Things are moving at Codemasters
No, Irwindale is a REAL track that the Nationwide series used to use. Its still a NASCAR sanctioned track but it's used for the the K&N Pro series. http://www.irwindalespeedway.com/
I tried that Hazyview track last night and boy thats sort!!! 15 seconds a lap . I got to within 5/hundredths of your time Michael but it's tough to imagien racing around there with a field fulll of cars lolLoL, you are correct Robert. Actually the Ovals on Shift are quite fun and should lend themselves to good racing. I would still like to see Hazyview swapped for Toyota Irwindale, though. The wider track will allow for some two wide racing I think and it has more lines available for racing depending on how the car is set-up. Laps are still around 20 seconds though.
I tried working a different line but the only thing it worked was me into the wall lol I reckon if we get half a dozen to the grid the leader wil be looking at the 6th cars bumper . Should be an interesting one. No reason we can't run another series at some point with all the ovals includedyeah its pretty tight, single line track. That's why I mentioned Irwindale, but I guess the decision is ultimately up to Robert.
I had some running here yesterday evening, but can't remember lap times.... i was focussed more on trying to remember what corner was coming up and what gear i should be in. I think in the 3 lap race i did after 20mins practice the fast lap was 1:32ish. I finished 3rd with a 1:36ish time.Had a first run out in Grid since Abu Dhabi at lunch time with a 20 minute practice session here. It was certainly a bit of a shock after a fortnight with Shift 2, I felt very disassociated with the car and the lack of feeling through the wheel is so much more apparent now and it took a while to get my head back into it. That turning on a spindle feeling was also very apparent again and in some respects I can only say it feels a bit like I was playing with a pad with the way the car reacts. There’s a much more ‘connected’ feel to the cars in Shift 2 for me and getting that feel through the wheel I think is such a big part of that. I’ll have to check my wheel settings to see whether anything has changed but I think it's just the better handling model of Shift that I am finding hard to shake.
Also, had a couple of times where the game wouldn’t start due to an unreadable disc (the game disc this time, not the HDD) so more problems could be afoot. It’s not the first time it’s happened so I’m hoping its just a temporary glitch but after Saturdays disaster who knows!!
Anyway, I don’t own this car so have no tuning capability and just stuck with the default tune. What’s a decent time around this track.. anyone had any time around here yet? It would be good to get a benchmark. It's quite a fun track and that 20 minutes has it fairly well set in my head now. I’ll see how things progress over the next few days but I have a feeling Shift 2 will be hard for me to resist and that will likely take over.
A good bit of news is that I was able to recover my Grid stuff after the HDD failure so I haven’t lost everything (just in Shift 2). I had my Grid and F1 stuff backed up to the cloud and a flash drive so I only lost the last sessions I had in the game at Abu Dhabi (I think).
The car only costs about 80k Karl. I've had a few run outs here now and it's definitely a fun course and pretty easy to learn. Problem I find is these cars have massive oversteer so tuning is pretty important. The default gears are not ideal and you really need a higher gear through the corners than I would ideally like which of course means accelleration suffers.I had some running here yesterday evening, but can't remember lap times.... i was focussed more on trying to remember what corner was coming up and what gear i should be in. I think in the 3 lap race i did after 20mins practice the fast lap was 1:32ish. I finished 3rd with a 1:36ish time.
I haven't even looked to see what this car costs. I bet i don't have the cash to buy it anyway. and then getting the tuning levels would be time id rather spend elsewhere. I'll likely just use a loaner.
The steering took me quite a bit to get use to after the F1 race. And preparing for the F1 race took a long time after driving Shift 2 for the better part of a week. \
F1 - small movements on the wheel are required.
Shift 2 - huge movements of the wheel are required
Grid a/s - better pick the right gear of you'll oversteer out of every corner and find yourself in the wall.
I thought learning the circuit would take a long time but i think one more 20 min practice session and i'll have it down no problem.
I find myself driving Miss Daisy all around downtown Chicago
Damn I've been running the wrong track... I thought we were doing the long one. I was managing 1:49's. Can't be aggressive at all with this car.. I find myself driving Miss Daisy all around downtown Chicago. If I slip up and get on the throttle too quickly I'll be rewarded with an intimate encounter with the barrier. These cars are also fairly fragile, a small scrape will almost necessarily net you with a bent steering shaft. Guess I'll run the Underpass Ring sometime tonight. There is a Challenge using the Caterham. You can get practice and level up quickly while having fun at Hockenheim, and make some Ca$h too!
Edit: I just noticed that this race is on Sunday??? or is that a typo with the Date? I only noticed because Friday the 13th
