Post-race questions.

I'd like to learn as much as I can from the race to understand how I can improve. Sooo...I have a few questions -

1) I drove the petrol Leon but no-one else did. Did anyone else try it? Was it a competetive option (wne not driven by me!)?

2) I changed the fronts only during the pitstop but in both races I felt the balance was compromised. Did anyone change all four for balance?

3) Watching part of the replays I think I was braking earlier than most and perhaps slowing the car down too much. Is it a good tactic to brake the front-wheel drive cars deep into a corner, just in time to get it stopped for the apex?

Any tips gratefully received!

Spent a lot of laps behind Gunthar (trying not to push him off this week ;) ) Then on lap 7 he clipped a curb at the 1st chicane and went up on 2 wheels for about 3 or 4 secs. I overtook the underneath of his Alfa - sorry Gunthar but it was so funny I could hardly drive for laughing - I thought you might finish the race on 2 wheels :) Great car control though mate!..... Luckily Teo and James were not affected but Gunthar span off in sympathy I think.

Yes I used my many years of motorbike riding there, I didn't think it would come back to 4 wheels!!!!!! Also, yes, I just wanted to stay close to you so left the track... :) Thanks for the clean racing!

After pitstop I was up to 12th and set for a fight with Gunther but completely lost it a couple of times and retired with about 6 minutes left with suspension damage.

Nice racing and bad luck at the same time...

Sorry Günthar for the brushings we had in race two, on lap 17, I was just trying to get the car straight again, but ended up on the apex for that chicane, leaving you no real room. Sorry man.

No stress, I had a "special" wheel line through there haha, hope you have a better race next week mate!! Your friend @ Team Alfa :)

So, I'm sorry to everyone that I didn't get time to practice this track and only did a got a basic setup going in Qualifying so happily started at the back with a lightning fast 1.13 Qual time. But, the setup did work better in R1 where I ran 1.10's alot on 2 wheels :)

was clean racing by all and for a very twisty track this can be hard to "keep off" others. I did a two tyre stop, left tyres only and it worked well. But in R2 it didn't as I got a puncher on my unchanged front right but I kept on trucking as I had a big gap back to the car behind and just went off track when any lapping cars came in range...

For a track that I was thinking I should just log off, it was very rewarding getting at least close to on the pace...

Cheers to all racing and RD for hosting and Ivo for putting the event on!

1) Honda and Leon are generally easiest/fastest cars to drive so yes :)

2) It is quickest overall to change fronts (on a FWD of course). Changing one side is slightly slower (in terms of race pace) but does not upste your balance. Changing all four is generally a no go, unless it rains or something weird. If you have problems with balance, change one side (the side that gets most load) or pit slightly earlier so your car does not have it;s rear tyres quite as worn. Or live eith the oversteer for a couple of laps until it all calms down :)

3) Very much a preference, if you brake later but then dont have the technique or the car set correctly to get around the corner then you will just go off. Brakeing later and later comes in small steps. You can't just brake later, you have to know when to turn, when to release and have the confidence and trust in the car to do so, adjustments change the whole focus of your driving.

Well I chose the Lada and I changed all 4 tyres in both races. Even so I found the car never felt as planted as it had been before the stops and I couldn't gain on the guys ahead.
Had a driver crash in race 2 when running 5th whilst under pressure from James coming into the hairpin, I was spinning when it came back and think I took you off Douglas so apologies for that.

#1 TBH, all cars can be competitive as I have done well on some tracks in honda, alfa, seat, vectra, Audi and even the BMW (once haha). Most here seem to "just like a car" or are trying something new or challenging.

#2 I changed left tyres only and it was ok in R1 but suxed in R2. what most do is change only fronts but pit early to keep the balance of the car intact as much as possible. setup plays a big part here to keep the unchanged tyres in as good a condition as possible.

#3 Really, as deep as you can, but without excessively wearing the tyres in the process. more importantly is being smooth, which I am not so good at :(

I'm a mid pack driver, so others consistently faster drivers will be able to give you more info I'm sure...

Have fun is #1

C U on track :)
