Guys, I'm looking at upgrading my G25 shifter to the Lightning SST unit. Will iRacing allow me to just plug in the SST into another USB port and when running through the controller configuration in iRacing, just select the SST when choosing the gears. I still want to leave the G25 shifter connected so I can utilise the buttons it has.

Is it as simple as that or am I missing something?

Cheers,

Grant.

I would have thought that would work fine, you can just bind whatever you want to either the SST shifter or the G25 one. I recently got a Bodnar box for my G25 pedals which makes them standalone, iRacing works fine with them that way too so I would think it should all work :)

Thanks James,

A couple of guys over at the iRacing forums have also confirmed they are running the exact same setup and it all works fine together.

Cheers,

Grant. :)

Not much of an incentive really, I generally subscribe for 3 months at a time for flexibility due to work commitments/real life. I'll probably do it for the run up to Christmas once my new wheel arrives and do a bit of practice for when I have more time over the holiday period.

Great video's there! David Kaemmer looked very uncomfortable for the first part of his presentation like the stereo typical genius behind a great development/invention but who doesn't like being in the spotlight :) It was good to show just how far they have come while also making the point that David Kaemmer had come full circle and the video illustrated that perfectly. I remember back then playing Indy 500 and thinking it was the most realistic sim I'd ever played but looking at it now...wow lol. But then we can laugh now but where will we be in another 20 years? will we be replacing sentences like "well back then PC's generally only had a tiny speaker to produce sound" with "well back then PC's only had those old flat screen's to show the track and car and not the holographic projections we have now"

I think Justin Wilson's assessment of iRacing speaks volumes for how accurate iRacing really is. I play on three different systems including a PC, PS3 and 360. iRacing has spoilt other racing sims for me now because the tracks do feel so alive because of the accuracy of the laser scanning.

I have a similar problem... the tracks are so well modelled that I hate going back to an inaccurate version on Evo or rFactor, thankfully most of the tracks are in the USA and we run more Euro tracks at RD (at least in the races I join).

I don't want to turn this into a 'Sim A vs Sim B' discussion but thats my problem with the current selection of sims. rFactor is a great product to mod but its getting a bit long in the tooth and many of the tracks are conversions from even older sims based on not only much more innacurate data to start with but also limited to what the technology was at the time so the starting point is very flawed. Unfortunately for me there are far too few scratch built tracks. Things will change, I remember sims boasting about the accuracy of their new tool - GPS and sims are now starting to look at laser scanning, developers such as Codemasters for their F1 game for example. iRacing will have to work hard at not only keeping pace with the boxed sims but also going that little bit further to justify people's subscriptions.

Hopefully we will get a sim that costs a similar price to Evo but has the accuracy of iRacing, will be a few years off though I would think. What we really need is a combination of the other sims to compete with iRacing - rFactors modding community, netKar Pro/LFS physics and Simbins tracks/presentation :)

Well guys I've ordered my SST Shifter. I ordered it from the Aussie distributer for Sim-Gear, "Troyton Racing" :aus:. They have a nice option with a custom stainless steel gear knob to replace the one that ships on the SST, it was a $20 upgrade so I added that as well. Here's a pic:

They have a wicked simulator built up from some very high end gear, check out the their website, it had me drooling. (Maybe when my Lotto numbers come up!)

IRL addon

Played it this past weekend at Infineon, using both Indy motorspeedway and infineon, I must say im very excited for this to be released :). Indy cars were a bit of a handful comming off of the corners, but that could be from racing on the g25 and not my normal wheel I have here at home.
