For motion rigs, it's always recommended to have the screen moving along. the motion cues have to agree with what you see on the screen or it might break immersion.
Now if your motion rig is too underpowered to be able to handle the monitor or the monitors you got require stand as can't handle vibrations is another story. I seen lots of arcades with static screens, might as well just use a xbox controller while at it and sit comfortably on your couch.
Yes if you have only one monitor (and not a large TV), I personally would also recommend to attach it to the rig.
If you however have a triple monitor setup (usually 3x32”), I personally think that there is not a “one size fits all” answer to this question. People should weight the pros and the cons of each setup IMHO.
Here some factors that should be taken into consideration:
- weight of the monitors (1 x UW 49” is much lighter than 3 x 32” monitors)
- type of motion system (SFX,…)
- type of cars driven (GT3 vs. prototype)
- motion setup in terms of produced forces (gentle vs. IRL)
- use of a tactile system or not
- type of tactile system (BK gamer vs several BK LFEs,…)
- available budget for replacing the monitors due to car crashes in game generating great forces or due to constant vibration of the tactile system
In order to have the graphics of the game sunced with the motion, you should adjust the slider for “locked horizon” in the game to your preference, or use some plugin like RHM for AC for example, or use a TrackIR sensor fixed on the rig itself and connected to the TrackIR camera on the triple monitor stand. Problem fixed.
And for the people with triple monitors setup larger than 3x32”, like 3x42” or more, you certainly already know that you only have one option for your setup…LOL
