Ok, after a surgery, I'm back!!! Actualy, I'm gonna be back next week, I hope.

Before the surgery, I had my 1st oval racing (EVER in my sim life!!!) with the legends and I must say I liked it!!! I'm hoping to hame some more fun this week... Gotta go get the skip also... Still on rookie under 3.0... :( But it's ok, I just started, only 1 day playing... :)

The shifter with the added stainless knob was $270.00 (AU) including postage. That is about $228.00 (US) equivalent. I'm hoping I'll never have to buy another shifter after this one, by all accounts they are built like a tank.

Cheers,

Grant :)

You need to race a lot and also to be the champion you'll need a high iRating to race in the higher strength of field race splits, that way you'll get more points :)

I don't pay too much attention to points really, I had two great races today, just because of the battles I had.

I agree with everyone who said that after iRacing, they were spoilt for other games :)

But as for the rating for racing series, they calculate an average, so if you finish 1st only one time per week, you get a perfect score every week :)

Read the manual for more on that (at work maybe, when you can't race).

Its a shame that you can just race once and end up top in the standings - perhaps you should have to do 3 or 5 races before you end up in the standings, that way people would have to finish high consistently, not just once.

iRacing to launch "Hosted events"

Ever since the introduction of the iRacing online simulation, a frequent feature request has been the ability to run leagues and private races - A demand that iRacing answers now by introducing “Hosted iRacing”.
Hosted iRacing turns regular iRacing subscribers into Series Hosts, all that’s needed is a PQR (Practice/Qualifying/Race) package that is available for $3 per package. The package allows the host to open a session that can be customised to any need with various settings including car, track, type of race, min/max iRating/safety rating and more. Each session consists of practice, qualifying and race of adjustable length.

Do my eyes deceive me or do they charge €3 for each session set up? :/

I think its a fair compromise. They cannot allow the regular series to run low on numbers so the price tag means only those serious about running their own events will do so. Leagues can get together, pay into someone's PayPal and cover the cost with ease, say 12 in a league and the costs become peanuts. I'm cautious about them allowing private hosting anyway bcause of the effect on the 'arrive and drive' series they have now. Time will tell how well it all pans out.

To be honest once they bring in the 60 race sessions for $150 thats a full years league plus 8 more events for 2.50 dollars a race. Id be willing to bet thats a lot cheaper than dedicated hosting like the guys do here.
Ok you still have the standard fees on top of that so still gonna be too much for some.

I think gamers in general are too used to getting the game for 30 - 50 and someone else forking out for all the servers that they get the use of for free mostly.

Personally I dont want the hosted servers in iRacing but if it works out and brings in more people im all for that. Might even get more people around my skill level, so i might have a chance of winning something :)

It's not expensive for sure, but for us, and lots of other communities, that already have their own servers running its still not what we have asked for. Only again an extra fee for them.

Too bad they aren't really listening :(

Its very interesting for teams/clans that don't have their own servers, as 3 bucks per race is a reasonable price.

For only an event it sounds not that expensive. But what if your racingteam/club likes to practice together 3/4 nights a week. Then the costs will be very high since the package is only practice/qual/race once.

Stupid thinking of iRacing.!

What were you hoping for Bram? a dedicated server package maybe? If so I think that would be an unrealistic wish. I think its unfair to say they aren't really listening as this new part of the service is a direct result of people asking for league support. To me it seems to be the best compromise. I let my subscription lapse at the start of the summer but plan to take it up again when I have more time. That time is close but because of this news I am going to sit it out and see what happens as I don't want to pay to sit in what could be empty servers. Even if a lot of leagues don't go to iRacing you'll still have the general populous trying out their own hosting just because its a new feature.

Three nights a week for a year is $468, if you split that between a group of say 12 racers in a league thats $39 each for a years racing with none of the hassles or running a server but all of the positives that iRacing has. Things change though, in another year they may be another sim that comes along that can offer what iRacing does but with its own dedicated server package anyone can host.

I just tried it last night. This season is the last time I can use it for building up SR for my Class B qualification. It is great fun actually. More so, IMO, then the Skippy. If Ben decides to submit a setup for this, I'm sure it will feel even more rewarding. :)

As usual with open wheelers, I'm quite slow. Managed 1.29s in TT. Another night in practice, I feel comfortable that I can get that down to 1.27-1.28s. How far off am I? Let's just say Sander does 1.19s. :D
