Is VR dead?

if you wear contacts rather than using inserts, that the glare is better
Long time eyeglass wearer here; for lenses of comparable optical quality,
contacts should always be better than lenses at some distance:
  • one less air-lens interface
  • lens nearer illumination source encounters more scattered rays and glare opportunities
Disclaimer from someone with poor reflexes in real life and limited experience with refresh rates > 60Hz:
  • Perceived smoothness is strongly affected by so-called black frame insertion
    • e.g. one- vs three- blade movie projection shutter

  • faster pixel response times for the same refresh rate seem smoother
  • sufficiently fast pixel response time and brightness enable black frame insertion
  • whether black frame insertion enables better reflex responses is (to me) unknown...

I was just looking at the types of replies that come under VR Headset reviews.

1. This is too expensive. It should be $500 ( or some other price )
2. I'd buy this if ( it was a completely different headset (insert my favorite changes here))
3. I'm still using my (old headset of some kind) and I'm waiting until a really big improvement comes along.
4. Why can't someone make a headset with everything I want?
5. Can't wait to get mine ( followed by some happy stuff if the review said nice things about that headset )
6. Your priorities are wrong, or my experience has been different ( If they just said bad things about your headset )
7. You should all save your money until (some new headset arrives) because it will be better than all of these.
8. I can't afford a PC to drive this thing.
9. I love your reviews.
10. They should just do (ignorant rambling) to fix the ( issue )
11. I'm looking at this headset and this other headset, what should I get?
12. Should I replace ( my headset ) with this new headset ? Is it that much better?

I say this fully realizing that I also like reviews that say nice things about something I've chosen and find it funny when other products I don't like are talked negatively about. This is even when I'm not sure that the other products are being given an honest shake.

FWIW, I think it is a bit obvious that given that the Bigscreen and Crystal are polar opposites from each other in terms of design choices, such that someone like Norm can feel very strongly that one is the wave of the future and then dismiss the other as being what we don't want.

This really is becoming a Bigscreen vs. the world situation.

To be fair Bigscreen has confused the market and brought many design decisions into question and it took some balls to make something that is so radically different from everything else.

Their timing was bad for newly released and about to be released headsets. Because they are so different, they end up making everything else look the same.

Next to a BSB, the Aero, Crystal and VR1 seem very much like same ole same ole even if there are differences between them. The BSB is way over here and they are way over there clustered together.

It will be very interesting to see if Valve creates something different enough, that they create so new point making this a triangle vs. a here and there.

BTW it looks like VR flight Sim Guy is starting to play with OpenXR settings to maximize the MSFS appearance. So he has started to add complexity. I don't think I'll bother with that, but I know that is part of what he does on his channel.

He also said that it seems like MSFS has worse glare than he is seeing in other titles.

I quit subscribing to "Consumer Reports" after realizing that I disagreed with every review about products with which I was familiar; why accept their ratings of others?
Find reviewers with whom one shares criteria (prejudices).

It took an application (Big Screen) for which they understood requirements.

50% price drop, they must be trying to sell out the current stock before a successor is announced i guess
Let's hope so, it would be a shame if a company like Varjo could only compete on the price with company like Pimax. If you told me that 2 years ago then I wouldn't even have believed you. So yes let's hope that the come up with a new model soon.

Honestly, how complex is it? By default you can do nothing, if you want there are a few things that may be useful. Being able to adjust the colour balance can be good especially in msfs. In racing having the sunglasses can be useful although I understand that is a built in feature of the bsb anyway.

Lol
I received a message from Israel Post (EMS) that the package I have returned to Pimax is returning to me because Pimax refuses to pay the customs, $370 in China. They even sent me a request to pay them, but of course I refused. I have already received the full refund from PayPal.

Why customs fee on return product, that is off, perhaps shipping declaration wasn't filled right.
