AC GT3 @ Monza - Sunday 7th February 2021

Assetto Corsa Racing Club event
Is there a particular technique or line involved in driving through the 2nd variante (or is it just "step on it" early and hold on for dear life whispering "hail Mary's" as you exit?)?

Speaking of setups I have been toying with the AMG all week. I had a stable setup, but last night I ignored Kunos' whack damper settings, and adjusted them using my understanding of how dampers work. I managed to tame the twitchy rear end of the otherwise stable AMG, and while I may not go faster there is more confidence when the car feels more planted.

Sway bar = anti roll bar?
Softer = less jumping on kerbs for example and more grip in general but the car is more wobbly, leaning more so more difficult to control.
Or easier, when it's too stiff and jumping on kerbs.

Don't forget that front and rear ARB's have the opposite effect when going up and down :)

No still don’t get it, the reference was too kerbs and ARB.

the up and down bit.

Now I'm confused too... @Enzo Fazzi? :roflmao:

I hope he just meant up = stiffer, down = softer.
I had too stiff arbs on my Ferrari and it went flying through Ascari when I dared to touch a kerb.
Then I lowered both arbs quite a bit and now I can mash over them. Still losing time but not insta-spinning anymore :p

I try to hit apex on the very left on entry so that you can go full throttle as early as possible without hitting sausage kerb or getting one wheel into gravel.

Wow, what a race. One of the closest I can remember for absolutely ages, @Enzo Fazzi, @Aksu and me doing basically the same pace for the entire race. Enzo definitely deserved the win, the main reason I was able to stay ahead of him in the second stint was traffic or it would have been game over :coffee:

@Enzo Fazzi, super good pace in sector 1 especially. I thought I was pretty good there, but you just destroyed me

Stint 1 (softs, 50% fuel): took the lead at the start and held on for a few laps until I made a mistake and Enzo closed in. Held on for for another 25 minutes or so, but just couldn't get past. Tried to do the undercut, which worked.

Stint 2 (softs, 50% fuel): Aki chose to do the 1xsofts GT-R strat, so he took the lead when Enzo and I pitted. I came out ahead of Enzo, but it was really close, and Enzo got unlucky passing some backmarkers and lost a few seconds. I eventually caught Aki, but couldn't pass, which resulted in a 3-wide sandwich into turn 1, which went about as well as you expect ;)

After that my tyres just absolutely died and @Aksu got to see me go full save at Parabolica.

Good result from my perspective, I knew it was going to be tough to keep ahead of the cars which are better on the straights, so I'm just happy to have had some lead laps and mostly matched their pace :) That was a lot of fun.

Shout out to @Aksu for bringing back the vintage classic GT-R 1x softs strategy, haven't seen that for a while! :D

Thank you very much mate - I really try to do that - but I still have no feeling for where the sausages are so I either leave lots of unused track or I hit them - I just love the way AC simulates all this stuff -its really really immersive.

Do you hit apex 1 and then floor it ?

@boomRoasted. Sorry about lap 1 turn 2. My replay starts after that part so not sure exactly what happened. First time using crewchief. I thought Spotter said I had someone on my left which I think I did but then saw helio :(light up to my right. Hate to mess anyone’s race up like that.

My worst ever race, that Lamborghini hates me, then I noticed track temps were
High ambient was 35 deg, who slipped that one in, spent the race trying to look after rear left tyre, failed miserably. Gave it my best shot, but just not good enough.

Chris’s computer must have been heating the whole of Italy.

PS
Saw @Interslice Brian dramatically go off in front of me, then shot though the short cut flat out, that’s when I realized it was not going to be good for me too. :roflmao: :roflmao:

I was on softs both stints with like aero 2 ... I never had so much fun :D

I dont get it!!!!!!!! How hard is it to make push to talk on TS!!! How hard is it to not overtake on the outlap for qualyfying!! How hard is to not race the guy who is lapping you!!!
Someone missing the pits and going in reverse to get there was the icing on the cake. That would've been black flag in a real race right away. Shame that you got caught in that incident, it was nice battling you. I couldn't see anything behind that thicc GT-R butt

What a race again with a nice comeback this time. Qualified 12th. Just wasnt fast enough today.
First couple of laps I needed to really push it to stay in contact with Cornelius and not get overtaken by Rasmus. A little punt and a mistake in the same lap afterwards and I was down to 18th... Fought all my way back to P12 again after pits. Second stint was way better. For my personal level of driving I made nearly no mistakes. was in the fight with Cornelius again when we had contact after the second Lesmo going 3 wide. Really sorry if it was me starting the carnage. Besides this two incidents I could really get into my rythem and finish 9th at the end.

Also maybe a little hint to some of the back markers. If you are not in a fight with someone else and not in danger of beeing overtaken from someone else, please lift the throttle earlier at Monza, and not just at the end of the straights. I had multiple occasions this race where it would be way more easy and safer if the lapped car would just have lifted the throttle at the beginning or middle of the straight.

See you all next week again.
