Michael Schumacher

well performance-wise they're going backwards this season, so they're not getting their money's worth on him apparently pushing the team forward.
The team have openly said they're looking to build the team around Rosberg too, so why have such a high-profile Number 2 Driver in Schumacher??

I remember when Rosberg said its not possible to do better results than they do now. Why Schumacher would be n°2? Because I trust he is there for making Mercedes better. And that he loves racing in F1 and he wont find better opportunity right now. If he can improves, or help with, Merecedes, there is no reason for leaving. He has a lot of money, he can takes it just like a hobby now

And that's great for Michael.
But unfortunately I doubt Mercedes are there to accomodate a Sunday driver who races for a hobby.

Mercedes should be a top 3 or 4 team, but they're not.
I fail to see, if Michael's influence is so valuable and useful to the team, how they're not doing better.
My conclusion is that he doesn't have what it takes any more and his influence and 'presence' isn't all its cracked up to be.

If he wants to help the team grow, be an advisor. Move over and let someone else drive the car.

Works for him.
Not so sure it works for the team.
The teams don't operate for the benefit of the drivers. The drivers operate for the benefit of the team.
Mercedes don't need to and shouldn't be accomodating Schumacher just because he 'enjoys driving the F1 car'.

as I said, i think he provides a lot of material to the team... thats why they keep him there, otherwise there is no reason ...
Imagine this.

Michael as a Advisor for the team, giving his input and helping out in Practice Sessions (maybe) feeling how the car is, this way he has freed up a seat for Di Resta and will still help improve the car, input from 2 driver's and a 7 world champion, now that is going i nthe right direction but right now, no it isn't.

It's Brawn and Haug who are keeping Michael in, they have the vision that they can create another Schumacher Ferrari-esque era where they build a car over a certain amount of years.

Michael and Nico have been very even this year and it's quite easy to see, although due to silly mistakes Michael is behind on points, but if you watch the actual driving, you'll see over the race Michael is faster, if he stops losing wings and spinning, Michael can consistantly finish 5th - 8th.
I guarantee it.
Take Silverstone for example, he was flying through the field until he lost traction and plowed into Kobayashi, and Hungary, 4th after the first corner from way down the top ten..

There's still alot to come from Schumacher and i know people are giving up already but i see what they're trying to build.

Yup, And in Canada to not forget where he got killed by the DRS which i think was unfair because he deserved a podium if you compare his car too the Mclaren from button and Webber's red bull, he did a much greater job than they did. If they could modify the Mercedes to a very similiar car which he had in his winning career he would definitely be better than vettel. Schumi has to get used to the car, yeah he has been in for almost 2 seasons but come on!? He raced for almost 20 years in F1 and the cars they used then weren't anything like the cars from these days, not to mention the very old ones. So I gotta give him credit to race like this with this kinda car. Der Meister will be on the top again sometime!

I think there's a lot to come from him in terms of knowledge, but not in terms of driving performance.

i think if you put michael in vettel's car we would see michael's ferrari years all over again. i know that some of you would say that the same could be said for most F1 drivers, but i feel that is not entirely the case. it takes more than just a great car, it takes a great driver as well, and michael is that. i think schumi still has couple of good races left in him.

Dude, he wouldnt win the world championship. He may be able to lead the technical direciton of the team, but he's not fast enough to win consistantly even in the fastest car. For example, because he and Rosberg are in the same car, we can easily assess their current criving abilities against each other, and Rosberg is faster. So if he was in the fastest car, his team mate would probably be faster.

He WAS a great driver, but i havent seen anything yet to convince me that he still is.

Hold on, Schumacher vs Rosberg in 2010, yeah Rosberg obliterated Schumacher but in 2011, not on points but in general racing speed they've been equal.
Schumacher is usually infront of him out of the first corner, and usually if Schumacher doesnt crash or have a penalty/technical problem, he beats nico.
Take Monaco for instance, Schumacher passed Rosberg, at Silverstone (which i was actually at, Stowe corner) every single lap Schumacher was closer to Rosberg until he plowed into Kobayashi's arse.
If he can just sort out his accident-prone-ness he could beat Rosberg.
