Assetto Corsa v0.5 released

Update: v0.5 is now released. Find the patch notes here: http://www.racedepartment.com/forum/threads/assetto-corsa-v0-5-released.80625/page-7#post-1618812

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

15 cars left to get (well 16 with the LaFerrari, but this car will only be available with the 1.0 version of the game) so which ones are we getting friday ?! In theory we'll get 3 cars, but since we had a massive break we might get 4 like we did on Xmas. My guess is, we will get factory cars (bunch of Lotus's...) and none of the GT3's/1 GT2 or F1's.

The car I want the most is the T125 !!! release it already :p

Well guys and gals, lets share the car you wish on getting this friday and also what you believe will be release (it might not be the one you really expect yet).

I've given all the new AI challenges a go now. I've never been much of a fan of open wheeler races but I've had some great races today and really enjoyed the Tatus race. Again I'm amazed how easy it was to get into races, I hadn't been playing AC in the week or two leading up the latest update but was still able to jump in and work off the pace of the other cars without doing practice.

This first edition AI puts up a great fight, it has obvious weaknesses, In the BMW race I was able to overtake quite easily on corner 8 - 9 every time the AI all seem to have the same behaviour there. But overall once you get up behind one of the AI their clearly influenced by your presence.

It's probably the space thing. The game has to save 12 times as much data about car positions on each lap.
Although with over 40 MB per lap... they have write A LOT of some additional stuff to make 5 laps not fit in a single replay file.

Yes, you are probably correct in that. :)

I did find the replay.ini file, looks like this:

[REPLAY]
MAX_TIME_MINUTES=0 ; specify a maximum time OR
MAX_SIZE_MB=200

so changing the values there should fix it.

I've tried changing the values in the ini file but they don't take. When I start the game it goes back to the in game settings. I don't seem to be able to go over 200mb.

I already liked it before, but since the latest update, I think the cars I tried behave more than I would expect them. I feel slides and I manage to catch them before I hit the wall! I now LOVE it.

I think I also have better frame rates than before.

There seems to be one change though where I have mixed feelings about:
I was driving the KTM before a lot, without any aides and I had to use the clutch because the downshifts otherwise sent me into the gravel. Now I can easily downshift without the clutch.

It might be more difficult and I am relatively even more slower than without, but I do like a realistic gearbox simulation! That's the one thing I loved about iRacing, cars with an non-sequential gear, you either have to use the clutch or to enable auto-clutch, otherwise you are not able to change gears.

I have a question since I do not own Assetto Corsa yet. However I don't want to stir up a dispute. But what can be said about quotes similar to: "since the last update, the handling of AC has changed from a Sim to the likes of GRID?"

I just want to read a few opinions about it, but please no discussions about it, if possible.

You can send me a pm too, if you wish so.

Thank you!

Steam forums are almost as bad as Facebook comments. I know of at least one guy that doesn't own AC, for whatever reason he wants AC to fail, and he posts in just about every thread over there like he has spent hundreds of hours playing it.

For some reason there are alot of guys out there that think if the basic driving in a sim is easy than it is automatically Forza simcadeness. Not sure why people think that driving is all that difficult, when I was 18 I would do the better part of 100mph down gravel roads fishtailing the hell out of my POS for fun. I only completely lost control and spun out once.

Here is the deal with AC: You set up your wheel and you drive. You don't have to learn how to "drive the game" you just drive and do all the things that come naturally. You can then start trying different lines, different braking points, things of that nature to try to be faster.

Am sorry but forza isn't easy if you take of all of the aids !!!! if you think it's easy either you have aids or you are just talking without knowing !!!!

Lol, you say that, but give me the 12-C on street tires at Imola and I'll spin it for you. Lots.

One interesting thing I noticed about FM4 was that even if you turned off all the aids, there would still be aids on. During replays, when I'd go around corners with a little drift, I'd set the replay view to the one that shows the front tire. You can see the tire wobbling left and right making mini-corrections to hold the drift. It wasn't even realistic looking. The wheel would jump back and forth very fast. It was especially noticeable in the old drifty muscle cars. I couldn't stand that. So even with aids off, the game would still steer for you. That totally turned me off of FM. I'd love to know if the latest rendition has that "feature."

I have tried fM5 and I found it a lot harder than FM4 (off course with zero aid)

Off topic for a minute:

I can only speak from my experience with Forza, Forza2, Foraz3, and Forza4.....I played with all aids off, manual shifting with clutch (left bumper button for clutch) and yes, it is quite easy.

I use no aids and the only talking without knowing I am doing is regarding Forza5....don't own it and probably never will. I've only used a wheel with the original Forza and it wasn't that good of a wheel. Most of my Forza experience was spent on Forza2, I probably had around a thousand hours of play time after it was all said and done.

Back on topic:
New tire model is amazing, the BMW 1-Series is sex on wheels.

....wow so you judge fm3, 4, 5 based on your experience with 1 and 2... that's very wrong !!!! so with your logic, AC 0.1 is the final product, PC build 001 is the final product, rf1 v1 is the final product ect ect ect, please if you going to judge, how about actually have played with the product :/ freaking baffling.

you said your experience is with fm1 and 2 at no moment you mention 3 and 4, talking about my comprehension how about you check your memory :/ and I am not angry, if just find your logic very flawed !

My quote:

No need to check memory when I can simply scroll up. I will still spell it out just you though.....The first four Forza's using no aids (not even auto-clutch) are for me EASY! Sorry that you seem to find them difficult.

Now can we get this thread back on topic before it gets locked?
