You need to have configured a handbrake button/key and press it at the start to release the handbrake. Once you do that select the gear, press the gas and go!

I was caught out by this too, no on screen prompts at all to help.

Just had an hour on this, for £3 I though it was worth a go and @Celestiale I am using Oculus VR. Bottom line it is an extremely early access game, sometimes hilariously so, but there is possibly something here they can build on.

I've also included some tips about how to overcome some of the frustratingly unexplained elements of the game I encountered (handbrake on at start, assigning and reversing axis for controls, selecting tyres etc).

My Steam Review:
For less than £3 this is actually better than I expected. It is clearly a 'very' Early Access game so keep that in mind if you do think of buying in at this stage. Recommended prepared you're willing to do some figuring out for yourself.

Let's start with the most positive aspects:

Oculus VR works perfectly for me and is a much better way to play the game, the corner depth perception and elevation changes are much more effectively conveyed. Given the rudimentary graphics I think VR is by far the better option at this stage. Some of the graphics pop in of the forest stage is highly noticeable, eg you can count the flowers popping in on the screen as you drive towards them. Loading in from the pregame UI to ingame VR is an utterly surreal experience, in the headset you are first in a white room, them some scenery pops in, then the car above your head from an outside view, then inside the car sat in the footwell and finally that become actually a decent position looking over the wheel, so despite there being, afaik, no controls to adjust the seating position it isn't too bad at all. Those elements aside it's a good start for the VR element of the game.

The rest needs some work and I'll add a few comments about both the ok aspects and what needs some work:

The VR version does need some form of visible gear selection indicator as there is nothing onscreen at the moment.

Luckily I had no issues lauching the pregame UI but you will need to spend some time getting the game setup. Video ettings need to match your screen resolution and whatever controller you are using needs to be configured. There is no wizard but simply clicking the circle at the top of the control in question, steering, brakes, throttle etc and then selecting the wheel/pedal/button you want to assign worked for me on the TX458 wheel (remember to reverse the axis for throttle and brake too!)

The game itself plays OK, there is no real road feedback on the tarmac stages, you just get some wheel shake if you hit the edges/scenery. Wheel feedback at the moment is more weight than feel but is drivable in both VR and single screen. Forest stages have much more road feedback and bounce so there is something good to work with here.

They need to add an onscreen instruction to release the handbrake at the start of stages, that initially caught me out, had the car in gear and I was going nowhere.

Finally make sure you select the correct tyres for the forest stages because if you leave the grip tyres on it is a very quick trip to the trees at the first corner. It's like driving on sheet ice. With the forest tyres on normal handling is restored.

I'm not sure the wheel FFB strength option is doing much, I reduced from 140 to 60 and it still flet like heavy steering.

If you are easily frustrated and don't like figuring things out for yourself I would say avoid this game for now. If you are ok with a bit of experimentation and fiddling to find the right settings it is worth a go.

It till be good to see how this game progresses, for £3 it was worth the risk for me even at this stage, it could go either way of course and we might not see much improvement but there is the basis of something that could be good here.

On the control page wheel and all pedals and buttons indicate that they work but when I load a stage I hear the engine but the car wont move or rev up when I press the accelerator ( It moved very slow once but that's all ) ?

Would love to take a car for a spin !

I'm obviously missing something here

I'll try the HB thingy later !

Thanks M8 !

The wait is finally over - gRally released to Steam Early Access earlier today.

The latest rally title to hit PC sim racers, gRally is not a high budget AAA simulation with official licences and 1:1 scanned reproduction of the various stages of the World Rally Championship, but is rather a long lasting labour of love by a group of passionate rally fans who cut their teeth building community created add on content for the legendary Richard Burns rally title from the early 2000's.

Having been around in the shadows for many years now, ghiboz has finally brought this interesting title to Early Access in Steam, and is selling the software for the ridiculous price of £2.89!

So what will the simulation feature?

gRally is an Indie project born of the passion of the rbr-online team crew.
With its slogan #DreamExperienceBelieve the team has put full faith in this product, the fruit of hard work in free time, wich it now offers to entire community of rally simmers.

gRally is not in a position to have official licenses at the moment and its starting point is a limited number of racing cars.

gRally, considered its Indie character, is modding-oriented. We developed integrated Unity tools that will facilitate the insertion of your creations, whether it be additional cars or tracks.

gRally has the same basic ideas of rbr-online, so expect exceptional doses of adrenaline during online session where one can compete against a host of players around the world.

gRally is abreast with all new gaming hardware: VR, TrackIR and multiscreen. It is possible to use the most popular brands of steering wheels and a vast number of home-made hardware devices.

gRally recreates the range of real rally conditions that drivers must face, including various type of surface and climate as well as different times of day and night.

gRally places much importance on the co-driver's role: you can choose different codrivers by language and as in a real rally it will be possible to realize real recce to set down customized pacenotes in order to achieve a higher degree of driving confidence and speed.

gRally is constantly evolving and has need of your support to improve ever more day by day.

Looks like a promising project, and could well fill that simulation gap many rally fans have been waiting for following the disappointment of DiRT 4 last year.

Check out the gRally Steam Store page for more information.

£2.89 thats 1 beer in a cheapish place in the uk.

You show me where you can get a pint for £2.89 here and I'll come over and buy you one! :D

I still remember when a pint of larger cost £1.20 and smooth was £1.30. Man those days feel like yesterday. Costs that much for a bloody sodawater and lime now.
