AC GT3 @ Monza - Sunday 7th February 2021

Assetto Corsa Racing Club event
Disappointing :-( On for my best result to date (20th with 7 mins left) and I was suddenly dropped out of the race. Did anyone else suffer the same fate?
Unfortunately, I think you were the only victim of this. I was looking forward to the battle for p20 but I saw you submarine into the track. Sympathies, mate.

@boomRoasted. Sorry about lap 1 turn 2. My reply starts after that part do not sure exactly what happened. First time using crewchief. I thought Spotter said I had someone on my left which I think I did but then saw helio :(light up to my right. Hate to mess anyone’s race like that.
Just watched the replay. No worries, @Marko77 . Didn't ruin just made it a bit harder. ;) I thought it was Gunnar but I ended up taking him out with my spin.

--------
What a race! One of the best yet and even in the backfield, it was close.

A small shunt on lap one put me last but with mistakes and pits ahead of me I managed to finish above my quali into p19. Well done @Goblin616 and @Marko77 for your qual times and bumping me down just before the race giving me no time to challenge back.

@garyb 76 great work keeping the inside line into Lesmo to let me by mid-race.

@jackdyson31 shake off the blue flag jitters, I think you did a fine job.:) Only a couple of times was I unsure of where/what your intentions were. For example, going into Lesmo you took the inside but hesitated and went slightly off track. Keep confident in your line as I had plenty of room to pass on the outside. (I have little room to give blue flag advice as I've only been at this since November last year).

Overall, a fantastic race from start to finish. It's always a great time at Monza! Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend next weekend as I'll be away in preparation for moving house in the spring.

Congrats podiums and as always thanks Chris for putting it together. Have a great week everyone! :D

Hmm. Mixed feelings. Some nice battles in the first stint. In the 2nd stint an orange Nissan ignored the blue flag forcing me to overtake him in Parabolica but he tried to outlap me on straight and outbrake me for T1. We had contact and I got off track with damage and red tyres. As a result of that I lost a couple of places because the car was very unstable after that. But it all didn't matter in the end because in the last lap I was out of fuel in Parabolica.

I think you flipped over me as I was navigating T1. I couldn't believe what I was seeing in my mirrors down the start/finish straight then to see you fly over me...real shame Han.

Pretty uneventful race for me, I had little battles with Marius, Glenn and Mark at different times but spent most of the race on my own once the pack spread out. A nice relaxing race after last weekend!

I 2nd the comments about the basic courtesy not being followed, there is a little bit of "public server" creeping into our races. And if you can't setup something as simple as Push To Talk, you should be banned! Luckily the breathing and clicking stopped for a bit but it came back later in the race.

There is always a live mic issue from someone. If i have time before a race, i will sit on ts for a minute when i hear i need to mute a banger or darth vader! Everyone must have at least one spare button on their wheel? Or even just map it to headlights or something if not.

Don't mean to be adding a moan. I had no noise tonight because i have people muted from the past. This is obviously not what I or anyone wants to be doing.

I dont get it!!!!!!!! How hard is it to make push to talk on TS!!! How hard is it to not overtake on the outlap for qualyfying!! How hard is to not race the guy who is lapping you!!!
I feel with you mate! I watched the replay of the whole race and many situations and can just say you've been the unfortunate man today. There are better races to come, mate.

Just wanted to thank everyone who gave me advice and time these last three days, and made me feel welcome - I have never driven for an hour flat out before and this was definitely a great experience - I had a bit of a headache at the end.

I was happy with qualifying - it was the maximum I was going to get today because I know what my problem is : the exit on the second variante - just not enough time to correct it - I am too slow there.

I tried very very hard to drive a clean race, move right over onto the grass even when being lapped and keep an eye on everything going on around me using Helicorsa and Crew Chief. I was also desperate to keep myself in contention in my group. I made a stupid mistake after a leader had lapped me on the main straight. I was checking the tyres HUD and I assumed he was through the first variante normally - however he got stuck behind a squabble in the chicane and by the time I realised I was going to overshoot I nudged and span him around on the right taillight - he was a Porsche I think. I really apologise to him for that - I just had loads going on as well and made the wrong assumption - I waited in the variante for him to drive away first as per Rule 1.

My pit crew did not put on new tyres and so I drove the entire race on one set of softs on a 60 litres of fuel which was instructive and fun at times - but I tried to keep going as fast as I could, the car was excellent as is AC.

With worn tyres the Lesmo or Ascari exits can really bite hard and I realised a change of line or braking into the corners helps a lot.

Towards the end some aggressive dude behind me in a McLaren was trying it on and so I pulled out what reserve was left to finish.

I learned new things about the car in the race as well - it can brake much later than I was giving it credit for, and hodl the line. Dunno if that is because the track is rubbered in much more ... but I could brake at the 100 m mark on the Ascari and live to tell the tale. Parabolica at 60 m and it would hold up ok.

Lastly if I got in anyone's way - I am really sorry. I'll try harder next time around.

I really loved the race - thank you all for such a positive experience.

:)

PS Anyone notice the slow down in graphics towards the end ?

To be fair with the slower guys, I never had so much traffic at Monza and I was really pleased with the behaviour of the back markers. Sure, I was on the lucky side, to "read" them right but I can imagine it was tough to be lapped so often today.

By the way, what do I win for being first in the consistency ranking? .... Ah... P5

@Chris Down thx for hosting and uploading the results!

...and grats to @Enzo Fazzi, @Aksu and @Chris Down for the podium!!!

Thank you very much mate - I really try to do that - but I still have no feeling for where the sausages are so I either leave lots of unused track or I hit them - I just love the way AC simulates all this stuff -its really really immersive.

Do you hit apex 1 and then floor it ?

I cant floor it 100 percent, its rather a progressive hit on the throttle but definitely not just rolling around the corner.

@boomRoasted Thank you very much mate, any advice you can give me is welcome. Yes the number of blue flags really made me nervous(3 to 4 cars per corner per lap at times). I was trying to move over when I saw leaders on the Helicorsa but my tyres were shot and I was having a hard time fighting understeer on the Lesmo and Ascari exits. I will be more confident the next time. Thanks again! :)

Yeah, that was totally my fault. I didnt realize you were the blue flag car, i figured we were just racing and i was trying to be a good competitor. I really hope that didnt ruin your day too much. I tried my best to be a gentleman driver and not an aggressive jerk. I think i remember you flashing your lights, but didnt realize what that meant. Again, really sorry!!

aside from that, this was unbelievably exiting and fun. The time flew by so much faster than i imagined it would. Seriously, you guys are sooo
good! If anyone has any pointers on how my driving could improve, i would love to hear it. Im still pretty new at thus and dont know a whole lot about racing.
thank you guys for a fantastic day!!

Was great to have you! :)

I just watched how Patrick threw me across T1 (looks pretty hilarious btw but luckily no damage, no spin and just some fast & furious like superboost across straight through it :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao: ).

And then I notices that when a few cars in front of you braked kinda early for T1 and you probably too late, you tried to avoid them across the inside grass.

That's one advice I can give you from experience:
When there's tarmac in front of you, never try to "avoid" on someone's inside. If you would've just went straight through the tarmac emergency gateway (the one I flew through haha), nothing would've happened.

Not blaming you, just a general advice for your future races here with us :)

And while posting this, here's the scariest scene from my race. No blame, just awful situation... One of these moments where a double waved yellow with actually following the flag rules would be great for simracing...
Sorry for the poor AMG I've made flying in circles :barefoot::whistling:

And thanks to everyone for the good race! Some mistakes here and there but overall very happy with P10! Some good battles and overtakes on the track today :)

Hi Chris. I'm over it already. I suggest you use Realtime app. You can see if the car behind you is lapping you. It will be green. White are the cars in the same lap and blue are the cars that a lap behind. See you next race than?

Here a short video with Enzo explaining what to do when you spin.

Had my usual jitterty start before settling into it. I havn't practiced this much for a race in a long while but unfortunately didn't really get many quality battles on the practice server this week.

I misjudged the braking into t1, on around lap 3. The slip from @hf2001 and the other lambo towing him was very strong! So rather than take the two of them out i done the sound thing and ended up back in 16th. Got straight into a nice battle for 15th with @GlennH who was very quick down the straights in his porker. I was able to relax a bit and get the braking points adjusted over about 5 laps until i eventually snook past. I got the bit between my teeth then and gave it everything to get back to where i started on the grid or at least a top 10.

Some good and bad luck arrived. @RasmusP and someone else took each other out at t1..

I caught up to @HF2000 again just before the pit battles. I exited the pit 9 seconds behind... I didn't cop that i was almost the first pit box at the pit entry and skidded past it.

Stint 2, i caught up to cornelius and somehow managed to squeeze it up the middle between him and @jackdyson31 before parabolica. Risked it for a biscuit, but mainly well done from the lads either side.

Thought it was just a matter of bringing it home until @HF2000 spun at t1, or so i thought. I would maybe some sympathy if i had a seen. Instead all i was thinking was, red tyres on that ferrari. Pity you ran out of fuel han. They were 3 good mini battles we had.

Congrats to the podium lads, thanks @Chris Down for organising and see you on the next one.

Needed a stiff drink after!

@RasmusP Thanks a lot for that, just felt like real racing tonight. Yes that is exactly what happened - I tried to use my magical car control skills (not) to impress like Fangio - and ended up doing the fandango instead ...

So what I'll do from now on is go out to the left side and cut the corner and let everyone by again later on - lesson learned.

Near the end of the race I was gaining on you, and looking forward to a battle. I don't think it happened. This race started very well, but a mistake cost me, and after that it all went down hill. If damage had been 100% I would have been out of the race early.

I also caused a few accidents, and I think most people who've come to know me by now would say I'm not Maldonado - it was just a tough day. Hope the next one is better. Congrats to the winners, and the HUGE turnout was fantastic!
