Kunos Simulazioni have kept very quiet regarding Assetto Corsa EVO - but now, the most-anticipated racing simulation of 2024 has a Steam page including screenshots and the first bits of info.

When it comes to eagerly anticipated racing sims set to launch in 2024, there is no way around Assetto Corsa EVO. Information on the successor to Assetto Corsa and Assetto Corsa Competizione has been sparse thus far, as Kunos Simulazioni had only revealed the name of the upcoming game alongside the release of the Nürburgring-Nordschleife for ACC.

Now, sim racers finally get some more nuggets of information, as well as a number of screenshots: The Assetto Corsa EVO page in the Steam store is live, and it is not just there for fans to wishlist the game. Instead, several screenshots as well as the system requirements for the PC version can be found there as well, allowing fans to draw the first conclusions about the sim.

Circuits & Cars in AC EVO

Many had been wondering about whether or not AC EVO would be purely focused on racing cars, or if it would be a return to the broad spectrum of content available in the original Assetto Corsa. The new Steam page answers this question somewhat, with most of the cars that are shown (in part, anyway) being road-going vehicles. The only exception is a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992), while manufacturers show include Hyundai, Lamborghini, Mercedes-Benz, Alfa Romeo and Alpine.

In addition to the first batch of vehicles, a few racing circuits can also be spotted among the screenshots. The most obvious - and possibly most important for many sim racers - is the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. Alongside the infamous Green Hell, the Autodromo di Imola with its characteristic kerbs at Variante Alta is visible. Other shots are harder to make out - we have a feeling that they could show Oulton Park or Brands Hatch, but be sure to let us know your guesses in the comments!

Aside from the screenshots, more info on AC Evo itself is included in the short description text. Kunos state that the sim will inlcude "different classes spanning across yeas of motoring history. From road cars, classics, hypercars, and race cars. The most iconic representation of the automotive and motorsport world."

"Proprietary, high-performance engine"

This is achieved via a new, "proprietary, high-performance photorealistic engine", which will also support VR and triple screens from the get-go, confirming Kunos Founder Marco Massarutto's statement from a few weeks ago. Players can also look forward to a "new mathematical model" that "meticulously simulates asphalt performacnce in different dynamic weather conditions that guarantees an authentic and realistic experience which will redefine the standards that have made Assetto Corsa globally renowned."

A lot of superlatives, then, but sim racers would likely be underwhelmed by anything but new technology aimed at being the industry leader. To run this tech, it does not appear that a NASA-style supercomputer will be necessary, however, as the system requirements on the Steam page indicate.

Assetto Corsa EVO System Requirements

Minimum:

  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel I5 8700k / AMD 1500X

Unfortunately, the Steam page does not indicate anything other than '2024' as for the release date - but with this first real bunch of information, sim racers will be all the more eager - and probably impatient - to find out more about Assetto Corsa EVO.

"Processor: Intel I5 8700k / AMD 1500X"

8700k is only an i7, right? Just a typo?

EDIT: This also...?

"Processor: Intel I5 10700k"
Yeah, I looked up to see if my Ryzen 5 3400 was as good as the i5 8700 specified... found out there wasn't an i5 8700 but there was a i7 8700, so I compared it to that instead... looks like it's ok!

More and more game have this requirement now, it has to do with the ability of the game to draw faster, preventing asset to pop up.
Does not mean it will not run on a HDD, but the performance might not be as good. Time will tell.
I run all my SIM on HDD, and I have never noticed a performance difference when using my SSD, except for the longer initial loading time, but once in play, all the same.
We will see how it goes for ACE.
This is true. I'm currently running Forza Motorsport fine on my 4790K with a 2070 SUPER, despite the game warning me I'm using unsupported hardware sure, I have to compromise on ray tracing, and textures often load in as a bit mushy, but it can play fine.

Folks with concerns that modding from day one would ruin DLC uptake should consider that a DLC won't be a one car conversion or even a one track conversion, it will offer a real value to the consumer or it doesn't deserve sales...(Horse Armour from Bethesda springs to mind)
DLC offers the chance of perhaps bringing an in game mechanic that would allow for a new feature, Hillcliming, Drag racing, Rallying, Handicap racing, free roam, police chase, autocross. there's a ton of things that could be added by DLC and every one could have an impact of the modding community.
However, I also don't think that modding will be available on day one, but that doesn't bother me really... there's a good chance that GTRevival..(the game with no name) will see completion 'perhaps 25/26' and that will have modding.

I have a big faith in Kunos since ACC, so I hope AC EVO like ACC, about sound and FFB, with the graphics (textures) from ACC and the easier rendering like AC.
It's a blind buy for me, 100% trust dev.
We need a really better AI than ACC, the main issue for me.

Your point is totally right from game industry perspective in general... but Stefano is different guy...
20 years ago he released what was easily the best physics at time with netKar (Namie)... and it was FREE for all... he is a passionate!
And to all... of course, Assetto Corsa EVO will be "moddable"...
Kunos is at simracing, what Neo is at the Matrix...
Don't think NKP was free. And he isn't involved at all in EVO. He left Kunos during the early years of ACC.

Also AC easily sold DLCs while modding was already available. In fact some mod cars were liked so much that they were turned into official content by Kunos. AFAIK Shelby and Mazda.

Looks great!
I like the fact they went with a custom engine for this one.
Much as I've enjoy ACC, I still like the engine used on AC more.
To me anyway...even the graphics representation in AC is a bit more natural.
Without full shadows employed, the car in ACC sometimes look as if the wheels are floating.
AC does not seem to suffer that issue.
ACE will need to being something exceptional to the table.
Until they fail to deliver on a title...and they haven't so far...I will be giving the folks at Kunos Simulazioni the benefit of doubt.

Is this a 1.0 release ? or is it a early release ?

It hasn't been officially revealed yet what they plan - but my guess is they keep that news quiet for now and already know which way they'll run with it.

My pure guess is, it'll be like AC1. Steam EA, with time to refine code, test bugs, fix errors etc. Likely not a full game content in EA just like AC too. So that gives them the chance to build the extra assets to keep drip-feeding tracks/cars into the game via updates. Hopefully several tiers, so people can choose whatever dlc support they want to make day one. They still are a small development team, so EA would allow them some return on their work to date.

I'd guess ports to console will arrive a year after PC full game release etc.

Dont mind updates with content but the code bugs errors ect. should be the priority if released as early access or at least a max time frame on a 1.0 release. Sooner or later they have to start to notice the complaints from early release and fix the issues before worrying about content all the time. As for small teams, all i remember is their were no major issues like this before covid, then every industry since has seemed to struggle running their business /corporations. example just look at airlines.

Awesome, cant wait.
I hope they will bring finally some life to the virtual racetracks.
Until now, they are plain dead and static in all sims!

I expected for Kunos to learn something with their mod community and give some focus to free roaming right out the release. So... seems like AC Classic will keep on reign for some more years.
Only a tiny, miniscule part of the mod community care about free roaming, just look through the mods on overtake. I very much doubt they have any interest in doing that.

Jack of all trade titles without mod support don't have a long shelf life...

And that's really going to be the big sticking point with ACE... If it doesn't allow modding, if modding is supported or if it's going to be a case of "modding will be supported in time" upon release...

A slow migrating modding community will hold ACE back from reaching the heights that it has the potential to reach... So Kunos really need to get that right...

I know ACE will be awesome, but as long as we don't get ingame footage there is nothing to judge about. Have seen too many outstanding car renderings in the past from every other simulation. That means nothing.

The hardware specs sound fair. I wonder if the 4090 could handle 90hz in VR. Hopefully DLSS or FSR is included. Fingers crossing!

I don't need mods in the beginning because there will be enough original content to enjoy. And otherwise, AC is still available on my SSD. ;)

I can’t imagine Kunos being stupid enough to not realize mods is what has kept AC alive for the last 10 years. So the question would rather be do they *want* a game that lasts 10 years?!
Maybe they rather want us to buy a new game every 2 years, or even F1’s yearly cycle. Pretty sure that would make them more money, which ultimately is what counts.
Some of us would likely jump ship and keep our beloved AC instead, but the majority might not really care that much, unfortunately.

I’m cautiously optimistic that the game will be fun to play, the question is for how long…
There is a quite difference between a game being alive, or a game that makes money.

If AC's most important feature wasn't carried over, could they really use the word "Evolution" in the title in good faith?
The evolution might be in other places
