Today a driver crashed at Circuit Zandvoort, Holland, resulting in a huge fire. The driver did not survive the accident. The identity of the driver is still unknown at present with the only minimal details being released from the circuit. It is known that the accident took place during an open test session.
The strange and cruel timing of this event will spark memories for some of a previous incident, for today is exactly 37 years since the tragic death of Roger Williamson in a horrific crash at the 1973 Dutch Grand Prix When failure to control a fire ultimately resulted in the loss of his Life.
Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of the driver.

Sources close to Zanvoort believe the driver be be an amateur taking part in a racing school event.

In an eerie ressemblance to the death of Williamson all those years ago, it now appears that the driver in today's accident also suffered at the hands of fire. Reports are that the car suddenly caught fire during the session. The driver showed great awareness and was able to get the car off the circuit and onto the grass but was unable to release his seatbelts in time to escape. The car involved was a Formula Ford race car.
UPDATE 3:
The exact Identity of the driver is still unknown but it is believed to be a 51-year-old man from Jistrum. Circuit Director Erik Weijers confirmed that the driver was taking part in the 'Experience Day' and was not a professional race driver. Weijers also confirmed that as the incident was not related to the safety of the track but to do with the car that the circuits calendar of events will remain unchanged.
Events of this type are common at Circuit Zandvoort, with this particular event being run by the Bleekemolen families 'Race Planet' service.
