Assetto Corsa v0.5 released

Update: v0.5 is now released. Find the patch notes here: http://www.racedepartment.com/forum/threads/assetto-corsa-v0-5-released.80625/page-7#post-1618812

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

15 cars left to get (well 16 with the LaFerrari, but this car will only be available with the 1.0 version of the game) so which ones are we getting friday ?! In theory we'll get 3 cars, but since we had a massive break we might get 4 like we did on Xmas. My guess is, we will get factory cars (bunch of Lotus's...) and none of the GT3's/1 GT2 or F1's.

The car I want the most is the T125 !!! release it already :p

Well guys and gals, lets share the car you wish on getting this friday and also what you believe will be release (it might not be the one you really expect yet).

you said your experience is with fm1 and 2 at no moment you mention 3 and 4, talking about my comprehension how about you check your memory :/ and I am not angry, if just find your logic very flawed !
In post #297, you have quoted one of Michael's posts. In it he states:-

I can only speak from my experience with Forza, Forza2, Foraz3, and Forza4.....I played with all aids off

Yet you claim that he makes no mention of Forza's 3 and 4. I believe sir, it is you who should have gone to Specsavers, lol.

My quote:
I can only speak from my experience with Forza, Forza2, Foraz3, and Forza4.....I played with all aids off, manual shifting with clutch (left bumper button for clutch) and yes, it is quite easy.

No need to check memory when I can simply scroll up. I will still spell it out just you though.....The first four Forza's using no aids (not even auto-clutch) are for me EASY! Sorry that you seem to find them difficult.

Now can we get this thread back on topic before it gets locked?

why would it get lock :/ can we just discuss without any fuss. We're just bumping heads, but there's nothing wrong or bad about it. We're just talkin, well writting technically after all.

I don't know why you don't mind your business :/ but I was refering to this "Most of my Forza experience was spent on Forza2, I probably had around a thousand hours of play time after it was all said and done. "

I believe he's old enought, he doesn't need someone to hold his hand.

It could get locked because discussing whether Forza is easy or not has nothing to do with the subject of this thread which is: Assetto Corsa v0.5 released.

But screw it, more off topicness:

The original Forza was the driving game that made me forget about and lose all interest in the Gran Turismo series.
I played Forza2 pretty much every day for over two years. Turn10 screwed up pretty much everything online in Forza3 so I ended up with maybe a couple hundred hours played. I only recently purchased Forza4 and only played it for a couple months before getting rid of it. On all of them I pretty much only used RWD cars and have always driven with all aids off with manual shifting and manual clutch. All in all I have a buttload of experience with Forza and their physics.

All that being said, IMO driving in Forza is "easier" than real life. Drifts that would end with you on your lid next to the track or stuffed door deep in the tire barriers in real life are easily saved using a gamepad no problem in Forza. Fun, yes; realistic, no.

Is this the Asetto Corsa thread?
That's why we can't go off topic like this, it confuses people.

Back on topic:
The E92 M3 now only feels like it has one bag of concrete in the trunk instead of 10. Still a bit of a butt heavy pig but much better now. F40 still wants to kill me but it's a bit nicer about it now.

After reading so much crap about AI in this topic I had to come back....
Seeing people having fun dodging crazy AI on a simulator left me very concerned about Assetto Corsa future!
The last time i've seen such crazy AI was probably in 1992 Mega Drive's Super Monaco gp II:thumbsdown:

yeah mate, lower your expectations for the moment, just till 1.0 arrives.
I haven't even installed the game yet, just reading through these ACtopics at RD
while I keep on racing online at rFactor 1.
In March, then I will shift my attention to AC cause then it will have matured even more.
I suggest you do the same. ;)

Couple of impressions from v0.5.2

- Love the new tire model, it's a subtle change, but it feels a bit more connected to the road (if that's even possible). It's enabled the Z4 GT3 to get more wheel spin on acceleration, whereas before it's rear-end was glued to the track. I'm sure other cars have been affected by this as well.

- The 1M is very fun to drive when you get the hang of the turn in characteristics. It seems to understeer like crazy. But it's fun because you can correct it with a boot full of oversteer :)

- The AI is a bit chaotic but once you get a good rhythm, they're not too bad for a BETA version.

- The Evora GTE is beautiful! Love that car!

- Noticed they've made some graphical improvements (adding white boundary lines at Monza for example).

Pedro your entitled to your opinion. I don't and nor should anyone expect the AI to be in a release state. Why do you think its only being allowed to run under 4 distinct events. Because its in a testing phase.

I'd expect the data gathered from these events is being used to shape the AI. Look at the cars involved. An F1, a baby Fiat 500, a BMW and a Supersports multiclass race. Its a diverse spread. Why not all 4 BMW's, or Lotus's etc. Why aren't they letting us mix and match any car we want even within the 4 track boundaries of the 0.5 release. Answer: Because we are guinea pigs. Get it? Jesus cop on to yourself and understand the purpose we are being used for. The deal is simple. We buy early, we get to play early. In return we provide feedback data for development, I have no doubt AC is reporting back data to KS for analysis on several fronts (somebody may want to run an upload check from AC to see if that is happening, I could be way off). Here may be some useful data types:

1) Popularity of events (1 to 4) - Assists in determining audience demographics, licence popularity and much more.
2) Collision data, both player to AI and AI to AI.
3) AI integrity. Do the AI models act in game as they were programmed when faced with the complex variables we know as the player. Is that interaction appropriate. They want a human-esque AI so they need it to make crazy mistakes then mold it into a refined shape. Start wild, get sane.
4) System and driver analysis when faced with the varying vehicle model types, tracks etc.
5) The list goes on & on.....I'm not a dev to know the extent of Kunos's needs.

Your saying your not stupid enough to race the AI. But frankly you have just compared the AI to Mega Drive's Super Monaco gp II. Are you for real. As I said above you are entitled to your opinion but if you are gong to express it make an argument for your position not against yourself with your comparisons. Have you looked back on it or are you just remembering it with a time altered perception. Here it is below. I'm not seeing any form of AI interaction I could compare to even AC's early Alpha AI.

You say if you were a developer you wouldn't have released this. 2 points.

1) Your clearly not a developer as you can't seem to understand the purpose of an early release development system to be used by a relatively small base of users to mold the product.
2) They didn't 'release' this if you take release as meaning its a finished product. Its not, its early access. Its an Alpha release of AI in a Beta game being developed on a component by component modular implementation strategy. Thats why we get AI yesterday, MP later etc rather than it all at once and upgrading all parts with each update.

Peace. :)

Thanks for your time!
but since the AI is clearly trying to knock me out, even when i try to stay safe out of the way, my comparisons make much more sense than the actual AI itself!

Anyway the only reason i get mad about it is hearing people say "the AI is awesome" or "heyyy that behaviour is there all the time in real racing"
Please give me a break...

No one has said that they think the AI are awesome.

Sure, the AI isn't that good, but it's just a start. I think more than anything people are just happy to finally have something to race against, even if it's just unfinished AI.

Stop chastising Kunos. If you think you could do such a better job, then why don't you hand in your CV to Kunos and help them out. They only have 10 or so people working on this game (compared to hundreds of programmers with the big companies) so for you to expect the AI to be amazing in their beta phase is ridiculous and even mildly selfish.

Lower your expectations bud, and perhaps you'll enjoy the game for what it is, rather than what you want it to be.

Of course the AI is awesome, it's helping me practice for online play :p I know I'm gonna get rammed if I leave myself at all open when I go online (at least until someone comes up with an app to penalize that), may as well know how not to spin out as a result.

Yes. Still it hurts to see some people happy about this AI!

You have to read what has been said more closely: Nobody seems to be absolutely happy about the AI in its current state. Improvement is always possible, perfection however not, never!

It was pointed out again and again that the AI which has been released on friday (recently!) is more or less a first glimpse of a development process. A start, call it a preview if you like or an introductions of a feature what has been so massively asked for by many people. So please stop the bitching and bickering and observe its further development or make some useful posts about bugs at Kunos.
