I did it in february 2008. Only protection we got back then was a helmet. Kind scary if you come to think of it after hearing this news. Haven't seen any firesuits among the people that took the same course. We only got a brief instruction how to behave on the track, who to follow and they repeated multiple times not to look at the speed'o'meters because you might miss your braking point for the Tarzancorner. That's all I can recall.

On most of the parts of the experience day you don't need too much instruction either, as some courses are taken outside of the circuit. Only track time we did was racing a BMW 1 series, a Porsche, and the old Formula Fords on the track. The other items were driving in the dunes with a quad, carcontrol on a wet surface, karting and offroad driving.
zandvort is way behind on the safety racing has brought over the years. when you are a go kart driver, you had a chest protecter, neck brace, fire suit, helmet, and gloves. if we have it when we are only going 70 mph then why can't these unexperienced have it in car way faster then that. safety is important in racing no matter if you are racing for real or not. it's the line between life and death

I was shocked hearing this, especially as I did the same Race Experience day two years ago. Time that they review all the safety measures as I can imagine that when you are not an experienced real life driver you totally freak out when your car is on fire and you will not find a way to get out of the seatbelts.
After giving it some thoughts I can't recall that they had an extensive safety instruction how to get out of a vehicle. Can you remember that Martijn/Hans?

All i got was a helmet and was told to stay behind the car in front, after i managed to get myself into the small and narrow cockpit(i'm 1.95 m),went out and the car broke down on me in the first lap, grrr.

This made national new in New Zealand the other day - I guess being that Chris is a Kiwi

Very lucky guy......from other reports later it seems he only had a few broken bones after this shocking crash.

We also got treated to this one as well..

Hi,
I dont know how many of you know this excellent video review, but I am wondering if is here anyone who knows if is somewhere uploaded second part?

I know that it was deleted from youtube for copyrights, but maybe it is somewhere else. I am missing it so much as these two parts are making one of the best work I have ever seen (I never was so excited when I was watching F1 reviews)

So, let me know please :) thanks for any effort

PS: this one is good also

I know the person you made that video and he told me that FOM have deleted the second part and not only from him but from others that have copied his video and uploaded it once again. I could ask if he have uploaded on other sites such as Blip or Vimeo.

Given the reviews that are around the internet, motoring magazines, and tv shows you'd be forgiven for thinking that Ferrari's 458 is being labelled as the ultimate boys toy for for playboy millionaires but the guys at Lotus might have a little something to say about that.
LotusExos_Side585.jpg
In the past few days Lotus have announced their latest project known as Exos. Recent years have seen Ferrari operating a 'club' type system with their top cars staying home at the factory and owners being part of a club that get together at events to run their cars in controlled environments with all the help and support of Ferraris own mechanics, technicians and test drivers.

Lotus' Exos project takes this idea to a new level. The car which is based on current generation F1 technology features a detuned version of Cosworth's 3.5l GPV8 engine which produces 650bhp and will redline at 10,300rpm. Weighing in at 650kg, the same minimum weight of a race ready F1 car, the machine will offer well above 1000bhp per ton. Couple that with near F1 levels of grip and down-force and the owners of these vehicles are in for some fantastic track day action.

Unlike current F1 cars which are in need of a full stripdown and rebuild after a 300km race, the GPV8 should run for around 4,500km (2,800 miles) between rebuilds and will come with a built in starter motor so an entire team of engineers is required to get in running again when the engine stalls out on track. Standard F1 supplementaries will also be included such as semi-automatic transmission and carbon ceramic brake packs.
Lotus is planning on building just 25 of these cars and the $1,000,000 price tag will gain you entry to the Exos club. There initially 5 events planned for 2011 with ex and current Lotus drivers available to members for tuition and support. These events will take place on circuits throughout Europe.

News just through the paddock has provided me with some new information, this time Phil Glew last years Renault Clio GB champion is now going to be the first driver of the brand new Seat Leon NGTC with YourRacingCar.Com. Phil has missed the last few rounds and at Snetterton was very sad not to be out there in his old Vauxhal Vectra but new information through has ocnfirmed he will be driving a new breed of Seat Leon and will join Andy Jordan and Dave Pinkney in 2 Vectras as the 3rd NGTC car.

More information is to come but he is said to be thrilled to be driving again and to be picked to drive this new car. He is also said to be feeling lots of pressure on him as the first driver to ever run a different car other than a vectra with this engine in.

So if you are going to see the BTCC at Silverstone keep a eye out to how well Glew will make this car go!
