Petros, to say that iRacing is a MMORG is "a bit" wrong. I to did have some issues at first with the pricing model, but as I've witnessed how they constantly and continuously develop and adds content I'm now at ease with it.

You can be sure on that iRacing will be around for some time, and that the developers wont drop it in favor for any new projects ( like SimBin with the GTR and the Race series)

Kind regards,
Karl

i have always been an f1 fan, this is some exciting news. cant wait to take it for a spin. I really enjoyed 1979 for Rf on the of hardest mods i have tried, we will see how iracing brings it to life.

Karl. I think you misunderstood my post. I didn't say it WAS an MMORG. I asked WAS IT and MMORG? If it was an MMORG that was played solely online without any offline play, then I could understand the monthly subscription, just like the majority of MMO's out there, you have a monthly subscription. But to make a casual racing game that is not an MMORG have a monthly subscription is a bit much. Its like ISI making rFactor a monthly subscription game, or Simbin doing the same to race07/GTR Evo. Its just ludicrous if you ask me. I don't see the reason why I should pay a monthly fee to play an offline game that has capabilities of racing online just like any other game in the market thats free to play offline and online. No matter how good the game is, no game is worth paying a monthly fee when there are others just as good or better that offer you great racing for free. All you need to do is buy the game and or expansions to your desire. But again thats my view on this matter, you might turn around and say well this supports the company. Well...they could find much better ways to gain support, the monthly fee doesn't come across to the player as supporting the company, it comes across as screwing the player over to be able to play the game. I know that the future isn't bright for PC gamers as many companies are starting to delve into the monthly subscription prices, so I say thank god for companies like simbin and ISI who do not do that, because I can guarantee it will be the end of race-sim's if that does happen in the future.

I've heard mixed reviews for iRacing, I have not yet tried it myself due to my time constraints, but the majority of people I speak to say its lacking content and the thrill of driving and imersion is just not the same as other games. I don't know how true it is but for a game that expects people to pay monthly subscriptions, they need to consider upping the game content that the community feels is missing, to entice them to pay to play. But again, pay to play is not the way for race-sims to go. But again thats my view.

Petros, please understand that I wasn't attacking you in any way or form :) You're entitled to have any view or opinion that you like.

All I'm saying is that iRacings business model is fine by me, as I'm used to "own" services that I pay monthly/quarterly/yearly for - it's not a biggie...

The flip side to the SimBin way is that they can, and will, stop any development whenever they like. All we can hope for is that they'll release something new and improved to replace the old game. If you summarize the total for all the Simbin games including the add-ons and compare it to the yearly subscription fee for iRacing, you'll soon realize that iRacing isn't that expensive after all.

I agree that you're free to buy any game or add-on you wish to have, and the same goes for the iRacing content. If you don't like oval racing (like me) then don't buy the ovals nor the NASCAR type of vehicles. Mind you, the iRacing "add-ons" are a one time fee.

Regarding other peoples opinion about the actual iRacing experience. The majority of the critics have only used it for a few days or at the most a month - many of them haven't actually tried it themselves! I prefer to base my opinions on my own experiences. The first time I tried iRacing I thought that it was lacking, mostly in the speed awareness area. But, after sticking to it and giving it a fair chance I now feel that rFactor and the other ISI based titles are way behind and aren't really simulators but more of a "game". It's also very refreshing and intoxicating to know that the rendered track is a minute and fully accurate replication of the real thing - not a designers interpretation.

Like with any racing sim (or game) you need to tweak the settings to get the most out of it. It seams to me that quite a few critics have installed iRacing and thought it would work right out of the box- a foolish and naive way of doing it! For instance, to get the graphics to work you need to disable the shadows (if you don't have a über-monster-kill-'em-all type of PC). It took me a weekend to get the steering wheel and the FFB to work correctly... this is also true for both GTR, Race and rFactor, but for some strange reason a lot of people appear to demand more of iRacing than what they've done before with "the others"...

Before you shout out any criticism, subscribe for a month and give it a proper go. Who knows, you might actually like it...

Hi Karl, oh I know you were not trying to attack me or anything :) Its all good bro.

I guess I just have a sour tooth when it comes to p2p racing games.

As for iRacing, I did get a free invite but I didn't use it mainly due to time. Having to run my own group I spend about 15 hours a day, 7 days a week managing and working so I hardly ever get any time to play.

I never judge a game from other peoples reviews and especially not from the reviews of game sites like Gamespot and IGN. If I don't try a game for myself I do not judge it. Thats why I was more curious on the p2p aspect of iRacing rather then it being my own oppinion. Maybe when I get iRacing I will see why the p2p aspect is reasonable but then maybe I won't. Who knows.

I also have to agree that those critics will more then likely be those players who have only played the game a few times and let it go. Those players who have become so delusioned with game physics from rFactor and other games that they wouldn't know a real sim if it hit them across the face.

I didn't want to come accross as bashing iRacing so I hope you didn't get me wrong with my other posts. I'll just have to try iRacing myself and see how it appeals to me. :)

Hi Petros,

Isn't this such a lovely forum to be in :) All warm and cuddly and we're all being friendly and respectful to each other :grouphug: :D (overcoming language barriers and cultural differences)

(seriously) Give iRacing a try once you get the time or chance, worst case scenario is that you'll lose $20 which I'm sure you'd lose anyway on some thing else...

FYI...

I cancelled my subscription today. My time is somewhat limited and have to decide where to spend it. I might go back someday, but it wasn't really drawing me in and seemed more like work than fun. Then again, they don't market it as a game or entertainment...

Thanks Simon.

I am a little short on money right now, but in a month or two i think i will buy it, because i am quite tired of SimBin and it would be nice to try something new...

I was beta tester... very briefly before my PC started to lock up from overheating. I was fortunate enough to download all of the cars and tracks before I had my technical difficulties.

Just from the brief testing I did on couple of the tracks really sold me. The realistic feel and the quality of the content is superb and even though it's still somewhat missing some features, there is certainly huge potential. I haven't subscribed yet but will do so soon when the new PC arrives.

Sebring International Raceway just released

Sebring has been released.

September 17, 2008 - Sebring Now Available!
One of America's most historic road courses, Sebring International Raceway http://members.iracing.com/membersite/member/TrackDetail.do?trkid=95, is now available to all members of iRacing.com. Sebring is the first of three Panoz Motor Sports Group facilities that will be offered to iRacing members.

Built on the site of a World War II bomber pilot-training base in Central Florida, Sebring has since 1952 been host to an annual, 12-Hour sportscar endurance race. The facility includes three configurations, the 3.7-mile circuit used for the Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring round of the International Motor Sports Association's American Le Mans Series, as well as the shorter test loop and the club circuit. All three configurations are available to iRacers for $25.

Tradition hangs in the air at Sebring like the scent of the neighboring citrus groves, and if iRacing's version of the track were any more authentic, you could walk next door and pick the oranges.

Yea i guess it will be a while before its in a series, so for us that are using it more like a game it means we cant race it for a while.

But if you race real life in America then releasing the tracks as built is good for you to get track time and learn the layout.

I guess it all depends on how you use the sim. Personally I want to buy it because I like Sebring but im not going to until its in a series I want to race. And that could be a while away as i have still much to learn in the Skippy and then the mazda maybe.
