Paying money for mods? No way. I genuinely appreciate the work modders do for the community, but I'm not paying for this and that to the point where I've paid more for them than the base game itself. Modding is a hobby, not a job. Modding is something you do in your free time for fun and is definitely not something someone should be asking money for. If that's your goal then go ahead and make your own game. If I were a creator of a mod I wouldn't even want people to pay money for it. Paying money will scare people away from the great work you've done on it, and that's about the last thing you'd want. You'd want as much people to enjoy your work as possible. I'm sorry, but this just isn't the mindset to go with modding in the future.

no you dont, the pc can cost a lot but you dont HAVE to have a wheel or cockpit, a gamepad is perfectly addiquate for someone starting out in sims.

I have to admit, I stopped reading here. Playing rFactor2 with a gamepad? Are you serious? Then I read the rest of the post.

Unless of course you're in the sad act class who feel the need to dress up in helmet and race gloves to play a GAME. Also how old were you when you started sim racing? i know i was under the age where i had any income, which means unless the new kids to sim racing are spoilt rich brats then they arent gonna be able to afford this. Some peoples ignorance to money on these types of forums is laughable, to you it might be "only" $5 to someone else that is a lot on top of whatever they've already payed for the sim/ hardware

Racing Simulation 2 was my first simulation game, so I guess it must've been around 1998. So where did the money for my first wheel come from? Right, I worked for it - even tho I was only 14 back then.

I'm not ignorant when it comes to money (thanks to my family) but there are only 2 options when it comes to that mod:

1) buy it and enjoy it.
2) don't buy it and live with your decision.

There's no reason to try and make others feel bad just because they have the money and want to spend it on a mod. If you can't afford 5$ / 5€ for your hobby then you should worry about a lot more than not being able to play a certain mod.

If this is the direction with Rfactor then they should give the basic game for free and take some % from the mod sales.
You need mods to play rFactor and I hope there's enough free mods comming.

Don't relate a personal choice of a modder, to a buisnes concept of ISI (rfactor). It has nothing to do with each other.
As said before, there is still a lot of free content, which will always stay. This has nothing to do with the future of simracing. There are already so many games which have paid for content.
Only difference to those platforms is the fact that here you can CHOOSE to have paid content, or not. The game is still perfectly playable with even the default ISI content (which you also already purchased).

It's an addition, and that makes it up to you. As Tom perfectly said:

After all, what kind of DRM would they want to use? rFactor2 will still expect the usual mod files and there's no way to protect them from being spread around the internet anyway. I'm not promoting piracy but people will always find a way around paying for something.

Right, so I played it a bit yesterday and it didn't really feel planted to the street. Especially compared to the touring cars (especially the True2Life DTM 2008-2010 mod) in Race07. It's still in beta but there's a lot more work to do I guess. :)

Sorry but this post has been made in the wrong forum, so I've removed all links and closed the thread. Please upload your file and use the automatically created thread. This way it's easy for everyone to keep track of mods and enjoy them to their fullest.

Is it just me or is it really hard to control? Like it nonetheless, just asking. :)
IMO, It is not the most difficult car to drive in rFactor 2. 60's F1 or regional skip barber are the hardest...
With Lola T280, you can rely on its very big rear tires to stabilize the car... Brakes are not very good, as I can imagine on 1972 prototype cars..
It's my favourite car up to day :)

Paying for mods is a personal choice.
I really don't want to see it on a regular basis from modders unless they've decided to move forward and make it their day-to-day job.
That said, I have paid for mods. Good mods.
Remember Hudson Kerr's HD sky pack for rF and NKP? I bought all.
It was my way of saying thanks for all the 'free' work he'd put out previously.
I'll have to take a look at these guys to see if they've offered anything to the community before considering their mod. It also needs to stand out over everything else.
They'll be lots of great content for rF2 so nobody should feel obligated. At the end of the day, It'll be about choice.

Heartland Park Topeka is a multi-purpose motorsports facility located 5 miles (8 km) south of Topeka, Kansas.
When it opened in 1989, it was the first brand-new auto racing facility to be built in the United States for 20 years. Its facilities include a road-race course with 4 possible configurations (ranging from 1.8 miles (2.9 km) to 2.5 miles (4.0 km) in length), a ⅜ mile clay oval, off-road course and a ¼ mile drag strip. After several years of neglect, owing to continual financial difficulties, the track surface and other facilities had deteriorated badly and the very survival of the track was in doubt. In 2003, it was bought by Raymond Irwin, former owner (2007) of Blackhawk Farms Raceway, who has instituted a program of major renovations to the facility.
