RaceDepartment New Website Released

RaceDepartment.com will be down on Wednesday 30th October, as we look to bring a fresh new image to the largest sim racing website in the world.

Having undergone considerable growth and change in the last decade and a bit, we feel the time is right to take our website to the next level of presentation and functionality. On the evening of Wednesday 30th October (approx 22:00 UTC) we will close access to www.racedepartment.com for much of the night, as we upload and launch our brand new website!

We anticipate access will be restricted for around 12 hours, but if you still need that essential sim racing fix, take the opportunity to check us out on our various Social Media platforms, which can be accessed via the below links.

Edit: 3 November 2019. After using it for some time now I can honestly say it is all good for me. Most things really improved. Like sim racing, this site offers a lot of statistics now. I'm very happy. Good things are coming and staying.

Has this update broken the search function in some way?

I'm trying to search for various specific mods in the AC downloads section and not getting any hits with certain search terms. I've tried multiple options and even tried searching for mods I can see on the front page of the download section and still not getting any results.

If this isn't a good place to post such a question, please feel free to move it, thanks.

The updated version seems fine to me so far, have only seen it on mobile. Only issue I spotted is stickys (stickies? stickeees?) not separated from new post threads.

I was hoping for some better organisation of the downloads (resources) area. For example trying to find a skin for a car is like looking for a needle in a haystack in AC. Being able to filter the resources by car make would be a good start and then having a mandatory preview picture would be ideal. It just seems very jumbled at the moment.

that would require to manually affect each existing skins to the specific car under a drop down menu
then it raises questions about mod cars, do you add each new created car in that drop down menu / database etc.

Yea, I completely agree. Its closing the door after the horse has already bolted. No one is going to go through 10,000 downloads now to flag them into a certain category.

Looks nice and clean on my mobile....Prefer the old look on my PC though .... sure we'll all get used to the change in a while.

Feel like am on Facebook somehow, with the disagree/dislike button gone it should be a happier place here.

Hi!

I don't really like changes, but (as somebody said before) not shocking me.
I playing in PC, so browsing RD in PC only. I never saw it in mobile.

The new NEWS page is good. But I don't really need to see always (in donwloads, and in the forum) the last 5 news in the right side....
Because it push the main content to left... I like reading at the center of the page. If i want to read news I go to the news page....


Two annoying thing I would change:
1. In the downloads section the main content place too left. So I swap the description and the field, where the author and downloads data.
AND THE MAIN FAIL: WHY is the download button on the top right corner??
I think it would be better to place the download button after the share buttons.

2. I often login only, when I will download something or comment. So I use the site as a guest often.
And that time, the floating news at the bottom right is really annoying....


But I hopefully I find improvements too. When I select some words, the +quote and reply function is good!
