now to get the window banners and logogs sorted and test it in the game to see what it looks like. I suspect it'll be rough looking the first time and will need some polishing.

Yes i have done that m8 and i have the same problem as i have had with the 156 GTA Template...
i have managed to sort the 156 GTA template out and now having issues with the 156 Template and keep gettin a square on the boot of a diff colour..
but thanx for the info David

Its supposed to be the toe rope you can see it on the 2007 Alfa Romeo DDS file but its not shown on the template - the mapped area is the top right of the template just above the underside of the hood.
