Well, that's bad news.

I hope AC will allow modding by just copying files to AC folder, without this whole steam workshop. Therefore any mod would work, no matter what's in it. Isn't it how Race07 mods work?

But if it's not the case, then the Steam only idea seems like a big drawback.

but what is meant with "copyrighted material"? does this mean copyrighted content from other games, so let's say a converted track from GTR or something like that. or does it mean the recreation of copyrighted real-life "content", so let's say a scratch made Mercedes SLS?? if it is the first possibility, i think we won't get many problems, as nearly every high-quality mod is made from scratch and so doesn't belong to any copyright of another developer.

They speak of both situations.
No worries it is just a classy way to subside modding (if it will exist at all)
so steam bros will see only the DLCs coming while the community (I suppose will be able to share mods between them)

Now this would be smart,if everyone wasn't forced to use steam. because everyone who doesn't like it,still gets only the negatives tied with it.

Unlike you and many others,
there are people who respect automotive and motorsport industries.
by removing the brand of a car,you essentially strip the creator of his rights, you steal the design and pass it as your own.

I really don't understand how this is tolerable

even if there wasn't a single issue with copyrights have any of the steam supporters actually read the terms and conditions?

http://steamcommunity.com/workshop/workshoplegalagreement

Who on earth with functional braincells would upload his work there?

Right now I DEMAND an answer, enough with the child's play. I want to know what is and what is not possible with AC.

I want to know how to face my teammates and let them know if I'm ok for them to work with AC,in case they want to support it.

I clearly do not want my work in steam.period

So instead of telling us how to hard is to be a game dev is,shed some light in those issues.
In order to know how to approach your game, and If we will do it at all.

If you don't want to do that, do not complain about complainers then, because your actions created them in the first place.

well, i kinda see modding in AC dying then. very sad, as it was one of THOSE features, that were praised in the beginning. is modding possible for other steam games? Race07 for example? if yes, how far?

Shadow Explorer; it is you and your team who started working before a game was released. Therefore, you and your friends made a choice to start a project for a piece of software that was and it not finalised. Your choices, your risks, your way.

Until you have payed for the Assetto Corsa, you don't have a single right at all. Keep that in mind.

Would be nice to think some companies will be willing to see it as what it is (free advertising) and approve of some high-quality mods, esp. of vehicles that aren't available to the general public. It's not like Ferrari loses out sales of F1 cars because people drive them in the game instead, it's just they want to manage their public image.
Except they might want to or do sell exclusive licenses, which won't be as exclusive if you can simply add them to a game for free.

Also, LOL at the Shadow fella.

Personally I won't be bothering with Steam workshop if it means the cars can't use trademarks (no surprise really, I expected this to be the case). That would be like taking the car's soul away. I'd much rather add it as a download on here so we can enjoy the cars with their trademarks intact.

Even if you paid for a game you have no right to demand a statement to a question you are having. You can ask nicely but you can't demand anything at all.

@ anyone, my work is not tailor made for AC.
I would do it regardless,
I do not care about AC at this point,
but I do care where my work will end up.

and because I do not work alone, I do not want to "hang" my teammates the last minutes because I totally dissagree,

Right now all we have is contradicting news, and noone from kunos is sheding some light to them.
There are people waiting for so many months and went through so many false promises regarding AC
so yes I demand those answers, they created those expectations in the first place, they have to deal with it. let us know their plan, then if we are willing to follow or not is our problem

Hopefully we will be able to upload and download mods out of Steam like in Race07 or other Steam games ...

but i dont understand something ... uploading car brand mods in forums dont also violates copyrights? i allways thought a copyright will be the same everywhere and modding a Mercedes or whatever without permission will allways violates copyrights.

Can someone explain exatly how this works? I confess im a bit ignorant on this law matters

I'm aware of a few mods that have been shut down. Wasn't there a recent Porsche rFactor mod that was closed down when that Automaniax Porsche-backed one appeared? The same with the BTCC, many rFactor mods of that closed down. However, I am not actually aware of (m)any actual manufacturers taking exception to simply publishing mods (apart from that one recent Porsche case).

Steam is, in essence, making money with mods - because you need the game (and they're selling it to you) in order to make use of the mods. We, RaceDepartment, are not selling games and that's the whole point.

At least that's what I think how it's working. Mods in general can be taken when copyright violations come into play although it rarely happens, as mentioned in the post above. :)

It is much more complex, actually modding exists in a grey area.

for example the mod itself if it is scratch, belongs to it's creators.
the brand and shape of the car, belongs to the vehicle manufacturer.
but still the work overall belongs to the modding team,

mods are released for free in their majority, so there is no monetary gain for the team,
also the manufacturer is credited as well. (company, model name)

So once could say that it falls under fair use.
the model itself is a work of art after all.
physics and be said that it is a result of research.

at least this is how I see it.

now because games are not (considered) works of art,but products that do make money, license is needed needed, and because the mod can be used to boost sales of a game..

So ...from what you guys said ... i assume 95% of the mods we play online violates copyrights and are illegal ... if Porsche mod was shut down it means every car/track branded mods can also be shutdown when played online in a game people payed for ... the thing is that we keep doing it as long as the copyrights owners dont complain about it ...

the correct question is why would anyone would want to release something on steam,
they only reason i see, because DLC.

as long as we do not have an official statement regarding AC planning.
nothing can be said for sure...
