Modding Questions Thread

Hello everyone, I downloaded a mod to lower the GRIP and make the game more realistic and I think this works well, but I would like to lower it a bit more, the file to edit is this surface_materials.xml, but 'I do not know if the values you have to lower them or increase them. THANKS sorry for my bad Inglese.

Thank you for the reply, very helpful. Does the virtual_performance relate to how fast the cars/drivers are? Is it only for career or can I test changes in grand prix mode also for both ai and teams.

Well I only play in career mode so I'm speculating, but virtual_performance will have an effect on how fast the drivers are in relation to each other I think, as will speed_in and speed_out. Lowering a driver's wet weather ability slows them down when it starts raining, that's for sure.

If you are looking to slow down or speed up the entire field though, then editing the ai_track_difficulties files found in tracks/difficulties and track/difficulties/era (year) is the way to go.

In 2012 I never found much evidence that virtual_performance affects the speed or reaction noticeably. But decreasing or increasing speed_in and speed_out makes a huge difference.

Wouldn't altering the race_grip under the trac_model setting in the database be easier?

Anyway, with your question: Looking at the surface_materials file, it says grip for grass is 0.850 and tarmac 1.000, so higher value=more grip, lower value=less.

Yeah, virtual performance makes less difference, but you can really f**k things up messing around with the speed_in, speed_out too much. Andi should make a backup of the database anyway though I suppose.

Super Big thanks :) then I have to lower only these two values? or all the values of the tarmac / grass? because there are so many of tarmanc / grass.

Have an issue in Monaco race, in one the lastest turns the AIs drive to fast and they crash, what can i do?

@uv316 @Melphiz Thanks again guys. I was pretty much looking to make a mod (I guess you can call it that?) for myself and might release if its any good that was more realistic to real life with car and driver performance. I'll have a fiddle around with those values when I can and see what I can find out.

Been doing the same myself for the last few games. Yes, it's possible to make the teams/drivers more accurate to real life but keep in mind if you're wanting to play a career then the tier changes each season always screw things up and make it totally unrealistic imo. I wish CM would get rid of the stupid tier system, I hate getting past the first season and the teams have all shuffled, just makes things more of a guess when choosing to move. I'd just like to be able to keep the performances as is and progress my way up the grid into guaranteed quicker cars.

Didn't do this myself in 2012, so asking about 2013: is it possible to edit camera files on the fly?

Change something in the file, re-encode it to BXML and have the changed camera right away without having to restart the game. :)

You're welcome mate.

Hi, I downloaded the mod which placed Senna in the Lotus 98T a while ago but now that the Mclaren mod has been released I'd like to make it so that the Lotus 98T has the drivers that originally came with the game, does anyone have the original files for the Lotus 98T, any help would be much appreciated!

I'm not quite sure what you're asking. Do you mean that y you want to make it so that it is possible for you to compete with the top ten in races in a Torro Rosso or the like? There are only really two ways to do this with the database, mess around with things like engine power (which you say that you don't want) or slow down the speed of the a.i in the track difficulties files.
