Hello Wotever, thanks for your continuous improvements through so many updates!

... however for this one I have some comments (my IT security part): I understand your will to make it easier for everyone but this time you may have gone too far...
- It is not a good practice to run as administrator by default, especially that Simhub doesn't need it for most of its functions; sure you can turn it off and that's what I did, but by default exposes unknowing users to more security threats.
- Opening firewall port should be done once on installation but should not be available on a running-as-usual program, again it opens a potential security weakness.

Just my input, don't take it bad but I really think we should not run as administrator by default, and check port is open only once on installation...

Thanks for the great work!

Yeah totally I agree, I resisted for two years :D ,

Here are the reasons why I ended with this situation:
  • Nobody reads the doc :( .... I can tell it, i can write it, nobody reads it .... so many people asking why SimHub does not works, just because they run their game as admin (I don't know how the heck they do that :(, none of my games runs as admin.

  • I try to expand a little the visibility of the out of game features like system info, which requires absolutely Admin rights to grab all the infos, in this feature range simhub requires admin rights to run all the features, which again end with endless questions :( .

  • For the firewall opening I ended with this because it was hard to explain how to open the firewall.
I could (will ?) change the way it is handled to make it explicit, since I've made a little assistant, i could put it here and ask for UAC at this moment. I've made a lot of tests before doing that, loooooot of software does that, you just have to look at your firewall rules to see it. The firewall rule created only target SimHub right in the norms of all the created rules, any other softwares would not gain access to the port.
My heart was bleeding when I changed this default value , I'm totally thinking like you. That's why I kept the option, on my side it is disabled obviously.

Edit ! since you are a trucker :D just to illustrate my says ;)
This one is ugly :

These are de facto the norm of 99% of the softwares :

And finally the SimHub rule, which is 99.9% as secure as the thousands of other softwares self created rules :

Thanks for the reply! I'm still doubtful if taking care of few people who don't understand should put everyone at a higher risk... or because other softwares are doing it badly why we should do the same... but I understand, at least you left the options open!

I've released an update which should make you the process more simple, it will open the window firewall by itself, just open the instructions and type the address or scan the QR Code on your phone.

Thank you so much for your time and effort to solve this for me.
Works nicely now, very impressed with this App. Yet another brilliant add on to make Assetto Corsa even more enjoyable.
Will watch for future updates, especially with the security issue raised.
Once again a big thanks.

I'm making a dashboard design for rally. I want something simple and effective (without speed or any other irrelevant data), replicating the dashboard that can be seen in this video:

The features include: large gear indicator, the background of which goes red at full revs, yellow side boxes that are visible at 85%, pit indicator, lap time and that's all. Recently, by reading the Excel document with a chart about the data supported by different games, I discovered CurrentSectorIndex, which indicates the sector that you are in, as you can see too on the vertical bar on the left in Dirt Rally. So, I've included this too. What other interesting data can be displayed with Dirt Rally and Simhub?

Hi,
I noted that I have several replay files from the last test I did. Can I open this replay instead of recording a new one? If not, I assume I can delete them, some are 200 MB size

You can look in the properties the game offers you and choose. What I did was record a replay with the desired game and see what parameters can be used.

Can you please confirm that [DataCorePlugin.GameData.NewData.PitLimiterOn] is working? I've tried it with rFactor 2, which lets you control with a button when the speed limiter is on or off, but it doesn't work. I've made a rule of visibility for a graphic and it's visible while the car is in the pits, but it goes invisible when I leave the pits, just like [DataCorePlugin.GameData.NewData.IsInPitLane]. Shouldn't it be on or off depending on the status of the pit limiter on the car?

I tested it yesterday and worked

You're talking to me?

Also, any idea how to display flags with rFactor 2? I can see the only supported value is "Flag_Name", but it's marked as computed. What does that mean? I have created conditions for all flags colors and also a generic flag, and everything works with AC, but not with rFactor 2.

Yes. I have one warning for 'is in pitlane' and other for 'pit limiter active' and depending of the game, it flashes one or another, or both if I have pit limiter active in rF2.

I tested flags but in AC, I need to do it in the rest of the games.

Can you please check what command are you using, this one? -> [DataCorePlugin.GameData.NewData.PitLimiterOn]

I'm right now testing it and when I press the pit speed limiter button on my wheel, I can see on the rfactor 2 screen: speed limiter off but the raw result in the binding screen in Simhub is 1 and only changes to 0 when I leave the pits. ???????

And what is the difference between isinpit and isinpitlane?

I have mapped a button on my steering wheel to change between the normal dash screen and the track screen. I'd like to create a longpress control to change between my two layouts, but I cannot find any command for that, but only to cycle next dash. Do I have to delete all the dashboards and keep only the two I want to cycle with longpress, or is there any other way to map the button to cycle between two specific dashboards? If this is not possible, as an alternative idea... is there any command to assign to that longpress in order to reset the current laptime and start running the timer from scratch? Thanx!

Hello Wotever,
Another suggestion for us trucklovers: ATS/ETS2 local radio (https://github.com/Koenvh1/ets2-local-radio), would it be easy (and allowed) to integrate similar function in Simhub? I see it uses the telemetry data for coordinates (but from nlhans !!!), since we have a GPS map now in Simhub it would be soooo perfect to add local radio... (don't need the overlay myself).
I'm probably asking too much, but I thought I might ask since you are eager to improve Simhub continuously...

Just played rFactor2 which uses both warnings. When I'm in pitlane, pitlane warning flashes. And when I hit the limiter, its warning flashes too. If I quit it, stop flashing and only pitlane warning flashes until I leave the pit lane.

Pitlane warning: if([DataCorePlugin.GameData.NewData.IsInPitLane],blink('Pitlane', 500, [DataCorePlugin.GameData.NewData.IsInPitLane]>0), 0)

Limiter warning: if([DataCorePlugin.GameData.NewData.PitLimiterOn],blink('Limitador', 500, [DataCorePlugin.GameData.NewData.PitLimiterOn]>0), 0)

If I leave the NCalc window open and I play the replay, I can see the raw value changing between false and true. In both cases.

Do you prefer licensed hardware?

  • Yes for me it is vital

  • Yes, but only if it's a manufacturer I like

  • Yes, but only if the price is right

  • No, a generic wheel is fine

  • No, I would be ok with a replica
