If so, this is poor form from dev's. They can be the only ones to shut it down, is rfactor 2 going so poorly that they need to close off rfactor one, that's how I see it anyway.

Studio 397 acquired rFactor2 from Image Space Inc. (ISI), so it's a different dev to rFactor and not S397's fault.

ISI still have control and started rfactor 2, rfactor 2 wasn't getting a lot of attention, why not do it. Studio 397 really haven't been spectacular either to be fair. Only started doing things because people complained.

I am not discussing the merits or demerits of rF2, just stating the responsible party. I believe someone posted on the rFactor2 forums regarding this matchmaker situation so you might want to browse around for some info.

So from what I understand 397 are working on bringing it online again, correct?

ISI are responsible for rF1. They shut down their matchmaker service for rF2 since they transferred rF2 to Studio 397 more than a year ago. That matchmaker service apparently also affects rF1.

Studio 397 are responsible for rF2 & rF2 only. Studio 397 are working to resolve an error notification on rF2 servers that appears now due to ISI turning off their rF2 matchmaker service.

So what is ISI doing about the matchmaker for rF1? No clue. ISI has posted nothing at isiforums.net. If you want action on restoring rF1 matchmaker, that's the place to send inquiries.

If you really prefer rF1 FFB to rF2, then get Automobilista.

You unintentionally said what I think. There is a reason it was shut down, to help rfactor 2. People are swarms to a program that is better. rfactor 1 and 2 cant provide it anymore. One is dated, one feels incomplete. If rfactor 2 couldn't attract interest in the first 4 years it never will

Found this in a rfactor drag car group.

"So I emailed ISI(the makers of Rfactor) this morning and asked what was up. here is the answer:
Hi,
I have ran a mod on rfactor for years now and matchmaking service has been down for a week. I was just wondering if it is going to come back up or is it down for good? Any light on the subject would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you and Merry Christmas,

Hi ***,

Not permanent, but a big issue that we're not sure will be resolved before or after the holidays. In the meantime, we are advising those who need to have a list (those who don't use direct IP connect to join leagues, etc), to use the server listing that shows in the steam client.

Thanks,

Tim

So it sounds like maybe *** was right and they got hacked. Also says the steam client list should work so not sure but the good news is that it is not permanent and they are working on it."

Appears it is not permanent. There was talk they were hacked, potentially true.

Note: I have used stars to remove the names of those members. Only name there is an ISI official. This is for privacy reasons

And posted on ISI's Facebook page:

"rF1 Matchmaker is back online. Thank you for your patience.

We still recommend moving rF1 to Steam when you can (probably next time you need to format or start fresh). Non-steam version no longer for sale."
